Say something

She ran past the double glass doors of the hospital.

This can't be happening...this can't be happening.... She kept thinking in her head.

He is going to be fine...right?

She ran passed some confused patients. Some muttered slow down and be careful.

But I can't. She thought. I don't have time.

She turned the corner to room 178 and flung the wooden door open.

There he was. On the bed with his eyes closed. Barely breathing. Barely alive.

His right arm was in a cast while his left arm was bruised. The bandages around his head were stark white with splotches of red, completely covering his chocolate colored hair. He had a hospital gown on his sickly frame. It was hardly moving up and down with his shallow breathing.

She already had tears in her eyes before she looked around at the other people in the room. His mom was sitting on the black cushioned chair with a tissue next to her red, puffy eyes. His father was leaning against the wall, trying to stay strong for his wife. They both looked up when she barged in.

She didn't have to ask before his mom started explaining, "David and his friend were going to a concert here in town. His friend was driving and he crossed an intersection but someone-" she choked back tears, "someone t-boned his car on the passenger side..." she couldn't hold back her tears anymore and sobbed into her already damp tissue. Her husband came over and rubbed her back.

"The doctor said he only has a few minutes...I'm glad you got our text in time." He said quietly.

She could only nod as she looked back over at David. She slowly walked over to his bed, holding back tears of her own.

She was now at the left side of his bed, staring at him and thinking of everything they had been through together. She quickly remembered how they first met...it was over a song...and she would never listen to it the same again.

"Say something I'm giving up on you..." she started to whisper the song, "I'll be the one...if you want me to..."

One of the machines he was hooked up to started to beep. Both his parents looked up but she kept on whispering.

"Say something...I'm giving up on you.." a tear ran down her face now. "I'l- I'll be the one..if you want me too."

A red dot started to flicker on and off and she knew...

"And I...will swallow my..pride." More tears streamed down her face. "You're the one that I l-love..." she paused and let that sink in. They weren't dating, but they both loved each other. Neither of them admitted it though...until now. But she couldn't stop there, so she kept going, her voice cracking more and more. "And-and I'm s-saying...go-goodbye..." she couldn't handle it anymore and broke down as the doctors rushed in.
