Snowstorm

I trudged on through the storm, trying desperately to ignore the harsh winds that encouraged the bitter cold to bite at whatever unbundled part of me was exposed- mainly my face which was reddened from the frigid temperatures of the high mountains.

A sudden gust sent another flurry of snowflakes my way, limiting my sight further. I locked my jaw and grappled at my jacked to pull it tiger around me as I felt myself shift backwards a bit from the force of the wind.

I looked forward again to continue. I had to keep going. I wouldn't even be safe on the other side of the mountains, but it would be a much easier trek from there. If I headed through the Forest of Darkwood and plains of Hilida, then I would be well off from there. The thought of the warm plains was welcome in my mind as my body went on autopilot. The tickling sea-grass as it whispered, shifting patch to patch as the gently winds whisked through it. The blazing sun as it reflected off water holes and the beautiful sight it would cast when in collaboration with the spare tree. But most importantly, it would heat up my body, keeping me content in the radiating warmth.

I gasped as my thoughts were wrenched back to reality by a growl from somewhere around me. I froze upon instinct. I drew my staff from where it was tied to my back, ready to defend against whatever came at me. I could barely hear anything over the howl of the wind and crunching of snow beneath me as I shifted from foot to foot, slowly turning myself to scan all my surroundings. Not that it helped much, as the constant flurries of snow constantly kept the area around me concealed from view.

I heard a howl from behind me and whiled around just in time to find a cat, claws outstretched. I ducked and hit its chest with my staff, sending it off course. It's fur was a light grey with small ring-like patterns in a darker tone down its back. It was no wonder I hadn't seen it before hand. It came at me again. I side stepped and struck at it, nearly clipping its side. It instantly pivoted of the ground and jumped at me before I could get a chance to get out of the way.

It's sharp as daggers claws tore through my upper right arm, tearing my jacket and shirt, leaving deep gashes on my now exposed arm that stung like fire as they bleed into the clothing that still remained around them.

The Cat, now noticing my injury came at me again. I held my staff in my left hand, ready to attack. I stepped back, to find myself slipping of the edge. I screamed as I fell shortly. My right arm caught on the edge of the cliff, causing me to yell in pain. I dropped my staff in favor of clutching the cliff face with both arms. The Cat tried to turn in the air, but still flew over my head, still clawing at me as it fell out of sight to its demise.

I couldn't see much below me, leaving me with one option. Up. I pushed up, using my arms as leverage, relying on the strength of my left arm and upper body strength. I got my waist up to the edge of the cliff when my arms slipped, sending me back to the edge. I clung on for dear life. Adrenaline forced me to try again. I fell again, this time, only abled to find a ledge to hold onto with one hand. Tears pricked at my eyes.

It wasn't that I was actually of dying, really. It was just that I had been through so much and gotten so far. But it was all a tease. This would be my end. I attempted to raise myself one last time, despite the overbearing pain that caused me to yell out as I did, probably attracting every feral creature nearby. Even though I had accepted a fate of death, I still screamed as my hands separated form the ledge as I fell one final time.

I only screamed for a second before something grabbed my left wrist. I didn't fight my instinct to grapple on to that thing and hold on for dear life. As I felt myself lifted up with a grunt from whatever force it was that had saved me from certain doom, I looked up to see a girl. She had her hair brown hair in two braids over her shoulders. She wore a jacket that had a fuzzy hood that had been knocked down by the wind. Her hands were bare, surprising me. I could see there was a figure behind her, helping her pull me up, though I couldn't see who it was.

By the time they got me back up over the ledge, I was to over-exerted. I collapsed onto the ground, passing out despite the sharp pain from the deep gash on my arm that bleed into the snow, staining it red. The last thing I saw was the girl and the mysterious figure, who appeared male, bend over me as everything faded black.
