Prologue
Every year, there was a party. A party held by Cory. A party to celebrate the new year of America. He had invited all of his friends every time, and usually every one came. However, every year the party was themed differently. This year was themed as a mask party. Where people came wearing different masks, and usually trying to not show who you were. Yet, this party was gonna be different.

Shelby smiled walking to the snack table. Her silver wolf mask drooped down covering her eyes, she lifted it back in place and continued to her destination.

She smiled again as she saw the table just ahead of her. She stopped at the edge of the table. She scanned it with wonder in her eyes. A table full of delectable treats sitting there, waiting to be eaten with a savoring intention. But Shelby didn't care to savor the food, yet she just ate it right away and let the taste melt in her mouth. She grabbed an éclair and shoved it into her mouth. She ate it, happily smiling. The taste of the chocolate filled breading filled her taste buds with joy and energy.

Then a tall yet slim man walked up behind her. His black tuxedo made his yellow emoji mask pop. His mask smiled, showing his fake happiness, but really he was nervous. His next move would need to be strategic. For he had planned it out this whole time. His hands shook and became clammy. The man looked at his phone, it was 11: 55. Midnight was sooner than he had expected. He felt more nervous than ever before in his life. Without even thinking, he cleared his throat then spoke.

"Ahem...Excuse me miss?" He asked shyly.

Shelby stopped and thought for a moment. She couldn't recognize that voice. For some reason it was different. One she felt like she had never heard before. She smiled then quickly turned around to see the man. She smiled as he looked down seeming nervous.

"H..Hi. Um..." She had no words. She didn't know what to say.

"Uh..hello..um I wanted to ask you to..." He trailed off with the end of his words.

"To..?" Shelby asked.

The man shook his head then held out one of his hands, looking down, more nervous than before. Shelby looked up at him, he was scared, and she could feel it. She smiled, but hesitated at first to take his hand.

"To dance! Oh course..." She said quietly.

The music blasted in the background with the song that Shelby knew by heart. She smiled and grabbed his hand. She dragged him through the crowd smiling uncontrollably. The man blushed a dark red as they kept going. Then they stopped in a small clearing closest to the DJ.

Shelby danced with the man, her dress flowing with her body as she twirled. She smiled and looked at the man. He just stood there in shock, smiling. Shelby grabbed his arms and danced happily with him. They twirled and smiled. The man blushed a deep red smiling. They could see through each other's masks. They both loved this. Then he stopped.

"I can't really dance.." The man said quietly.

"What? Everyone can dance! Maybe you just haven't tried yet." Shelby said. She took his arms and looked up into his eyes.

"Now follow my steps." She said.

He followed her foot work as she seemed to make a pattern in a square on the floor. They smiled, and Shelby giggled. Then the music died down, and everyone looked toward the DJ confused.

"Well everyone! It's that time! So get with your partner, cus its almost midnight folks!" The DJ announced excitedly.

Shelby looked over and saw the clock 11:59. There was one minute before midnight and she had to find him. She looked around and then that man caught her eye. She studied him more than before, and did an internal face palm. She knew who she had been dancing with. She smiled then went over to him. The man seemed very nervous.

"Well I don't have a partner, do you?" She asked smirking. He shook his head. "Well then I guess your my partner, now."

He blushed a bright red and Shelby giggled. Every started to count down, from 10 to midnight. Shelby smile and got closer to him. He looked at her. She pulled his collar to pull his face down. Every had gotten to 5. Still counting. Then Shelby pulled up her mask, and pulled up the man's mask, revealing Tommy's face. She smiled as every got to 3. Still counting. Finally they hit 1, and Shelby kissed Tommy on the lips. Tommy was in shock at first, but then got into it. Fireworks went off in the background, people cheered yelling 'happy new year', and couples still kissed one another.

They pulled away both smiling, then Tommy said, "I love you, Shelby."

And Shelby replied saying, "I love you too, Tommy."

They smiled hugging one another then soon went back to partying.
