Bomb Scare
"Screech!" The train made a halt with an ear-piercing sound, alerting the commuters to stand in front of the door. As the door opened, I made a beeline for the only vacant seat in the row. I scanned the area to see if someone else need the seat more than me.
No one.
As I started taking out my head set, I spotted something staring at me, bleakly and tantilising my curiosity, was a charcoal black suitcase. It was tucked beneath the seat opposite me.
The thoughts that kept flying off me never seemed to end even when I tried to think of something else. I keep staring at the people around me to figure out if they also noticed the strange suitcase. No One. No one at all.
After a while, I decided to just listen to my music not giving the suitcase any of my attention, I dozed off dreaming about the suitcase.
The train doors shut tight as I was awaken by the person next to me, I politely apologised for leaning on her. I then reaised that Toa Payoh MRT station was the next stop, relieved that the person sitting next to me had woken me up. I silently thanked God. From the corner of my eye, I spotted the same charcoal black suitcase again! I made a mental note with panic creeping up my spine that I would inform the staff after I got off at my stop.
I kept staring at the suitcase wating for someone to pick it up.
No one. No one at all.
I approached the officer, fighting my anxiety.
First step, I saw the suitcase in my mind.
Second step, it had a bomb in it.
Third step, it exploded with over a hundred people dead and injured.
Fourth step, I was the one to be blamed.
Fifth step, I ended my life just as they had, all because of me.
Those horrible images, kept greeting me whenever I took a step. At last I was at the office.
Having enough of the questions in my head, I headed to the officer, " I saw a suitcase since I boarded the train from Yishun MRT station."
Folding his arms, his face turned tomato red, glaring at me as if I had done something terribly wrong as he continued the conversation, " Why didn't you inform us sooner? Didn't your school teach you to inform the staff if you see a suspicious object?"
" I was not sure what was inside the suicase!" I argued for my innocence, taking the hint the he wanted me to feel guilty.
Out of the blue, he congratulated me with open arms, thanking me for informing the staff. He later on filled me in with the details, "This was all just a test or prank, as you call it...We were testing the comnmuters on the train to know if they're responsible. I'm disappointed that you were the only one who informed us but you will still get your prize!"
Before he told me what the prize was, we got to know eachother and the staff. They called my mother filled her in with details, asking if I could stay there a little longer, to which to my surprise, she replied with a loud and cheery 'Yes'!
While I was getting to know a female officer, the staff surprised me with my prize!
It was the latest X-box! With free games and an Air Macbook Pro which I can record myself on while playing!
I was so grateful and shocked! " All this? For me?" I later on informed my parents and recalled that event whenever I was on a train.
