Train To Nowhere

(Chapter 1: If you like it, tell me in the comments and I may consider making it a full blown book!)

Rachel Prince was watching the horizon at the end of the train cab. The wind blew in her long dark hair. The sensational sight and feel of being in a place where nothing could hurt you . . . it felt surreal. The term free was new to her, but hopefully wouldn't stay that way.

The cough of someone behind her caught her attention.

"Ticket?" The young man, probably not older than her, said and held out his hand. Even with the glove, Rachel could see the sleek metal sticking out. It wasn't unusual for someone to have a metal limb, but Rachel couldn't help but wonder if he had it because of an accident or because he simply wanted one.

She must have stared at it too long because he quickly covered it up and held out the other hand.

She handed him her ticket. It wasn't her ticket because people like her couldn't own anything, much less a ticket. This ticket was given to her by someone she met in an alley at C.A.M, her old home.

"New here?" He punctured her ticket and gave it back to her.
"You can tell?" Rachel was confused on how he could have figured it out by just a small conversation.

"People here never look that innocent." The young man held out his non robotic hand and she looked at it skeptically.

He seemed confused for a moment and then put his hand away.

"You're a runaway, aren't you?" He asked,

She didn't understand what 'runaway' meant, so she stayed silent.

The young man smiled, "Name's Ethan."

Rachel had a name, but she couldn't say it, so she answered with "Rachel."

Rachel was a name. Or for the regular human, a regular name. Her name was a systematic order of digits: 09292008. There were 9,292,008 of her, which wasn't odd. It was new for her to be one of a kind, but she had to admit that it was scary. Everyone here was unpredictable and she longed to see her own face. But she had done something wrong. Very wrong. And when the strange figure in the alley at C.A.M gave her the ticket, She took it without a doubt.

What was so wrong for a clone to be labeled ineffective and get 9,292,008 sames killed? She figured something out. She was at the wrong place at the wrong time and saw something.

It was a video. In the video was a creature. He had golden hair and light blue eyes. She didn't know what the creature was at the time, but had figured out later that it had been a boy. She'd never heard of boys before. There had only been her and her 9,292,008 clones.

She didn't know what was special about this boy, but she had a feeling, so here she was. On a train to Nowhere, the great city of the New Republic of The States.

She was determined to find this boy before her creators did. If the creators wanted him apprehended so badly, then she would warn him and he would help her with the one question she realized only now that she had and only he could answer.

Every clone has a purpose.
What's hers?
