Chapter 6: Lord Vader (4/10/19)
"We have arrived," that was the first thing the Seventh Sister had said since they jumped into lightspeed a couple hours ago.
Ezra had fallen asleep during the long ride through lightspeed with Sabine by his side. The ride had been silent besides the quiet, steady breathing of Ezra's soft snores of sleep. The Seventh Sister had not spoken once, which had surprised Sabine since she had been so talkative back in the medical base.
Sabine didn't get scared often, but she would rather meet Lord Vader with Ezra awake by her side. Sabine looked to him and shook his shoulder gently.
"Ezra, wake up," she whispered.
The Seventh Sister waited patiently as her fighter was pulled into the star destroyer with the tractor beam. Ezra opened his eyes and blinked a couple times repetitively before lifting his head and looking around.
"Where are we?" his voice raspy from his nap.
"We are landing on Vader's star destroyer," Sabine explained.
"Any sign of Kanan?"
Sabine didn't have to answer him, because Ezra saw the answer written on her disappointed face. She looked away, back towards where they were being pulled into the belly of the beast. Ezra suddenly shivered and curled up within himself.
"What is it?" Sabine asked, concerned.
"The cold," Ezra mumbled, "It is everywhere, all at once," he seemed to be grasping for something he could not find. Sabine tried her best to comfort him.
"That would be the feeling of fear, my boy," the inquisitor said and replaced the mask over her face with the press of a button, "It will soon consume you, and you will have no choice but to join Lord Vader,"
"What? Why do you think I would ever join you and your band of bullies?"
"Oh, I know you wouldn't voluntarily, but Lord Vader has his ways," the soft feminine laugh of the enemy was not comforting.
Ezra and Sabine made worried eye contact as the fighter jostled by the instant, force controlled landing from the tractor beam. The Seventh Sister stood and opened the back door to the shuttle. Instant stormtroopers came to her aid and surrounded the base of the TYE fighter. There were at least twenty of them! Even if Ezra and Sabine wanted to fight, they couldn't. There were simply too many without the help of their weapons that had been stolen hours ago by the Seventh Sister. She had taken Ezra's lightsaber, Sabine's blasters, and detonators that she had been carrying on her body in various places.
The prisoners stood after being unbound from the wall of the shuttle. Then they were pushed out of the shuttle by two stormtroopers with blasters already at their backs. Ezra had been captured more times than he could count, but this time would go at the top of his list for most life threatening. He had never been captured by an inquisitor before and then brought to a sith lord. To be honest with himself, he was frightened for what the future held. He hoped Kanan and the crew would find them before it was too late.
"I said move," the stormtrooper jammed his blaster into Ezra's back, which made him stumble forward awkwardly.
Sabine gave him a look that told him to stay in the present. They could not afford to give the Imperials any more reasons to hate them in their current dangerous situation. The Seventh Sister led the way through the hanger of the star destroyer. It was massive and took up lots of space in the already enormous star destroyer. Ezra and Sabine walked behind the inquisitor with the two stormtroopers at their backs. As for the remaining troopers, some stood guard at the inquisitors TYE fighter, while the majority surrounded the prisoners.
After going through an elevator, which led them up a couple levels, the Seventh Sister dismissed the stormtroopers and took Ezra and Sabine herself. It was obvious that she wanted to be labeled the successful hunter by the sith lord. Her argument with the Fifth Brother proved that, as well as her current action of dismissing all the guards.
"If you know what is good for you, you will behave in front of Lord Vader," the Seventh Sister explained mildly.
By the mellow tone of her voice, it appeared as though she really didn't care what the two rebels teens did. Part of her probably already knew Ezra would make a snarky comment or make a futile escape attempt. Sabine knew it to and hoped her friend would contain himself. They really were in real danger now, but if escape was an option, she wasn't afraid to try.
The Seventh Sister stopped at a sliding door with two troopers stationed out front. They were both captain trooper guards.
"Entry for two prisoners and I," she stated to the guards.
The stormtroopers glanced at each other and then stepped to the side to allow the Sister and her prisoners to enter. The sliding door opened and the three walked into Lord Vader's room. It was bare, the only furniture were two chairs that sat in front of a desk. The sith Lord was standing behind the desk with his back to the prisoners, looking out a window. The view of space from the window must have been beautiful.
"I have been expecting you," Lord Vader said.
The sound of his voice was like a cold knife plummeting into Ezra chest. It reminded him of the day he and Kanan had barely escaped the sith about a week ago. That had been the day Ezra truly thought he would die. He almost had, in fact, when Lord Vader had been an inch away from killing him with Ezra's own lightsaber.
"I have brought you two rebels, my Lord," the Seventh Sister proclaimed proudly, "As promised,"
"And the Brother. He is struggling back at the medical base?" Ezra and Sabine hoped his foresight was true.
"Only you have the power to see that far, my lord. But I took the prisoners because I knew I could get them to you without any interference," again, the Sister was down playing her Brother.
Lord Vader turned around to look upon his new prey. Ezra and Sabine both watched in horror as they now saw his mask up close. The eyes on the mask seemed to be glowing a terrifying red from the inside.
"You're actions have been noted, Sister," Vader said, "You are dismissed,"
The Seventh Sister bowed and left the room, leaving only the two frightened rebels to Lord Vader's mercy. Ezra and Sabine looked at one another, wondering what the first move of action would be.
"I have heard that your rebel alliance is growing," Vader stated, not as a question.
The sound of his voice was similar to the Seventh Sister, but very masculine and creepier. Ezra thought of telling him this, but decided against it when he received a look of warning from Sabine. It was as if she knew what he had been thinking. When Ezra did find the words to speak, he was ashamed that they came out shaky.
"Where have you heard that?"
"I have my ways, just as you and your rebels have yours. Come sit down, so we can have a civilized talk,"
Ezra made the first step, with Sabine close beside him. They cautiously sat in the two chairs that sat in front of Lord Vader's desk. He stood behind it, shaping the true look of evil as he stared down at the two frightened children before him. Ezra was suddenly extra curious and wondered what this horrible creature before him use to be like when he was his age. How bad could he have been then? He wanted to ask, but the bubble in his throat couldn't seem to pop.
"You know my name, but I do not know yours. What might they be?" Lord Vader inquired.
"Wait," Ezra suddenly was confused and truly wanted an answer, "is your name actually 'Vader'? Like, that just doesn't seem to be a real name. So, how about you tell us your real name before we..."
Ezra chocked on the words that were suddenly lost on his tongue. At first, he had thought he had just forgotten how to speak out of fear, but realized he was physically chocking. He grasped at his neck in a failed attempt to get some air. Suddenly, Sabine was on her feet in a flash of color.
"Enough!" she shouted, "My name is Sabine. I am a proud Mandalorian warrior who has fought in many battles between my kin. This is my friend, Ezra, who I met about a year ago," Sabine blurted out, anything to save Ezra.
Vader let his Force choke down and Ezra gasped for much needed breath.
"Maybe that will teach you to not talk out of turn, boy," his voice sounded louder and suddenly more intimidating. His mask turned to Sabine, who was still standing and said, "Your obedience will be noted. Sit,"
Sabine didn't like being told what to do, but she would rather do what he said then be choked. Once Ezra had gathered himself to his normal demeanor, he slouched in his chair with a nervous look plastered to his face.
Sabine sat down quickly and looked to her paint splattered boots. She suddenly noticed that the Seventh Sister had only taken her weapons. Her two paint guns were still stationed at her belt. Sabine looked away from them, hoping the sith lord had not already seen the plan that was slowly forming in her mind. She didn't really understand how the Force worked, or if it were even possible to see telepathically into somebodies head.
"Where is your rebel alliance?" Vader asked suddenly, making Sabine snap out of her thoughts.
"Alliance?" Ezra hoped his lying face was working, "If rebels are what you call us, then our crew is the only rebels you'll find,"
"If you lie to me, there will be consequences," Vader said, putting extra emphasis on every word, "And what of the Jedi who is traveling with you? Your master, I assume,"
"How am I supposed to know? That creepy lady took me away from him!"
Sabine fought the urge to slap her palm against her forehead. She couldn't believe Ezra sometimes.
"If you won't talk, I will make you talk,"
"Jedi's are trained to look beyond mind tricks," Ezra argued.
"I see you are learning at an exceptional rate, padawan. Yet, you are missing something. I will make the girl talk, for she is no Jedi," Vader explained.
Ezra looked horrified.
"No, don't touch her!" Ezra almost shouted, "I will do whatever you want!"
"Ezra..." Sabine whispered beside him, "Stop, be rational,"
"Sabine, don't get involved," Ezra hissed. Now it was his turn to give her the warning glare.
"You will listen to me," Lord Vader said, breaking up the argument.
Ezra looked back to the sith lord and the coldness suddenly took control over him again. He nodded, numbly. Sabine started slowly reaching for her cans of paint. If all else failed, she supposed she could make the sith lords mask a little more colorful. As if Vader had sensed her thoughts, he used one quick motion with only the use of two of his fingers and flung Sabine in the air. She screamed as Ezra jumped to his feet and shouted her name in unison.
Sabine landed in a heap against the far wall. Still conscious, but not able to move. Vader reached out with his arm, obviously using the Force to keep her in place. Ezra turned to the sith and pleaded.
"I said I would listen! Don't hurt her!"
"She broke that part of the bargain," Vader argued.
"She didn't do anything!" Ezra shouted, "If you want to punish somebody, punish me!"
"I see your Force abilities need some work then,"
"My Force abilities are growing every day!" Ezra countered.
Ezra started advancing towards Sabine, but was suddenly stopped. Vader was now using the Force on him too, holding him in place. Ezra looked shakily to Sabine who was staring wide eyed at him from her place on the ground. He looked down to the ground slowly, trying to break the Force hold on his head first. When he looked up again, he was suddenly a different person. A very different person, with a new power.
Using the Force, he bent the air to push away from him in all directions. He broke the connection between Vader and himself. Once he had control of his body again, he turned and dashed at the sith lord. He didn't realize his mistake until it was too late.
Ezra used all the anger and fear he had been bottling up inside of him and threw it at Lord Vader. The sith merely took a surprised step back. The Force that had been emitted from Ezra was nothing compared to how powerful he was. From all the strength and darkness Ezra and just used, he fell to the ground, exhausted. Kanan had warned him of the dark side of the Force, but Ezra had let his hate take over once again.
Author's Note: If you have any questions or comments, do ask or tell! I really enjoyed having this interaction between Ezra, Sabine, and Vader. Very fun to write! :D
