Angelina's unexpected joy

It was cold in Antartica. Freezing, in fact. It was so cold, that all the snow had turned to ice. There could be no more snowball fights. There could be no more snow sculptures. There couldn't even be any burying any of their friends. But none of this mattered to any of the other penguins. It only mattered to Angelina.

Angelina was the youngest penguin in her family. She loved chucking snowballs at her older brothers and sisters, and teaming up with them to bury their parents in the snow, and she especially loved impressing everyone with her shockingly good sculptures. But now, the ice had taken over, and whilst all the other penguins were laughing and playing, skiing about all over the place, Angelina sat on her doorstop, sobbing her little heart out. It was colder than usual, and all of her favourite activities had been destroyed because of this.

"Come on Angelina!" cried one of her brothers, Ned. "Come and ski with us!"

"I don't know how to ski!" She replied, feeling despondent. "I'd be useless at it, anyway!"

"You can't give up before you've even tried, silly! Come on, just give it a few minutes, and if you still don't like it, we can go inside and I'll make you a nice, steaming cup of hot chocolate." chuckled her mother.

Angelina thought about this for a moment; then, deciding she didn't have anything to lose, dried her tears and stood shakily. Then, with a deep breath, she stepped out onto the ice.

"Yippee!" She cried a few minutes later. "Woohoo! Hurrah!" Angelina was whizzing about on the ice, having the time of her life. Skiing was decidedly fun, and she was glad that she'd given in and tried it. She stayed skiing for the rest of the day, before finally retreating back inside for a hot, steaming mug of hot chocolate.
