Chapter 8: Alone (4/19/19)
Ezra was alone in a cell on the star destroyer wallowing in his own self defeat. He had originally created the plan of escaping before being thrown in a cell, but he had fallen unconscious after using so much strength to get loose from the sith lords grasp. It had all gone wrong, and now Ezra was waking up for the first time since then.
He found himself strapped to a strange metal table that was stationed on a diagonal slant. His legs, arms, and chest all had uncomfortable metal straps that held him down. Ezra was too short for the metal contraption, which left the metal strap, which was supposed to be around his stomach, was around his chest instead. He could feel the edges of the metal, rubbing unpleasantly under his armpits. It reminded him of the same contraption he had found Kanan in aboard the Sovereign almost a year ago.
Looking around for the first time, he did not see Sabine anywhere. He immediately began to panic. The last time he had seen her was in Lord Vader's office when everything had gone wrong.
Ezra struggled against his bounds, but could not get lose. He settled his mind and concentrated on the metal that surrounded his wrists. Closing his eyes invoked him to realize that he had a headache. He growled as he tried to influence the Force to break the metal, but nothing happened. Moving his feet was no good either, since he wasn't even touching the ground. A tear rolled down his cheek, as he let out a sudden gasp and stopped struggling. There was no way out.
"Don't struggle, dear one," a female voice said from the darkness around Ezra.
He stopped and looked around, only to see nothing. Only blackness surrounded him, although Ezra recognized the voice. It was the Seventh Sister.
"All we need are answers. There is no need for pain," the voice said again from a different angle.
"Where are you?" Ezra demanded.
A hand shot out of the dark, startling Ezra. The Seventh Sister's hand landed on Ezra's right shoulder. She gently traced her fingers down his arm as she moved to stand in front of him with her catlike movements. The gesture made a shiver run down his spine.
"I will ask you one more time," the inquisitor stated as she ignited her red lightsaber.
Now Ezra could see her. The only light was the evil glow of the red saber between them. Her eyes glowed brightly, as did the strange red markings on her face.
"Where is the rebel alliance?"
"There is nothing to tell," Ezra stated, "We went to the medical base to get medical supplies. We were alone! It was only our crew. I know of nobody else!" he lied.
"It's a pity; one so young and brave should endure what Lord Vader will inflict upon you,"
"Where's my friend?"
"Oh, she is being dealt with separately. There is no fun in toying with you two together,"
"You didn't answer my question," Ezra complained.
"Neither did you,"
The Seventh Sister deactivated her saber, leaving Ezra to blink in the sudden darkness.
"I will be back, with Lord Vader," her sweetly, venomous voice said.
Ezra heard a door open and then shut.
"Hurry, Kanan," he whispered to himself.
-----
Lord Vader entered Ezra's dark cell about an hour later. The lights were turned on, blinding Ezra as he blinked rapidly. Without the use of his hands, he couldn't block the light. It didn't help that he had just woken up too.
"My inquisitor tells me you refuse to corporate," Lord Vader said.
Ezra said nothing. He was too tired and couldn't think of a single thing to say. His whole body seemed drained from his recent escape attempts. Lord Vader closed the door and stood in front of his captive. Ezra slowly opened his eyes to the brightness around him. He squinted up at the sith lord. He was so tall, even taller than Kanan.
"Since interrogator droids are useless on Jedi, I will have to do this myself,"
Lord Vader reached out his right hand. At first, Ezra felt nothing, but suddenly felt everything. His head hit the metal behind him and he let out a loud groaning sound. He tried hard to keep in his sounds of pain, but could not. He had never felt anything so painful in his life. Vader's crushing power forced Ezra to move uncontrollably under his restraints. The nausea that overcame him was instant, but his head was stuck to the metal like a powerful magnet, forcing his head back. His chest felt crushed under the weight of the metal strap and his stomach turned uneasily over and over again.
"Where is the rebel alliance?" Lord Vader asked calmly.
Ezra's response came out more as a scream then words, "No! They are... out... space..."
"Go on," Lord Vader insisted as he made his hold on Ezra's poor mind more controlling.
Tears streamed down the young boy's face and his useless thrashing continued.
"No!" he shouted, "A base... searching..."
"Tell me where they are," Lord Vader growled as he advanced his gloved hand to Ezra's forehead.
At the contact, Ezra went cold. He stopped moving and all sound that had been coming out of his mouth stopped. He slouched, falling in his restraints, as his head rolled to the side. His eyes closed, but the tears were still quickly rolling down his soaked cheeks.
Lord Vader let go of the Force and stepped back. He looked at his gloved hands and then to the boy. Outreaching his hand again, he forced Ezra's head forward and opened his eyes with the Force. The boy started to shake as he was forced to look into Lord Vader's dark mask.
"Tell me where the rebel alliance is," he said for a final time.
"The... rebel alliance... is..." Ezra had lost control of his mind and was about to blurt out where his friends and the whole rebel alliance fleet was in space.
Something in his mind told him to stop, but the influence of the sith lord was to powerful. If he let go, he would be swept up in Lord Vader's control.
"They... are..." Ezra went on, but stopped again as his words got chocked up in his mouth. His tongue felt puffy and abnormally large, stopping the words from spilling out.
Somewhere in the back of his mind a voice rang out. He did not know who it was, for he was too tired, but he listened to the voice. Instead of letting go of his mind, he let go of his consciousness. If he were asleep, the sith could get no information out of him.
"I can't..." Ezra's head hit the back of the restraining metal again and he was out.
Author's Note: This was a hard chapter to write, but was also interesting. Who do you think was talking inside Ezra's head? Comment who you think it was! (Yoda? Kanan? Ahsoka?)
