FAQ
Please Read Carefully! Applying to the club means you've read and understood this.
Who can join?
1. You must be 18 or older to join.
2. Non-native speakers of English MUST have very good English (C-level / near native) to join. Those with intermediate school English looking for native-speaker editing are in the wrong place.
What stories are appropriate for Shorts?
1. All genres (except poetry) up to 4k words maximum are acceptable. We welcome R-rated stories, but not X.
2. Fan fic is allowed as long as the story assumes NO knowledge of the world or characters. (Yes, this even applies to well-known worlds like Harry Potter!)
3. Individual chapters in novels are not accepted as short stories.
How does Shorts work?
1. Club membership is on a month-by-month basis. You can sit out or participate as you choose.
2. You will be assigned 1 story to read and comment on per week that is in the same word count category as the one you submitted, providing there are enough members participating that month to make word-count categories.
You will get your assigned stories PMed to you at the start of the month. You can do the reading week by week, or work ahead according to your schedule.
4. There is a template for leaving comments on stories. You will be expected to follow it exactly. (See "Comment Template") This is to avoid hurt feelings or arguments when personal styles clash.
5. Once you have finished reading and commenting on a story, you will be asked to say "done" in an in-line comment on the Pairs of Shorts page next to the story. This will allow both you and us to see which stories you've already read and allow us to send out reminders.
How do I join?
Fill out the submission form on the next page and wait for your application to be accepted.
By applying, you agree to reading & commenting your assigned stories, as well as following the comment template.
