Today's the day.

I am in an unfamiliar room. Nothing but white walls that are stained with unknown substances and browning from the many days they've seen. My wrists are bound with rope, and my feet too. There is one light in the middle of the room that seems to be turned off and on by a long, ratty-looking string hanging from the ceiling. It is flickering as if it would fail at any moment. There's a door on the wall across that's old. It is painted a beige color and is peeling horribly. Above me the ceiling is close to falling. Pieces of the drywall from it slowly become dust and float down to the floor. I can hear voices off in the distance, two men. They go from their calm conversation to voices raised in anger. I hear loud thumps and a slamming door, meaning that they fought. Then all is silent. I wait to hear the men move around, but nothing happens. It feels like I have been sitting here for hours. I try to yell out, but everytime I speak no sound comes out. I can't remember how I got here or why I'm here, but I do know that I have not eaten since I got here. I am told this by the low rumble of my stomach as I slowly inch across the room towards the door. As I get closer, I can see that there is a note that has been slipped under it. I make my way to the note and lean over it, peering down at the hurriedly scribbled words on the yellowing paper. It states: "Today's the day. Make a run for it after all is quiet, but be careful. If you're quiet enough, he won't wake up and we can both be free. I am in the front hall and I will wait for you. You have to go through the kitchen to get here, so you might as well get the knife and free your feet and hands. Then again, he's in there. So, I guess you should come to me and I'll free you." I slowly lift myself onto my knees weakly, just enough to reach the door handle. I slowly turn it and the door quietly opens out into a hallway. I make my way towards where I heard the noise, slowly but surely. Once I reach, what I assume to be, the kitchen I see it. The form of a man underneath a black sheet, and a baseball bat sitting on the floor next to it. I slowly make my way around him and prop myself up to reach the tiny knife from the counter. Then I make my way into the next hallway. Its has many door, but I know that the end of the hall is my destination. I make my way all the way there and waiting there is a boy, not a man. "You made it thank God!" He says and rushes over to me to cut my ankles and hands loose. I just try to stand, mute from whatever I have gone through, but fail and fall back to the floor with a soft thump. I am so weak and light that even the sound of my body hitting the floor is quiet. He then helps me to my feet, practically carrying me out the door. Then everything goes black. "Come on, please wake up. We made it...I could've sworn, we made it out in time." His voice says in distress. Then I remember it all. Kellin, my best friend, saved my life. "Kellin... where am I?" I ask, finding my voice. The man had kidnapped us and locked us up separately. I screamed my lungs out for days to try to get someone to hear but no one came, so the man came and drugged me into silence. Starved, drugged, and bound I laid there for weeks, withering away. "Jamie! You're not dead! I don't know what I would've done if..." His speech drifts off, and so does everything else. Then the black returns. "Today's the day."
