Stone Holders
Noah sat up quickly, panting and covered in sweat, his night shirt drenched in it and sticking to his skin. Ion was at his side, a look of worry on his face.
"Finally you're up. You had another night terror. Noah, are you okay?"
Noah rubbed his eyes and brushed Ion off.
"Of course! I am, after all, the one and only Earth bender! Besides- it's the rotation of the Earth that really makes my day."
Ions face fell into a glare.
"You're not funny. And that was kinda out of the blue."
Noah shrugged
"What can I say, there are many things in the ocean."
Ion shook his head.
"Just get your butt in the shower. You're already late, you're sweaty and gross, and we need to be ready in 15 minutes."
Noah nodded and got up out of his bed. His bed was a mess compared to Ions, and Noah's few belongings were scattered across the room whereas Ion's things were kept in a neat bin by his bed. Noah turned on the shower. He probably spent a good two or three minutes just thinking over his dream- no- nightmare. The gory images of his friends, Ion, Jane, Opal, Lance and Jacob flashed in his mind. Eventually he snapped back to reality and continued to clean himself up.
After he got dressed, he walking out to the joint bedroom. The door out to the hallway was cracked open, proof that Ion had left and that if Noah didn't hurry, he would be late. Noah put on his shoes, double knotting them and mentally prepared for himself for the day of training ahead. He was personally don't with this crap, but he had to stay strong. For the others. He knew very well he was the pivot point for the other five, despite Ion being the most mature. It was a big responsibility, but one he was willing to live up to it.
And with a that final thought Noah dashed out the door and down the halls. The white marble floors passed him as he jogged. He made it to the dining room and sat down it his chair so hastily he nearly fell out of it. Jane snickered as he sat up awkwardly and faced the man in black, simply known as "Boss". Without removing his cold blue-grey eyes from his pocket watch he spoke.
"Another ten seconds and you would've been late. Ion made it here five minutes ago. What was your delay?"
"Oh nothing. Just a little scare that totally wasn't caused by the constant torture you call 'training'" Noah scoffed.
Boss sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.
"You know, if you weren't so important, I would've ordered your death a long time ago."
"I know, that's why it's fun to prod at you."
"Until someone gets hurt you mean? Like, hmmm, let's see, Glenda?"
Noah swallowed. Glenda had been the lead when he first arrived at S.H.I.N. but Noah and Glenda had played around too much and she was.....he couldn't stand to think about it. Ion was the only other one who knew what happened, seeing as he had been the only one around at the time. The other four only knew not to talk about it and that Noah never elaborated on the topic with anyone. Noah knew that deep down Ion hated him for letting Glenda get killed, and Noah felt as he deserved every drop of anger and disgust that Ion showed for him.
Ion looked at Noah with seemingly pitiful eyes. Noah ducked his head and stared at his hands on the counter in front of him as Boss chuckled to himself.
"Well. You should all eat up. Today will be light training followed by a free afternoon unless we have.....complications. Tomorrow we will be traveling for another mission. Details will be explained later." And with that he left.
"Hey Noah, you should know better than be late to InitialStart!" Lance said as he punched Noah playfully in the arm, snapping him away from his thoughts.
Initial start was just that- a start to the day. Role-call, breakfast, preparations and mission briefings before training for the day started.
"Heh. Yeah, that was stupid of me. Guess you could say I needed to have an Initial wake up call."
Ion just shook his head as he got up and grabbed a plate from the counter.
"Just get your food and eat up. Who knows how long it will be till we have a decent breakfast again, I mean, you all heard him. Well be traveling for our upcoming mission."
"I agree with Ion." Opal said quietly as she got up and got some food as well. Noah noticed that they had miscounted the plates. Again. Lance glanced at him.
"Go ahead. You need to eat." Noah said.
"So do you!" Lance insisted.
"Well I'm not hungry actually. Besides, I'm the one who can grow things remember?" Noah said, knowing full well that his powers only partially contained the power to grow and that he struggled with most plants that were large enough to actually produce something. But he wouldn't tell that to anyone.
"H-here. Let's just share." Opal said as she pushed her plate closer to Noah. He was reluctant, but grateful and knew that Opal would feel bad if he didn't get something food himself, so he ate anyways.
The five shared some pleasant conversations while eating and in their down time afterwards. When the dining room doors swung open and Boss came in, his shoes clacking on the laminated wood floors, they all got out of their seats. Slowly but surely, Noah got out of his chair and stood still like the others.
"Today things will be different. We will be checking up on your stones and your powers. This will be done one at a time. Meanwhile, the rest of you will be playing a simple game of capture the flag and maybe some team dueling. Now, who's going first."
Without hesitation Noah volunteered. He didn't want something going down with the others unprepared. If he went first he could see what exactly it was they were planning to do. Boss sighed and muttered under his breath.
"Very well. Noah, with me, rest of you, to the courtyard."
Noah waved to the rest of them then followed Boss, like a dog on a leash, though it angered him to think of it that way.
"So what are we doing today? More torture? More relentless training? More shocks-"
"Shut up." Boss spat.
"Why should I?" Noah questioned.
"It would be a shame if you went to bed half bleeding to death tonight. And how embarrassing that must be for you in front of Ion."
Noah honestly could care less what they do to him. And if they killed him he could get away from this hell hole. But he didn't want anyone else to worry about him, and Ion already was dressed out about his frequent nightmares. So Noah fell silent and continued to follow Boss. They stopped at a room that had two heavy metal doors. Boss pulled out some keys and unlocked the room, pushing one door open. There was a table in the middle of the blindingly white room.
"Please sit down" Boss instructed.
Noah did as he was told- and sat on the floor.
Boss sighed.
"Today is going to be a long day." He mumbled.
"On the table, please, Noah."
"Oh I'm sorry, you didn't specify. And now I don't want to get up, cause I'd have to use my legs." Noah said, leaning against the table legs to get his point across.
"Noah. Sit. On. The. Table. Don't make this take longer than it should."
"Fine, fine! No need to be so harsh."
Noah sat down. Boss did a routinely checkup, making sure Noah's breathing patterns where normal, making sure his heart was functioning as it should, exedra. Then Boss had Noah take off his shirt, which he was not very comfortable doing, but he did it anyways. Boss held what seemed like some sort of tablet above Noah's chest and seemed to write notes of to the side of the screen.
"What is it?" Noah asked after some time.
"Your stone seemed to be chipped. None of your vital signs aren't to be off though. Have you felt any pain?"
"No. Not that I can recall."
"That's good. I will be continuing to check up on you. But for now, let's test your powers."
"What will happen? If my stone remains chipped or continues to chip?" Noah asked suddenly worried.
"Nothing, hopefully, besides maybe make your powers harder to access. It should meddle with your physical health."
"Glad to know that will stay, rock solid." Noah joked, mostly to appease himself. Boss raised a brow at him.
"Yes. You could say that. Now, I will give you some tasks, starting with basic, working our way to advance. Now show me what you've got."
-1 hour later-
Noah panted. Vines dropped over his body as he held his hand in front of him. He fixated his energy in the growing tree he tended to. He was sweaty, tired and gnashed his teeth as he struggled to harness control of the growth of the plant.
"That's it. Keep going, almost there."
Noah gave one last push. And with that, the tree grew taller and produced a single apple which fell to the ground. Noah placed his hand on his knees as he doubled over and panted. He had spent fifteen minutes trying to get that far.
"Decent I suppose. Given your- situation. And that growing plants isn't necessarily part of your asset group. But your control over the earth is fantastic."
"Heh. Seems like my plant powers just need to grow some more." Noah said shakily.
"Another joke. Nevermind it. Putt your shirt back on. It's time for the next one. Who do you think I should do next?"
Noah wasn't about to offer up one of his friends, even for something as seemingly unhurt-full as this.
"Very well then. I shall do Ion next. Or Opal. The two of them are bound to cooperate much better than you did. Now. Go join your little friends and send Ion over, will you?"
Noah glared at Boss but walked over to the others, weak in the legs from using so much energy for using his powers. A whistle was blown and they paused the game. Noah walked over to Ion and patted him on the back.
"Your turn bud. Should be safe."
