1. DON'T GET INVOLVED ON A WHIM: this often leads to people giving up, jeopardising our work, which is no mean feat.
This includes reading every detail of the contest carefully.
Don't hesitate to tell us what you understand or don't understand, to avoid any misunderstanding.
2. BE RESPECTFUL: of the judges' work, of the spectators' readings, of the feedback from other writers and of the Organising Team itself.
In short, be civilised.
3. BE ACTIVE: The organising team is a human team and we want to include you as much as possible in the life of the contest. We also need to make sure that we're not organising for ghosts. That's why it's also your duty to keep us informed of your progress in writing your short story, to help us with any unplanned events and to respond to our announcements as often as possible.
(We won't bite you if you don't have the time sometimes).
A lively contest is only possible if both sides give it their all: our part of the contract is fulfilled.
4. STICK TO THE DATES: we're offering you plenty of time to write, so it's up to you to organise your participation.
The dates are not there for decoration, and they will be respected with or without you.
5. PLAY THE GAME: once again, we're offering you a unique opportunity to go beyond your limits and create a story that's out of the ordinary.
Please respect the themes and constraints, because they're not there for nothing - they're the very essence of this contest.
Otherwise, don't take part.
6. DO NOT BE HYPOCRITICAL: in the context of the Mutual Assistance Bonus.
Honesty must prevail, with a hint of benevolence.
7. DON'T GLORIFY TERRIBLE CRUELTIES: such as rape, harassment, racism, homophobia... Talking about them is OK.
Romanticising them is not.
8. PLAGIARISM IS PROHIBITED: unbelievable but true.
9. BE CONSCIOUS: of your impact on the contest.
The organising team is aware that if they abandon the contest in the middle of an edition, people will have worked for nothing.
The writers are aware that if they abandon the contest in the middle of an edition, people will have worked for nothing.
It works both ways.
Thank you.
10. TAKE YOUR RESPONSIBILITY: this is similar to the point above. If you encounter a problem, it is imperative to contact us so we can work together to find solutions.
Don't wait until the last moment to do so.
Consider that not giving any news is a criminal offence and that disappearing without a valid reason and without coming to apologise is a crime.
We all have a life and when we are warned, we are generally tolerant.
♦︎
Any failure to comply with these rules - some of them for no good reason - may result in a penalty ranging from a temporary exclusion to a lifetime ban.
It's worth pointing out that you can be absent just like any other human being. But don't forget your real commitment to this contest.
