Coffee haze

The warm liquid swirled around the cardboard cup slightly burning my fingers as I cupped it. It was well worth it for the creamy oat coffee that warmed me up a little. Autumn was always so cold and rainy.

I looked forward to this everyday at at 4pm. There was something different about today something just didn't seem right.

Maybe I would catch the cute blonde today if I waited long enough. My lips danced into a large smile as I thought about her cute dimples, followed by a pang of pain from my chest.

My heart started to beat faster as I thought about talking to her. Maybe today I would finally build up the courage to talk to her.

I sat on small table in-front of the small coffee shack and watched the people passing by in the park. I searched for her smile in the sea of people.

My phone buzzed in my pocket loudly as I worked up the courage in my head to talk to her. I had reached the bottom of my coffee cup as my shoulders shrugged over in disappointment . I needed more.

There she was. She looked tired today, she wasn't smiling. We had smiled to each other a few times catching each others eye, but nothing more.

I screwed my cup up as I thought about maybe ordering another lost in my thoughts. My phone buzzed again and again in my pocket like it was possessed by something.

I pulled it out and slammed it on the table muttering to myself.
I had 20 messages all from my best friend and 5 missed calls.

J - They are coming. Come home!

What? I went to read the next message but I was stopped by a large paper cup being handed to me.

"Oat latte isn't it?"  My head shot up to see the blonde girl smiling at me and holding out the drink.

"Yes! Coconut latte isn't it? Nice to meet you"  she let out a laugh and It seemed contagious.
"Please sit" I pointed over at the small chair.

She sat down and her eyes met mine.
"I think it might rain" she looked up and nodded
"Well we do live in England so the chances are pretty good"
"Thank you again for the coffee"

My phone buzzed again and then I noticed her watching me, her expression looked concerned.
" Im sorry, my phone has been going mental the last 15 minutes or so"

"Answer it if you want to it might be important"

The coffee shack behind us went deadly silent as the machines stopped in their tracks. Our phones went dead.
Everything went dead.

The sky darkened like nothing I had ever seen, even in movies.
Everybody stopped what they were doing and looked up to the sky. Something was coming toward us.

Something colossal.

She wasn't looking up. She was looking at me.

"It's begun"
The heavens opened, it wasn't rain.

It was the colour of blood.
