Hoodie
I shoved the key into my apartment door lock, turning and pulling out before entering. I pushed the door closed with considerable force behind it.
My apartment was messy. It consisted of three rooms; a main room with a kitchenette, bedroom and bathroom. It was big enough for two people, but I live alone. Although, two may have lived there with how messy it was.
I locked the door before slipping my book bag off. I traversed my bedroom, threw down my bag at my nightstand to the right of the bed before collapsing atop the sheets of my bed, messing up the already unkept fabrics.
And I broke down.
Warm tears ran down my face freely. My breathing became restricted as I gasped for air in between sobs. It's just so hard. Not to break that promise when I'm so far away from everyone I've ever loved and everything I've ever known.
I wish someone was here right now.
Not anyone in particular.
Not my best friend, not my brother, not my mom.
Just someone.
I grabbed the pillow and shoved it on my face, screaming into it. I rolled back and forth, finally stopping on my right side. I dropped the pillow and let my eyes fall to the floor as the tears continued to fall.
Through my blurred vision something black in my wardrobe of bright clothes stuck out. I sat up to view it correctly. I immediately recognized it.
It was the hoodie Skylar had given to me before I left. He had given it to me telling me he wanted me to always have a part of him with me. It was the most memorable thing I had of my boyfriend.
I got up, and though my legs felt weak, I crossed the room and grabbed it off the hanger to view it.
Lifting it up it was a black hoodie with no words, but a purple dragon design on the back.
He loved this hoodie. Purple was his favorite colors and dragons are his favorite animal.
I tried to tell him that dragons didn't exit, but he never listened. The one part of the design was dulled in color and saw through to the black fabric in a splotchy shape- a bit from the one time he dropped he and it grazed the hoodie. The zipper was stuck halfway up, busted a long time ago.
I smiled before the feeling of being alone, here without him hit me again like a brick wall.
In a desperate attempt to feel comfort, I slipped on the hoodie. I swore it still smelled of him.
I moved back to my bed, this time sitting with my back against the pillow and head on the wall. I wasn't even aware I put the right draw string in my mouth. One moment it was sitting against my chest. The next I was chewing it.
I pulled out my laptop to pull up something funny to watch, maybe try to message Skylar when there was a knock at the door.
"Just a minute" I called.
I sighed and put the laptop down. I checked myself in the mirror, making sure my hair wasn't too much a mess and my clothes too shitty before I opened the door.
"Hello Maria, hope you don't mind me dropping by."
My jaw dropped before I screamed in delight and tackled my boyfriend, who was standing at the door with a suitcase after having driven 3 hours to get here.
"Skylar! I've missed you so much!"
"I've missed you too." He cooed.
I smiled up at him, maybe a tear rolling down my cheek.
"I love you. So much."
"I love you too." He smiled.
"Now come on, let's head in. Want to go get something to eat after I drop my stuff?"
