1. Writer's Block
OoOoOkay, I honestly don't know how to approach this at all. The description of this book is a mess, the cover is a SpongeBob meme, and I don't even know how to start this chapter. So there's nothing better than to jump right into it with no context! Woo!
The room was dark, nothing but the silhouette of trees out of the window and the man at the computer were to be seen. The trees moved wildly in the wind, the occasional sound of a branch scraping the glass was heard. The man didn't mind. In fact, he wished for more environmental sounds to happen so he could think of something else to add to his horror novel. The man sat there at the computer frustrated with himself for not being able to come up with an idea. He just needed one more frightening detail to add to describe the mansion his two main characters were about to enter.
He then began to type out a sentence. The idea was childish but he had nothing else to go off of at the moment. As he read the paragraph over he groaned in frustration. "No no no, there can't be a cat there. Black cats aren't scary." He muttered to himself. The man straightened his posture and stared intensely at the screen. He began to type another thing. This time with more confidence. Finally! Something to complete the scene. "... ugh skeletons are just too predictable..." And the skeletons were deleted.
The man sat in his chair decided to stop staring at the screen like it would give him the answers. He glanced out the window and watched the trees move with the wind. The way the branches moved up, down, side to side. Whenever the trees hit the glass, the man never flinched. He only watched closer looking at the details of the trees' movements. The leaves' movements, hell, even the grass and bushes if he tilted his head up enough. He watched the leaves float up and up until they came crashing back down to the earth. He watched as they went back up only to repeat the cycle. And then it hit him, the idea he needed all these hours. He immediately started typing, desperate to get this down before he forgets. "Yes! Finally! This is just what I needed for the end. The fe
"HIT IT FERGIE!" Jason, screamed and fell out of his chair to the sound of his ringtone blaring. "All the time I turn around brothas gather round always looking at me up and down looking at my (uh)-" He slapped his hand on the desk to feel around for his phone. He grabbed his phone from the floor and answered the call.
"Hello?!" He said exasperated. He was in the middle of finishing a chapter for his new novel, of course he'd be annoyed.
"Eyyy Jason! Knew you'd be up." The familiar British voice of his friend Carlos on the other end.
"Carlos, what the fuck are you doing calling me at 2AM?" Jason asked, gaining his composure and slowly sitting up, his black hair falling in front of his eyes. "You scared the everliving shit out of me!"
"My bad, my bad. Okay look, look I need your help." Jason sighed and sat back in his chair, saving his document before anything else could happen. He ran a hand through his hair to push it back again as he listened to his frantic friend.
"What's so important that you had to interrupt my flow like this?"
"I need writing ideas. The people on AO3 need me and I can't think of anything!" Carlos exclaimed. Such passion going with those words would've been strange to Jason if he wasn't a writer.
"You called me at 2AM... for prompts?" Jason raised his eyebrow and scoffed. "Dude you do know you can use the internet for that shit right?"
"Well, yes, but at the same time no. Look I trust you more than the internet."
"Uh huh..."
"These are desperate times Jay! Give me something!"
"Flowe-"
"I swear to the skies if you were about to say flower shop AU I will come over there and break your spine." Carlos said rather seriously. Jason could only laugh at his joke. Ahh flower shop AUs... priceless.
"If you're writing a oneshot just go with something cute. Y'know some Person A cuddling Person B." Jason suggested, knowing full well that his friend was writing fanfics.
"Oh c'mon, give me something more than that! I've got writers block, I need something to free the flow!" Jason rolled his eyes. He could hear Carlos pacing the room he was in by the sound of slippers on the wooden floor. He guessed that his dear friend was stressed because of a missed deadline. He knows Carlos takes any deadline serious... even AO3.
"You could spice it up? Put them on a beach." Jason put Carlos on speaker and walked to the kitchen. Since he's up might as well go make some coffee.
"With other people around? You know how obnoxious that is on a beach?" Carlos whipped around in his room, running a hand through his short brown hair.
"Dude, let the couple have some fun. Beach in the evening... and wait for it," Jason paused for dramatic effect and opened his cupboards. "A hammock." He set his phone down on the counter so he could use both hands for his coffee.
"You bloody genius. No wonder you're so good at this." Carlos joked sarcastically as he flopped onto his bed. "Alright, give me more."
"What more do you want from that? I think it's pretty straightforward." Jason rolled his eyes and grabbed his coffee mug. "Here, how about it starts off with Person A being exhausted from work. You decide the place." He placed the mug in the lil' cup holder place in the coffee machine.
"Oh ohhh I see where you're going with this." Carlos sat up straight, looking out his window with a smile. "Then B takes them on a beach date to relax them."
"There we go! You're getting it! Maybe add some grumpy A during the date cause all they can think of is work." Jason took the coffee packet and put it in the maker.
"B notices the hammock and-"
"Hammock cuddles!" The two men said together. Jason laughed and shook his head.
"This is why you're the perfect person for this stuff, Jay!" Carlos said cheerfully. "You have cleared the path for the creative flow."
"Any time, Los... Can I have my coffee now?" Jason asked teasingly.
"Yes! Yes! I have to write this before I get stuck again. Thank you!" Before Jason could respond, Carlos had hung up. Jason chuckled to himself and turned back to his coffee. It wasn't quite done yet so he went to put the washed dishes away.
Meanwhile, Carlos was ecstatic. He grabbed his laptop, excited about the new prompt his amazing friend had gave him. He ran to the living room and jumped onto the couch. He put the computer on the table in front of the couch and began typing away. He typed fast as he could, thinking about what if the weather changes? Maybe the hammock breaks while A is asleep? Would they both fall asleep there together? Maybe someone stumbles across them on accident? The possibilities were thrilling to Carlos as he smiled at his screen and typed.
Jason had put the last of the dishes away as the coffee had done brewing. He put his phone in his pocket and poured the dark liquid into the mug. Taking a deep breath of the lovely aroma he sighed and relaxed. "Sometimes taking a break from writing is good." He thought as he set the mug down to cool off while he cleaned up the coffee maker. When finished, he grabbed his mug and headed over to the living room.
Jason looked at Carlos typing away, excitedly, with speedy fingers. He chuckled to himself and decided it was better not to disturb his friend while he was in the zone. He turned on the lamp behind the couch and sat down beside Carlos. He grabbed one of the books lying on the living room table and leaned into the arm of the soft couch. The two of them sat there for a while, silently enjoying the others' company.
Jason looked up from his book just for a moment to catch Carlos smiling at him. He raised his eyebrow and lightly nudged Carlos with his foot. "You still didn't have to call me." They both laughed then continued to read and write for the rest of the night.
After all these years and I still don't know how to end a story. From this experience I have realized a lot of things. 1) I use the word and a lot so I guess I'll work on that. 2) I'm so inconsistent in my plots I suuck💀💀 I'll work on that too.
Okay I hope that was good? I think it was mediocre? I had fun writing the banter part. I also didn't read this over because I'm so tired, I've just been screwing myself over with my sleep "schedule".
And no disrespect to flower shop AUs I just find it funny because everyone uses it and it's still good.
Goodnight, guys!
