I Love You (Hetalia)
Here's a small 'what if' for you all about a certain pair of brothers.
Ludwig stared down at the graves before him. Two were very old graves that were lucky they were still around. The other one was just place earlier that day. The last of the people had just left while he was left alone. The old two were his father and twin brothers. They had been dead for centuries. He had been a little boy when they both died. Their deaths effected him, but nothing like that of the fresh grave. He kept reading the line over and over in his mind. Roderich, Lili, Basch, and Elizabeta stood apart from him since they were the last of the guest at the moment. They were each hurt by his death, yet none of them came close to Ludwig's pain. The German's eyes filled with tears has he read the name once again.
Gilbert Beilschimdt
They were all close to Gilbert. Yet none of them had the relationship the Prussian had with his little brother. Gilbert raised Ludwig when their father died. He was always there for him. He was there when Ludwig got hurt. He was there when he was sick. He was there when he got his first girlfriend. He was there when he was bullied. He was always there for him. Ludwig could always trust his big brother to help him. He needed him.
And yet now Gilbert was gone. Ludwig could no longer go to his oldest brother and caretaker for advice. He could no longer ask Gil what he though Lud should do. He would never again hear Gilbert's laugh, him say how awesome he was, he could no longer hug him. All because of this war. If he hadn't fought in it, Gilbert would still be alive. It was Ludwig's fault Prussia was no longer around. It was because he followed that evil man that his brother was dead.
Ludwig fell onto his knees and sobbed, into the ground. He hugged the tombstone like it was Gilbert himself. He kept saying he was sorry over and over again and saying how much he loved and missed the Prussia.
Roderich and Basch walked over, tears in their own eyes. They were never that close to Gilbert, but seeing the German breaking down was too much for them. They carefully pulled Ludwig off the stone and pulled him towards home.
It would be a long time before Ludwig ever got over this death in his family.
Not going to lie, I'm crying now.
