~Shrek was once Farquad's lover.~

When Farquad was told he would be ripped of the tittle, ''King'', if he stayed with a ogre. Or any mythical creature. He was forced to let the love of his life go. It hurt him terribly to have his love let go but it was for good. Unable to see his lover tied up and thrown in a trailer to be sent away he kept his head down, when entering. Shrek tried to give Farquad everything to let him stay, even his body. But Farquad knew what he had to do. He had to let him go.

Farquad refused his many sexual offers and was getting annoyed by Shrek. So, he paid a witch in gingerbread men, to rip Shrek of his memories and put him to sleep. So she did. It pained him greatly to strip such a beautiful creature of his memories of Farquad. His soldiers were then told to take his ex-lover to a far away swamp, and to build him a humble home and make sure he had the things that he needed to live comfortably.

Shrek was placed in a dirty swamp far away from the castle, so far he wouldn't even be able to see it. When he awoke he was thrilled to see his new ogre home. There was everything he needed but little did he known his lover was many miles away in pain.
