To sell fish
It's a tedious life I live. Every morning without fail, I have to wake up at 6am to sell the fish that my boyfriend, Jamie, has caught the day before.
We're going to live together someday, me and Jamie. We're going to buy a big house in the city, and we can both get a well-paid job to pay the bills and save for the future. We can raise our kids there, when we have them. We just need the money.
Today is no exception to my daily routine. Wake up at six, get ready, then go and sell the fish. On a good day, we'll get about a hundred customers. On a bad day, we'll get none.
A few days ago looked like a good day. There's been quite a few of those lately, ever since we also started selling sweets. I think it's because the local children want sweets to eat whilst they play in the arcade a few streets down, so they drag their parents along to my humble street stall to force them to buy them sweets. I'd had ten of those customers already, even though it was only 11am.
Suddenly, I heard a young girl screaming at the top of her voice.
"Oh my gosh, guys! This has got to be the cutest stall I have ever seen! Just look at the candy!" She screamed at her phone at the top of her voice, now standing in front of me. She slammed a hundred pound note on the table. "I'll take all of it!"
Widening my eyes in disbelief, I took the money and quickly bagged her candy. For the first time ever, I was going to have to restock the stall! I handed over her bag, and she ran off merrily.
I didn't think much more of this incident, not until today. The day started off quite quietly, but then, the unexpected happened.
A sudden rush of customers to me off guard, all shouting about how they'd seen my stall on this girl's YouTube channel, and how they are simply dying to try some candy for themselves. I sell out within minutes! I quickly restock the stall, and the same thing happens again! This continues over and over again until I am completely out, and the rest of the crowd disappointedly leaves, promising to come back tomorrow. Note, all I am left with is one job: to sell fish.
