It begins with you - part 1
Her side
I woke up a little earlier than usual for the weekend. I rolled out of bed, looking at the watch at my bed side table. It was 8 in the morning. I got up and did all my morning routine, but I skipped breakfast. When I got dressed, I went and got my stuff in my room. My camera, laptop, sketch pad and my pencil and charcoal set were all stuffed in my favorite duffle bag.
I looked at my watch, it was almost 10, and I still planned on passing by the park for inspiration and some photo shots. I half ran out of the apartment, and walked a steady pace towards the park, which was five blocks away from my apartment.
When I reached the park, I stop and looked around, taking in my surroundings and feeling the cool breeze of December. It hasn't snowed yet, but the weatherman predicted it to snow this afternoon.
I started my usual weekend walking and took out my camera, so that it would be ready when there is something that caught my attention.
When I was almost at the lake, in the center of the park, I felt someone staring at me. I turned around but only saw a couple jogging side by side. I let it slide and continued my walk.
I caught a sight of two nightingale snuggling with each other and took a photo. Then the breeze got strong, making them fly away after a few shots. The breeze also took some of the last leaf off the tree, looking majestic as the season change.
I continued taking photos around me feeling the essence of fall to winter.
Then, I felt it again, a presence of a person looking at me.
His side
I got up early today for a reason. I slept in my best friend's apartment since I got nowhere to go as of the moment. I just got back from a conference in Europe and still got a jet lag from the trip. I rolled out of bed, looking at the watch on the bed side table. It was 8 in the morning; I was still sleepy, which was unlike me. I usually got up at 5 since my work starts at 7. But, I got this weekend off for a reason.
After that, I took a shower. I didn't bother to eat a huge breakfast and got bread from the fridge. After I stuffed the bread in my mouth, I walked up and knocked at my best friend's room to wake him up. I don't want to ruin this day and be late just because he woke up late.
I started hammering the door when he didn't answer.
"God! Stop it already; you'll ruin my door, man! I'm up" he said, shouting. I heard him rampaging, looking for clothes then I stopped knocking his door down.
"Dude, its 9:30. We should be there before her or she will notice." I shouted as I walked toward the front room.
"God! You're so pushy. I'm done." he said and stepped out of his room.
"Let's go. I can't wait for you any longer." I shouted in the front room, grabbing his car keys.
"We're driving? But it's only one bus ride?" he said, whining like a baby.
"Yes! Because you woke up late, so this is punishment. God, stop whining." I said a little bit annoyed, and ran downstairs.
We got to the park on time. She always passed by the oak tree near the lake. We stood by a few feet away in a disguise. We wore a hoodie and glasses, almost looking like suspicious a person. We stood behind the tree and sat for 10 minutes until she passed by.
I smiled as I looked at her. She wore her hair up and had a light make up on. She smiled when she saw two nightingales snuggling with each other. She shivered slightly when a cold breeze came. Then, I looked down at what she wore, noticing that she didn't have a coat on, just a jacket underneath a polo and a white v-neck shirt. I had the urge to go to her and offer my hoodies for extra covering, but I stood my ground and not ruin everything.
Then, she looked around suspiciously. She almost noticed us a few feet away when someone distracted her.
An old man asked her for directions and she gladly guides him the way.
Her side
I got distracted when an old man approached me, asking for directions. I gladly showed him the way since I don't want to be alone when I felt someone is staring at me.
When we got to the exit, the old men thank me and said his goodbye. I smiled and waved him in replay.
I thought about going back to the park when my stomach rumbled. I laughed to myself and started to walk towards my favorite diner.
As I got inside, I walked straight, sitting at my usual booth. The waitress came up to me, smiling.
"How are you doing today honey?" she said, greeting me.
"I'm fine. I got some great shots with me today." I said, putting the camera in the table in front of me.
"Really? I want to see what you got today. I'll be back with your usual, so get things settled." she said, smiling as she walked away.
I got my laptop and sketch pad out of my bag, and then turned the laptop on. As I was waiting for it to start up, I looked out the window. Two guys walked up and went inside the diner. I had a feeling that I knew them, but I couldn't be sure since their face were cover up in their hoodie and have glasses on.
I snapped out of it when the waitress came with my vanilla smoothie and blueberry pancake.
"Here is your order, just as you like it." she said, and put the plate in front of me.
"Thank you." I said, and had a sip of my vanilla smoothie. I close my eyes to savor its delicious, milky taste.
"So, what shots you got today?" she asked, looking at my laptop.
"I haven't transferred it yet, I'll call you up when I'm finished." I said shyly.
"Okay honey." she said and walked up to the two guys a few seats across my booth.
When I looked at their booth, the guy with a red hoodie was staring at me. He looked away when he noticed me looking their way.
The guy definitely looked familiar.
His side
We silently followed her as she escorted the old man out of the park. She smiled and waved him goodbye after he thanked her. She stood still and looked back at the park. She looked like she was debating whether to go back or not. Then, she laughed and walked at the direction I know she would go to eat.
She was going to her favorite diner.
"Come on dude, she is going to the diner next." I said, grabbing his wrist.
"Chill man. She's not going anywhere. You even know where she is going." he said, shoving my hand from my hold.
"I'm sorry dude. Today just have to be perfect." I said seriously. I wanted it to be perfect.
"I know dude. But, chill out, she isn't doing anything out of the ordinary. It would work out." he said, assuring me.
"I know." I said, sighing. "Let's go."
When we got to the diner, she was already seated in her favorite booth. I can see her from the outside, getting her laptop set up; then, she looked in our direction. I drop my gaze for I know she would be looking at me.
"Come on man, we should hurry inside, she might notice us." I said, as I quicken my pace.
As I got inside, she was distracted, talking to the waitress. I dragged my best friend a few booth across from her. I sat at the side where I can get the best view of her. She was smiling shyly, talking to the waitress.
After their chat, the waitress walked towards us. Her attention shifted at our booth, looking directly at me. I dropped my gaze again. Before I looked away, she looked like she noticed and knew who I was. I shifted my attention to the waitress.
"What can I get for you boys?" she said with a smile.
"Just a coffee for me, please." I said.
"I'll have your lunch set." my best friend said. I stared at him, my right eyebrow raised.
"What?" he asked. "I didn't eat breakfast, I'm hungry man. Don't judge me." he added sternly.
I smirked at his words. After the waitress got our order, I took a glance in her way for a second. She wasn't anymore looking at our direction. She had all her attention on her laptop. So, I stared at her while she worked.
When the waitress returned with our order, I started with our first agenda of the plan today.
"Excuse me, if you don't mind me. But, can you put the bill of that girl over there, working with her laptop, in ours." I said with a smile.
"sure." she said, with a confuse look. "Do you want me to tell her about it?" she asked.
"No. But, I'll appreciate it if you by me a white rose and give it to her." I said, and reached out my hand toward hers with a 50 dollar bill. "You can keep the change." I added, and smiled.
"sure." she said, unsure of her answer.
As she walked away, I went back and start staring at her again. She was still absorbed with her work, munching with her pancake in the side. Then, she smiled and took a sip on her smoothie. She looked like she was enjoying herself.
After ten minutes, the waitress approached her, handing her three white roses. She looked shocked for a second, and took it. A smile was slowly creeping on her face as she smelled the roses with her eyes closed. Then she looked my way again.
Her side
I was focused on my work, editing the photos I just took when the waitress approached me.
"Hi honey. Sorry to have bothered you, but someone asked me to give you these roses." she said, giving me three white roses rapped in red plastic rapper.
I was shocked. Where did it come from? I wondered. I smelled the sweet sent of the roses, savoring it. Then I felt it again. Someone was staring at me.
I looked at the booth where the guy with a red hoodie sat. He was looking at me again. He stiffen when our eyes met, then he quickly looked away. He started a conversation with the guy sitting across him. He slowly takes a sip of his coffee, facing the wall, so that I couldn't see him fully as he drank.
I definitely knew him, but I couldn't be sure since the man I had in mind is a thousand miles away from here. It couldn't be him. I would have known if he got back.
I pushed the thought away. I don't want to make any false allegations. I'll call him to make sure.
I picked up my phone and dialed his number. A few seconds passed, his phone only kept ringing. I glance quickly at the guy with the red hoodie, and he was still talking to his friend. His phone didn't ring and he didn't answer any calls.
I was getting paranoid, so i dropped it.
"Thank you. Who is it from?" I said and asked out of curiosity.
She just smiled and walked away without answering my question. I think she was hiding something from me.
I took a deep breath to calm myself down and looked at my laptop, then to the man in the red hoodie. I glance at my watch after a few seconds; it was almost 1 in the afternoon. I quickly swallowed my food, and drank my smoothie. The smoothie can't be quickened or I'll have a brain freeze.
Before I could finish my smoothie, the guy in the red hoodie stood up and walked towards my direction with his friend a few pace behind him. My heart rate started to rise as he got closer and closer in my direction. I couldn't look at him, so I closed my eye and try to steady my heart rate. I didn't get what was happening to me, but I somehow felt nervous as a light breeze caresses me as they passed.
I didn't realize I was holding my breath when I gasped for air as i heard the door closed behind me. I didn't get why I was nervous. This is definitely a weird day.
His side
I quickly looked away when our eyes met. Why does she have to be observant? I could only hoped that she didn't notice me fully.
I drank my coffee, facing the other way. I was sure she was still staring at me.
"Dude, I think she is on to us." I said softly, so that she couldn't hear.
"Obviously she would. From the way you have been staring at her, she is bound to notice." he said, with his mouth full.
"Dude, come on. Don't act like a pig. Swallow your food before you talk." I said with a smirk on my face. I could still feel her looking at me.
He swallowed his food and asked, "What is she doing now?"
I glanced quickly. She took her phone and dialed a number, then put it in her ear. She looked disappointed after a few seconds then she faced the waitress.
"Thank you. Who is it from?" she said, curiosity in her voice.
Please don't tell it is me. Please don't tell it is me. I chanted mentally, still looking at their direction.
The waitress smiled at her and walked away, not giving her an answer.
She looked offended and annoyed. She closed her eye and took a deep breath. I never seen her this annoyed. I swallowed my laughter with silent coughs. Then, she glance my way again. I looked away just in time she turn and looked at me again.
"Dude, are you finished? We need to go get the other things settled." I said glancing at her again.
She wasn't anymore looking at me. She was focused on her pancake, shoving it as fast as she can. She was definitely annoyed. I couldn't anymore hide my laugh, so I got up living another 50 dollars to pay for hers and our meal.
She flinched slightly when she saw me standing up. I couldn't hide my smirk as it slowly creeps to my face. I sighed with relief that she wasn't looking at me as I passed by. She was settling herself down, closing her eyes. She held her breath as I passed by her. I couldn't help myself anymore and smiled at her reaction.
As I got out of the diner, a few paces away, i felt free and gave myself a good roll of laughter.
"Dude, are you okay?" my best friend asked as he caught up to me.
"You should have looked at her face.... It was priceless." I said between laughs.
"You sure are having fun. Let's go already, she will come out in a few minutes" he said, pushing me forward. I didn't notice that I stopped walking.
