The Big Dumb Chicken

(This is sometime after the final exam but before the training camp)

Eimi's POV

I was skipping down the street after I just had some really good ramen at this new shop close to UA. I stopped at the crosswalk and waited for the lights to turn red so I could cross. There weren't any cars going the opposite way but it is always good to follow the rules, plus you could get hit if you weren't careful enough.

The lights turned red and the light telling me that I could walk turned on. I started across the street only to hear a scream.

"Look out!!"

I turned my head to the side to see a runway car driving towards me at high speeds. My eyes widened and I froze on the spot, not because I was necessarily scared, it's because I literally froze my feet to the ground.

"That's not what I meant to do!" I yelled and quickly used my fire to melt my ice that I stupidly formed over my feet. Just as the car was like 10 feet away from me, I successfully melted the ice and mentally patted myself on the back before I remembered what kind of situation I was in. I turned my head to look at the car which was now basically directly on me when I was suddenly in the air. I blinked a few times to make sure I wasn't hit and now hallucinating to find out I was really in the air.

"That was a close one." A male voice called out from above me. It was then when I realized that there was a pair of arms wrapped around my waist and my back was pushed up against someone. I looked up and my eyes widened at who I saw.

"Hawks?" I gawked while the said hero nodded his head as he flashed his signature smile. We continued to fly through the air until he found a rooftop to land on. He lightly put me down on the roof before letting go of my waist. I turned around to thank him but he started to fly away, saying something about having to get back to work.

I didn't want to just leave it there, and it was also good manners to say thanks, especially if someone saved your life. I ran to the edge of the railing and yelled out.

"Wait a second!" He didn't stop flying so I decided to yell out the nickname I had for him. "You dumb chicken!"

The man stopped in the air before turning around. I smiled in relief as he stopped. My hair flew in front of my face and blocked my vision. I moved my hands up to my face and when my hair was moved out of my eyes so I could see again, I almost fell back when I saw Hawks' face not even 4 inches from mine. Scratch that, I did fall back. I landed on my butt with a thud which caused me to yelp.

"Chickpea?"

I looked up once I heard the nickname that he gave me and smiled.

Keigo's POV

I looked down at the girl in front of me as she smiled in response to what I said. I sat down and folded my legs in a crisscross fashion before I put my chin in the palm of my hand.

"I don't know why I didn't realize it sooner." I breathed out as the girl sat up better. Even though it's been a long time since I've seen her in person, I wasn't expecting it to be her. I guess did see her at the sports festival, I even put her as one of the ones who I wanted to intern. Her face is the same as it was when she was a little girl, only she's bigger now.

"Huh?" Eimi questioned while tilting her head. I shook mine and looked at her eyes.

"I even chose you in the sports festival but I didn't think it was you." I explained.

"I don't blame you, a lot has happened since we last saw each other." She sighed while looking out with a melancholy look in her eyes.

"What's with that look? I've never seen those eyes before." I said as I remembered the bright eyes she had when she was young. There wasn't a day where she wasn't smiling.

"Sorry, it's just. The last time I saw you was also the last time I saw Toya-nii..." She trailed off and I saw some tears well up in her eyes.

I looked down at my feet in sorrow. I know I can't tell her where he is, but I can still give her some kind of hint.

"I bet wherever he is, he's doing something good." I sighed while looking up to the sky.

"You really think so?" Eimi called out to me and I nodded before smiling at her.

"Hey, remember the day we met?" I asked, remembering how small she was. Her eyes brightened up before she smiled widely and started to giggle.

"You were really stupid." She snickered which caused a pout to come to my face. I crossed my arms huffed.

~Flashback~

The two walked out of the hospital after visiting their mother. One was a small 6-year-old girl with a white bob hair cut while the other was a lean 17-year-old boy with mainly red hair, though some of it was fading into a white, the same as the little girls. The small girl grabbed her brother's hand and swung it back and forth.

"Nii-chan." She called out to her brother and waited for his response.

"Yeah, Eimi?" He replied. The girl smiled before continuing.

"We're going to the park today before you bring me home, right?" She asked with a hopeful voice. The elder nodded which caused the girl to yell out in joy. Those around them smiled at the two, a couple wishing that their children would be as close as them, and an older man smiling while remembering his relationship with his sister.

The two made their way across the street and to the park that was close to some shops and cafes. The girl's eyes lit up when she saw the slide and quickly ran over to the play structure. She climbed up the small rock wall and onto the platform before shimmying her way onto the top of the slide. She was about to go down before her eyes clouded over and tears started to well up in her eyes.

Her brother looked up at her sad expression and called out to her.

"Eimi, what wrong?"

The girl sniffled before rubbing her eyes a bit.

"I miss Suki. He used to go down the slide with me when we still played together." She cried and her brother sighed sadly. He knew that it was to keep her safe but he also knew how much sadness it brought the girl.

It was then he remembered that he asked one of his friends to meet up with him later which gave him an idea. He smiled quickly and looked up to his sister who was now pushing herself closer to the edge of the slide, the tears slowing down.

"Hey, Eimi! I've got a surprise for you later. Want to get ice cream while we wait?" The elder called out to his sister. The girl looked at him I'm surprised before sliding down the slide. She jumped off the ground and ran over to her brother.

"What kind of surprise??" She asked while jumping around his legs. The teen laughed before catching her mid-jump and pulling her in for a hug. Eimi gladly hugged him back before she sat up in his arms and looked at his face.

"How far is the ice cream from us?"

Toya pet her head before hoisting her up and over his head so she could sit on his shoulders. She quickly placed her hands on his head while the boy lightly grabbed her ankles to keep her steady.

"It's just in that shop over there." He said while pointing in the direction of the small shop. The girl patted his head as to hurry up to which he complied and started walking to their destination.

Once they got there he pulled his sister off his shoulders and placed her down on the floor. He quickly opened the door and watched as his sister ran through the doors, ignoring the cold air that was in the shop that kept all the ice cream nice and cool. Her quirk was half hot half cold after all. No neither of the temperatures really bothered her. The cold didn't really bother the boy either because he got his mother's constitution for the cold, so it was nice in the building.

He walked in to see his sister's face pushed up against the side of the glass, looking at all the different types of ice cream she could choose from. Her eyes darted back and forth before she grabbed her head in frustration.

"There's just so many to choose from! I can't decide!" She wailed which caused her brother to lightly ruffle her hair and the worker smiled.

"It's okay, just take your time. There's no rush." He calmed her down before looking through the glass to choose his own flavor.

It was about 5 minutes before the girl pulled on her brother's pant leg while looking up at him.

"Did you choose your flavour?" He asked and the girl nodded before pointing at the glass. He looked at where her finger was pointing and nodded.

"You want cotton candy?"

"Yeah! It looks so pretty, cause there's purple in it!" The girl exclaimed in joy.

"Okay, is there anything else you want or only cotton candy?"

"Just cotton candy is fine for me!"

The teen nodded before smiling at the worker behind the counter. They pulled some gloves on before speaking up.

"What can I get you guys today?" She asked sweetly and Toya smiled as well before ordering.

"I would like two scoops of rocky road and two scoops of cotton candy, both in waffle cones, please." He said and the worker nodded. She started by getting the waffle cones and scooping the cotton candy ice cream into the cone to give to the little girl. She handed the cone over the counter and down to the girl with a smile.

"Here you go!" She exclaimed before the little girl excitedly grabbed the cone from her hand. The worker quickly got the teen's order and handed it to him before ringing up the price.

"Tha would be 1200 yen." She said and the teen quickly pulled out his wallet and handed her the money. She quickly gave him back his change and said goodbye as the two walked out. The little girl happily licked her ice cream as the two of them started walking to an open green area. They both sat down and enjoyed their ice cream.

"Nii-chan?" The little girl asked as she looked up at her brother. The boy made a hum as to let her know he was listening so she continued to ask what she wanted to know.

"Who's that."

Toya looked at his sister's hand to see where it was pointing before spotting his friend.

"That's the surprise." He said before waving his friend over. The teen leaned over to his sister before quickly whispering something to her.

"His name is Keigo, but don't call him that. He needs to go by his code name, Hawks." He said with a finger to his lips which caused the girl to laugh and nod. She held out her pinkie and her brother nodded before connecting his with hers, signifying Eimi's promise to not say a word.

"Hey, Hawks." Toya called out to him as his friend arrived in front of them. Eimi then took this opportunity to get a good look at the other teen in front of her. He had dirty blonde hair, maybe even more to the brown side of dirty blonde, and pretty gold-brown eyes. Although the most noticeable feature of the boy was his big red wings attached to his back. They were so big that they almost reached the ground and were definitely taller than herself.

"Yo." was the first word Eimi heard him say. Just by that, the little girl thought he was already super cool. He was cool because he said 'yo', which her brother would always say when greeting people, and of course Toya was the coolest person she knew. Her eyes widened in amazement at the boy in front of her.

She quickly handed her ice cream to her brother and jumped up to move towards the other boy. He watched her come up to him and stare at his wings. The bird boy could tell that all she wanted to do was touch his feathers, so he lightly moved his wing towards her. The girl's eyes widen even more so and she reached out to touch them. Her fingers pet the feathers and she smiled.

"They're really soft!" She gushed before stepping closer so she pet more of them. The boy looked at the girl before looking back at his friend who was holding two cones of ice cream, one of which was almost done and the other which was melting under the sun's rays.

"You better hurry up and eat your ice cream or it's gonna melt." Keigo called out to the girl and caught her attention. She looked up at him before looking back at her brother who was holding her ice cream out to her. She quickly ran over to it before grabbing it with her left hand. Toya knew what she was going to do, but Keigo did not.

It was a matter of seconds before the ice cream was frozen in a little box of ice and place gently on the ground. Keigo then watched as the girl ran back over to him to continue petting his wings.

"She got your mom's quirk?" He asked which the other boy nodded.

"Yeah, but that's not all." He said before calling out to his sister.

"Hey, Eimi. Could you freeze my ice cream a bit?"

The girl quickly nodded and ran over to her brother and held his ice cream before freezing it for a second. She then quickly unfroze it which left it in its state that it would be in at the shop.

"Thank you." Toya thanked her and she went back to Keigo's wings.

"Mother and father's?" He questioned again which Toya nodded to. The boy then decided to surprise the little girl by scooping her up in his wing and bringing her over to where her brother was sitting before sitting down himself.

"Do you like flying?" The girl asked and the boy smiled.

"Of course! The wind feels so good on my face." The bird boy exclaimed which caused the girl to marvel at him. She continued to pet his feathers while quietly mumbling.

"I wish I could fly."

Keigo then looked to Toya for confirmation. He nodded and Keigo stood up suddenly which caught the girl by surprise.

"Then why don't we?"

"Really?!" The girl gasped while jumping up as well. Keigo nodded and some of his feathers flew out from his wings. The girl watched in awe as they flew around her. The feathers then went under her arms and legs and lifted her small body off the ground. She started giggling as she was slowly flying around her brother and his friend.

It was after a little bit and Keigo put her down for a rest. It wasn't that he was tired, but he decided that maybe the girl should take a break because she's never flown before. They all sat down and Eimi decided to unmelt her ice cream and finish eating it. As she was licking the treat, her newfound friend was talking to her brother.

She wanted to be included so she stood up before slightly waddling in between them and sitting down. Keigo really wanted her to like him, so he covered her in his wing, something he knew that she liked. He never had younger siblings and he couldn't help but remember what life was like as a child so he wanted to make sure Eimi was enjoying hers. He's heard lots of stories about the girl and already thought of her as a sister before they even met, and now that they have met, the feeling was much stronger.

By the time the two boys finished their conversation about the latest new craze, the girl was finished with her ice cream. She quite liked the dark enclosure that was around her, though she couldn't help but get sleepy due to the darker area. Eimi tried her best to keep her eyes open but the warmth coming from the winged-teen was pushing her to close her eyes. In a matter of seconds, the girl's eyes were shut and she was snuggling closer to the warm body beside her.

The bird boy froze when he felt the girl beside which caused his friend to look at him weirdly.

"You good?" Toya asked, his eyebrows furrowed. Keigo lightly lifted his wing to reveal the sleeping girl. Her arms were loosely hugging Keigo's waist while her face was pushed into his side. Toya sighed before reaching out to brush her hair with his fingers.

"Guess she got tired after all that excitement."

"What are we supposed to do? I don't know how to child." The blonde started to freak out. Toya held a hand up to stop him while he lightly snickered.

"We just gotta bring her home, relax."

"O-oh."

Toya was going to pick Eimi off of his friend but Keigo stopped him.

"I'll carry her, that way she can still stay like this."

Toya then watched as Keigo's wing wrapped around his sister and some other feathers came to keep her steady as she still held onto him in her sleep. The boys then stood up and made their way out of the park. It didn't take long to make it to the girl's house and Toya knocked before opening the door. The two walked into the house and took off their shoes before they heard some footsteps coming towards them. Toya looked up to see his cousin, Dokami, he was about 10 years old.

"Oh, hey. Eimi fell asleep so we're bringing her back earlier than I said I would."

"Okay, make sure to take her shoes off first. I'm just helping Gran with lunch."

The teens nodded at the boy before walking up the stairs to the girl's room. Toya opened the door and the boys walked in. Keigo unwrapped his wing from Eimi and placed her in her bed via his feathers while Toya took her shoes off. Keigo took the chance to look around the room and his eyes soon landed on a purple-ish candle.

"Ooh, a candle!" He quietly exclaimed before walking over to it. Toya looked over to see him opening the lid before taking a deep sniff of the candle. He reached his hand out to warn him but it was too late.

"I wouldn't do that if I--"

The smell was so strong and unexpected that the blonde almost fell back before he sneezed dramatically.

"--were you."

The teen watched as his friend's sneeze went above and beyond a normal sneeze. His feathers all shot out of his back and off his wings, flying towards the walls of the girl's room. The noise quickly woke up the small girl and she sat up. She looked all around her room to see it littered in crimson feathers. They were in the walls, her dresser, her doors, and desk. Her eyes trailed over to the now featherless bird boy who was crouched over and sniffling.

He looked absolutely miserable.

"Wha?" She started before her brother cut her off.

"The candle."

The girl then looked into the hands of the blonde before giggling. She made that candle with her brother and cousin but it went horribly wrong. They don't know where they went wrong but everything about that candle was too strong. They put in the recommended amount of lavender oil, though it came out very potent and no one knew why.

Keigo returned his feathers after he calmed down and looked at what damage he caused.

"I'm sorry about that." He said while rubbing the back of his head.

"You're fixing it, you dumb chicken." Toya sighed before rubbing his hand over a hole in the wall beside him. The blonde sighed and flopped on the floor, his wings sprawled out and taking up most of the open floor. Eimi crawled off her bed and onto the bird boy.

"You're a dumb chicken! Dumb chicken!" She laughed in his face which caused him to frown.

"Great going, Toya. Now she's gonna call me your dumb nickname, too."

The girl started to giggle uncontrollably when the blond had an idea. He pulled her in towards his chest in a tight hug and folded his wings around her.

"I'm gonna call you Chickpea, cause you're so tiny and cute!"

Everyone in the room laughed before starting to clean up the room.

~Flashback end~

Eimi's POV

"You know, I think I still have that candle somewhere." I mumbled when Keigo looked at me in fright.

"Horrible candle."

I laughed before standing up. I held my hand towards him to help him up and he grabbed my hand. I pulled him up and he towered over me. I looked up at him and pouted.

"How come you're like the same height difference as you were back then."

"Why would I know?" He shrugged before looking out over the city. He turned back to me with a smile.

"Need a ride home?" He offered and I smiled.

"Yes!" I exclaimed before jumping at him. He caught me and quickly flew up into the air. He flew me home and dropped me off in the front yard. I waved up at him before he dropped a piece of paper in my hands.

"So we can keep in contact!" He yelled from his spot in the air. "I've missed my little sister thing."

And with that, he flew away. I looked at the paper to see his number on it and I quickly put it into my phone and saved his contact as Dumb Chicken.

"Was that Hawks?"

I looked over to see Katsuki standing behind me.

"Yep!"

"The fuck." He gasped and I laughed.
