My school has a writing competition where you write a story with 50 words or less.

I entered 4 entries, not really expecting I would win. But. Guess. What.

I came first in all of the junior school! I also got shortlisted! You have no idea how happy I was to win!!

So, here are my entries. I would love to know what you think of them!

A Dark Cloud

I awoke with a dark cloud hung over me.

It’s been like this for months now.

A constant drizzle of rain around me.

But I have to go today.

Everything has led up to this.

I must battle the cloud that’s been weighing me down for months.

I must win.

A Mask

She got out her best pens.

They’re fine point with a golden label.

Her best pencils too.

They stayed sharp for longer and easily rubbed out.

It was quick work; two sloping lines, a little colour.

She pulled it over her ears, just under her nose.

What a beautiful smile!

Over Achiever
(This one was shortlisted)

Her fingers forced themselves down on the keys at a high speed.

Cursed red underline flashed on most words, but she couldn’t stop.

She had to be the smart one.

She had to be perfect.

For if she failed, she would fall off her tower of expectations a broken girl.

Anxiety
(This is the one that won!)

The loud drum of my heart echoed in my ears.

Unneeded adrenaline painfully pumped through my veins, preparing me for danger.

Hands shook liked tremors in water.

A brick pushed down on my lungs, constricting my breath.

Head as light as a feather, swayed in the breeze.

I hate presentations.
