Chapter 9 -Get All the Girls

"Alexander Lightwood! To what do I owe this pleasure?" Magnus teased, wanting to see his cheeks flesh red. They did. It was an almost cute picture. On his doorstep stood a killer, a strong and lethal man who was head of the Institute that sometimes even killed Downworlders, with bright red covering his face.

"I came to thank Dèlia," he spoke, his way of asking if he may be let in. He didn't want to show his gratitude outside, not only because he knew the cats were watching his every move, but it seemed an impolite thing to do. He wanted to be anything except that.

The warlock opened the door even further, making it possible for the shadowhunter to walk in. His crystal eyes searched for that remarkable woman who saved him, finding her walking out of the kitchen, a happy glance coming his way, more energetic than he had ever seen her.

He remained just a foot behind the now closed door, his nervous hands covered in his pockets so she wouldn't know they were shaking. He hadn't been nervous like this, not for any mission or anyone of his friends. It was as if jumping off a diving board, seeing how deep you'll fall, knowing you could drown if you had never been taught how to swim.

"Alec! Is something wrong?" she asked a bit worried. She didn't' see any other reason for him to search her and come for a visit. Her world had grown so terribly old she had forgotten why people visited her at all, if it wasn't for her help or advice.

"No, no. I- uhm," he fell over his own words, even though he had barely said something. His cheeks flushed a bit red again, the colour standing up from his pale skin and dark runes. His blue, perfect, always shining eyes searched for hers, but in order to get something, anything out of his mouth, he stared at his feet.

"I wanted to thank you for what you did earlier. You didn't have to save me, but you did. And I'm very thankful for it," he spoke openheartedly. He had asked his parabatai for help first, because for some reason he seemed to be able to get all the girlswhile Alec didn't do so well with the ladies.

He was trying to read her face, yet after centuries, no one was able to do so, except her best friends. She was able to fake an emotion if she wanted, though she rarely did so, which made her a very dangerous enemy. Because she could lead you on the wrong path for so long that you'd forgotten were you were even going.

"And I hope that you're doing better, now that Magnus is taking care of you," he continued, never leaving her out of his sight, which by now had shifted from the ground, to his feet, and eventually he was looking in her perfect, emerald eyes, which almost silenced them by her beauty.

He couldn't tell anyone why he had stayed by her side that day. He only knew that it felt like the right thing to do. And he had promised to always to the right thing. So here he was, frozen by her green orbs, unsure what to say except stutter another sentence. But he thought it was where he needed to be.

That's why he had come here. Not only did he want to check on her, because there was this feeling in his chest nagging at him to look how she was doing, but he also couldn't get her off his mind whenever he didn't have anything to worry about. And now that she'd been away for days, he thought it was okay for him to visit.

"I'm feeling fine, thanks for asking," she spoke with a genuine smile. Alec smiled back, already feeling happy by the sight of her smile, because it was everything he wanted to clear up his day. He had a busy morning in the Institute, after noon it was also always crowded and in the evening were the most of missions, which were yet to come, so to see her smile and look happy made him forget everything he'd worried about.

Magnus could feel he was unwanted. After a few centuries, he knew when people wanted to be alone just by one glare. He understood when lovers wanted to turn their back on the world and jump into the dark abyss they called love, and he respected it.

So therefor he left with his cocktail and favourite book to the balcony and closed the door behind him, to leave the two lovebirds a bit of space and time for Alec to finish his sentences without having to quit stuttering, because that was practically impossible.

"I would like to apologize on behalf of the shadowhunters of the New York Institute, because how you were treated was unforgiveable. However, I hope to see you again sometime, someday," he uttered, a bit unsure. His voice was unsteady, even though he had practised his speech with Jace beforehand.

For some reason, he wasn't the boy who could do anything with the snap of his fingers. He wasn't able to walk up to a female and get her number just by smiling or get her to go on a date with him because he's so sexy and mysterious. He didn't know why girls liked that.

Nonetheless, he had actually tried once. He borrowed one of Jace his leather jackets, trying to be the badass his brother was, failing and scaring other people to their death. Since then, he had given up on being cool and shady, just hoping that one day he'd find someone who would love him for the person he is.
