Part 8

----------Xaez----------

I watched as Mine Own left the cave quickly, gleeful that she was allowed outside on her own since becoming one of us, and as soon as she'd left the cave The Queen turned to me.

I know that you want to follow after her, and I will allow you to shortly with a team of course. I nodded, that was reasonable: If Mine Own had gotten injured attacking a human base then it would take more than one of us to fully defend her. Though first I want to ask what you think of her.

I tilted my head in thought at that: there were several times in the past where I'd only viewed Mine Own as just another mere weak human that had saved me from dying many times at the hands of other humans, and while there were times when I thought of killing her when she ultimately looked like she was going to betray me I couldn't. I didn't know why, and the only reason I could think of is that whatever this 'Fated' thing was The Queen had spoke of was the reason why.

Maybe it was also the reason why I couldn't help but kill anyone she'd gotten close to in our adventures avoiding humans and others of my kind alike...probably.

At first I can agree that I saw her as nothing more than a burden that was necessary to keep around, but now... I looked up at The Queen, looking at her directly to prove my point, Now I am willing to die for her, to sacrifice everything and fight no matter how futile so long as it has a chance of keeping her safe.

The Queen seemed to stare into my for a moment, a moment that I'd thought would end with me losing my head for daring look at a Queen directly, but she just nodded and tapped my head with her dangerous tail. Good. If you'd said anything else I'd have killed you here and now and pretended that you'd have gone out on another assignment to hide it from my heir. It does not matter if you are 'Fated' to me, so long as you are willing to give your life for the next Queen unconditionally I am satisfied.

I'd unknowingly dodged death once again, and the thought that she'd have killed me then and there and lied to Mine Own about it until she herself succumbed was a terrifying thought. Now you may leave. The other two you'd been partnered with earlier will join you; all of you have explicit instructions to only observe, stepping in when deemed absolutely necessary.

I nodded my agreement, knowing that she wouldn't see it and wouldn't care, and stepped backwards out of her area of authority before turning and sprinting out of the chamber. The Stalker and the Heavy Smasher species were both at the entrance waiting and without a word the three of us trailed after Mine Own and watched as she sneaked her way into the base.

There was a point when I thought we'd be the ones that blew whatever plan Mine Own had, due to the lights the humans kept on swinging about to look over the "Human base" area, but they always stopped just before us or we were able to quickly hide under or behind something as to not be noticed.

There was also a time when Mine Own had came running out of the area with a human in one claw, but seemingly still alive as it tried to pry themselves from her grip, and as much as I wanted to go over and see what she planned to do with that one I stayed my ground and waited as she came back not a little while after and snuck in a different, but still just as effective way into the base.

Mine Own was destined to do this. That I as sure of now after seeing how she moved, planned, and executed her way through the base. Hiding and even eating the occasional human as to not leave behind evidence: eating their weapons as well somehow and seemingly enjoying that part the most. She then snuck into one of the buildings near the edge of the base and was in there for quite a while, so long in fact that me and the other two were about to outright storm into the human's congregation to see what was wrong.

She came out of the building just as we were about to move in and the three of us had to scramble for hiding spots as the lights came around for another pass: she looked sadder this time, less observant now after whatever it was she did in the building, and she was noticed. A pair of human soldiers, a female and a male by the looks of them, came around the corner of the building...most likely on a patrol and after they yelled their word for us, "XENO in Base!!", they started shooting at her.

Mine Own didn't even seem to notice their weaponry sparking against her body. Weapons of which lesser versions have been able to take down a Praetorian, she just viewed as mere annoyances. As by her tail coming around and cutting the weapons in half, Cutting through the male soldier's arm in the process and the female had to drag him away screaming in pain as the base started to swarm towards Mine Own.

She walked a quarter of the way across the base, repeating this instance with more and more soldiers until another one of their box-like metal machines blasted in her direction. Mine Own's body was partially hidden by the gigantic explosion of its' weaponry hitting her armor and that seemed to shake her from whatever it was that took hold of her mind. Mine Own stopped walking as the smoke cleared, looked at one of her hands for a short time, seemingly just watching how it worked and moved with her will, and then she set it back down, shook herself off and faced the metal contraption as it fired at her again.

Another two of them were slowly coming over to no doubt aid the first one, but neither got there in time as the first one suddenly exploded in a giant cloud of fire and metal, and a shockwave reduced the surrounding buildings to dust before the sound reached us. The large boom was truly mind fogging, to realize that not only is Mine Own powerful enough to do this, but also powerful enough to make a Queen and her Praetorians shake in fear at the very sight of her.

There were another series of booms and subsequent explosions as the other two metal boxes exploded and the area surrounding Mine Own turned into a mixture of blackened ash and a crater of dust and cracked ground spreading in an outwards direction originating from where she stood. I could only watch in awe along with my brothers as her head turned to the side, giving us a clear view of that structure on her own: what was once only one long barrel protruding from her head was now three barrels that seemed to turn with every time one fired. Allowing Mine Own to fire a shot, and then another, then another, repetitively one after the other without pause unlike before.

It was a sight that couldn't be likened to any of the damage me and my brothers could do alone, and I could tell that they were thinking the same as I: This is the superior evolution of our race, we, as inferior beings, must protect this new evolution with every ounce of our being so that our species might progress faster in our collective pursuit of Universal Unification. Mine Own was destined for a greatness most of us would never live to see; those that did would worship her as a god, a deity originating from the millions of millions and more our their own kind that sacrificed for her creation.

I watched as she turned the entire area to nothing but red mist, fire, and fragmented rock and earth. It took her what was probably five minutes of standing in one spot to completely destroy a human area of occupation, something that would have taken me and my brothers and sisters of kind several tens of minutes to do. Not to mention sniffing out the lone escapees to make sure no word got out of what had happened and even then we still failed plenty.

Surprisingly, throughout all of that, Mind Own had managed to avoid destroying that one building she'd been in for longer than comfortably observed. It was still standing, though barely it seemed. The metal parts of its structure were severely dented and some parts even buckled under the weight of the earth packed in between the layers, and the parts that weren't metal were extremely cracked and looked rest to completely disintigrate at the slightest breath.

Mine Own looked at that lone building for a moment, and then she looked up at the surrounding area of the base until she saw the three of us. She nodded in our direction as a motion we could come over, and after a moment of caution towards whatever mood she seemed to be in, the three of us got close enough to be within speaking range of her.

I need one of you to go in that building and deal with its occupants, she kept her perception on the ground for some reason and didn't make a glance towards us or the building even once, I--I can't do it...one of the humans in there is someone I knew as a human, and they were related to me, but when I--when I went to try to talk to him. Explain to him what happened and who I was, he couldn't stop screaming and throwing things at me. I can't get his cries of help out of my head.

I went over and nuzzled her head like I used to when I was smaller, and thankfully that seemed to help her mournful mood sightly and the feelings I sensed through the bond eased up and turned into that of gratitude. He--he called me "A Monster." He wouldn't even let me try to communicate, all he say was "One of the Monsters is here" and "To leave him alone."  I couldn't find a reason he was wrong, I am a monster. I've killed all these people because I was angry at my brother, but he isn't my brother anymore because I'm not human. If I'm not human then does that make me a monster?

I directed the other two to go to the building and deal with the humans while I stayed to comfort Mine Own: they moved without a word and I watched them enter the building silently and moved to get her attention before any noise started. I went around to her front and put my head against hers, So what if you're a monster now. You and I are the same, now more than ever, and I vowed to always protect you no matter what.

The screaming started and the sounds of that and their human weapons threatened Mine Own's attention away from me, but I kept her mind off of it by blocking the side she was turning in with a hug of sorts. Heads next to each other, in hopes my attention will distract her long enough. You weren't happy as a Human. Even I could tell from the day I met you, so weak and frail in that body, barely able to speak and defend yourself. But now look at you, you're able to eat their feeble weaponry and walk around uninhibited from even the strongest of their weapons! Not even I'd be able to do the things you were able to do from the moment you became one of us, and I can tell you this.

I sat back as she looked at herself, the long threatening barrels in the center of her head were terrifying when pointed towards me, even if not active at the moment. Don't worry about what those useless creatures of flesh say about you. You are now one of us, I am yours and you are mine, we are destined to explore the world together, conquer and see this vast planet and many many others along the way. Until the day you grow old and retire I will be at your side.

Thankfully this seemed to be the turning point for her; Mine Own looked at me with the glimmer of guilt and sadness slowly fading away through the bond, and just as the screams finally died down too. You--Your right. She nodded, stepping forwards and nuzzling me again wholeheartedly agreeing now, I'm strong now. Now you don't need to protect me all of the time and instead I can be the one that protects you. We'll travel the world together and hopefully when The Queen deems me ready I'll be able to lead a Hive alongside you and we can go explore Space even!

The other two came back slightly injured: the heavy one was limping slightly, and the Stalker was holding their front arm, it was bleeding heavily and Mine Own noticed immediately. She gushed about them being hurt and asked if there was anything she could do, to which she got a reluctantly negative response, and the four of us slowly made our way back to the Hive.

As we passed by the structure I figured it wouldn't hurt to peek my head in for a little, just to see how effective everything went and maybe see if I could get something to make her happy from this experience. Climbing through the window, uncaring of the vast amounts of carnage seen within I looked among the ripped apart bodies, making sure they each were well and truly dead and when I got to the small male I noticed he was carrying something odd. It was one of their smaller loud metal weapons, but it had a shiny glint to it like the sun at high noon.

That was the perfect gift for Mine Own!

I pried it from the small humans dead grasp, their expression forever frozen in a state of shocked pain, and left the building. It didn't take me long to reach the group as the other two had been successfully distracting Mine Own throughout so she wouldn't notice my absence and when I reached them I playfully nipped her on the tail. Careful to avoid the part that makes the loud noise and careful to not bite too hard as to hurt myself.

I jumped back as Mine Own whirled on me in surprise and when she saw it was me she apologized and bowed her head to touch mine. Sorry Xaez, I hadn't noticed you'd left...what's that? I held up the sun-colored shiny weapon and motioned towards her.

A gift, I grinned at her like every time before, Just a little something to remember this moment by. A moment to signify our new beginning and the start to a prosperous history as mates.

She took the weapon in her claws gingerly, as if touching it might break it and she looked at me with a sense of gratitude and glee coming through the link, along with another emotion...a strong sense of salivating hunger? Thank you Xaez. I'll be sure to remember this moment for the rest of our lives!

And then she ate the weapon...

It took me way too long to finish this, especially considering it's less than ten chapters but I can now gladly present my version of how I imagined things ended for Kat and Xaez. What's hopefully an ironic, yet heartwarming moment that is now forever immortalized as another completed Fanfiction of mine.
