UNDEFINED L O V E
They say sometimes you need to be selfish to protect your own life. But what if you have to step out of your safe zone to save someone's life? Is it possible for you?
Happy reading...
"Safiya, where are you?"
"Yaar! I'm on my way to university, Haider. But the cab has been stuck in a traffic jam for half an hour. There's been an accident. A biker was hit by a car badly, and the car driver is trying to clear the road to get out of there, but nobody is ready to let him go. I'm getting really frustrated with the people here. They should be helping him get to the hospital right away, but instead, they are attacking him with their nonsensical speeches," Safiya said angrily, pinching her nails through her scarf as she tried to take a peek at the situation from her cab.
She could see the person from her place. He was six feet tall and muscular, looking like a decent man the way he immediately ran out of his car to help. Richness oozed from his posture, but there was also a positive vibe within him.
"PLEASE LET ME GET HIM INTO MY CAR FIRST, THEN I WILL REPORT MYSELF. HE NEEDS TREATMENT IMMEDIATELY." The man yelled helplessly. His voice was filled with concern and anger.
"Look at him! First he hits him with his car, and now he's acting like we are the culprits trying to stop him. He should have cared about his life before hitting him like that," a young man shouted from the crowd.
"Try to understand the situation... he is bleeding heavily. My phone is broken, at least give a call to the ambulance right now," the man ordered in a serious tone this time.
"Watch your attitude, young man. This is no good for you," another man said.
"Okay! This is getting out of control now. I need to do something, Haider," Safiya gritted her teeth in anger.
"No yaar! Stay calm where you are right now. Just text me the exact address so I can call an ambulance," Haider advised, worried for his best friend. He didn't want any trouble to reach her, as he was well aware of her anger when it came to injustice.
"Okay! I am texting you right now!" She started typing immediately while peeking at the person, who had now somehow settled the injured young man in his car by himself. His white rich shirt was drenched in red, and his forehead creased in agony.
"Ma'am! Why are you getting yourself and your friend involved in this accident? The police won't leave you with your complaint; they will keep calling until he wakes up. What if something happens to him?" the cab driver advised.
"Exactly! What if something happens to him? What about his family? Whether it's his fault or not is a later matter. What’s important right now is his life. What if it were your own son or any relative lying in that bloody puddle? Would you also leave him like that on the road without helping?" Safiya seethed, and the driver lowered his head in shame. She settled the cab charge immediately and got out.
She fixed her scarf properly before marching towards the incident, pushing away the gathered vehicles around them.
"Excuse me. You can sit with him in the backseat. I will drive the car if you don't mind," she asked as soon as she reached the car handle, startling him.
He turned around and looked down at her; she was small compared to his height.
"Do you have a driving license?" he asked the first question when he saw her opening the driver’s seat door.
"Yes, I have one, and I will drive safely and fast. Trust me. We don’t have time or can't possibly wait for an ambulance to get through this traffic jam," she replied hurriedly, looking up at him.
"Thank you," was all he said, overwhelmed by the situation at hand.
Pulling the car forward carefully, she started it without delaying a moment and asked the man to keep the injured person awake until they reached the nearest hospital.
"Okay!" he replied softly yet in a startled tone.
AT THE HOSPITAL
"YAAR! Safiyaaa..." Haider shouted when he spotted her outside the OT room, sitting alone with her head hunched in her lap.
"Haider! Thank God you’re here. Please help me with the situation. The nurse handed me a purse, mobile, his watch, and a ring. I don’t know what to do with them right now. My hands are shaking seeing him all bloody, getting operated on that white bed. Haiderrr..."
"It's okay, calm down, Safii," he gathered the crying girl in his arms and circled his arms around her protectively yet respectfully. He had never seen her like this before; her red teary eyes terrified him.
"Don't be scared. Nothing will happen to him. I will handle everything. Just don't cry, please..." he patted her head and covered her slipped scarf around her shoulders.
"Where is the actual person?" he asked her slowly while trying to calm her down.
"He is dealing with the hospital authorities and making some calls to whoever, I don’t know," she held onto his arm tightly.
"Okay! Nothing to worry about. I will go talk with him and also contact his family through his phone," Haider told her, making her sit on a nearby chair. He got her water and made sure she drank it.
