Ivy

He had warned her about the book. But soon it would be to late...

--------
I wandered down the street, wishing for another good book to read. Staring at the various signs as I walked past. Wishing, hoping that I might be able to find another adventure to explore. I walk on only a little way, knowing that I must turn around and head home soon, or else mother would get to worries. Last time she almost sent a search party after me.

There is only one last store on this block, I look up with immense hope. Could it possibly be? Yes. YES! There swinging in the light breeze of early April, was a sign that delicately read Mr. Linden's Book Store.

I rushed inside, my heart thumping wildly with joy. I simply needed one book, then I would head on home to settle my mother's worries. I take my money out of my pocket and count it. $3 exactly. I desperately hope that it is enough.

I wander rather quickly over to the very front table and pick up the first book that looks fascinating. "Ivy." I whisper quietly to myself.

I don't bother standing there any longer. "Mr. Linden?" I call out as I walk up to the front counter.

A stout, elderly man came out from what must have been his office. "Did you find something?" He asked bored.

"Yes I did." I replied pushing the book across the counter, along with the money.

"Is this enough?" I asked hopefully.

When he saw the book, he stared a t it for a minute in shock, befor staring up at me. "This book is not for sale." He stated rather harshly.

I looked at him with desperate eyes. "Please sir?"

"I warned you." Grabbing the money, he shoved the book at me. "Take that thing and get outta here." He roared.

I am smiling so hard that my face hurts as I rush out of the store, up the hill, and to my front door.

"I'm home!" I shout with glee.

But I only get a harsh silence as an answer.

"Strange." I said, quieter this time.

I ran upstairs, to my room, and leaped - not that gracefully - onto my bed. I was eager to start reading.

I only got up to about page ten before I fell into a deep sleep. I dreamt of vines coming out of the book. I wake up only then with a start. Looking down at the I see it coming to life.

The vines wrapped around my ankles and slowing inches their way up my legs.

"Help me." I scream. But it only echoed through the dead silent house.

The vines have now made their way up past my hips and around my waist. I am a sure goner now I think.

The vines have now started pulling me towards the book. My ankles and legs started to disappear into it. My waist then followed. Yup, a goner for sure now.

I try to wiggle out of the vines constricting grasp.

But I failed. I let the vines drag me further into the book. Poor mother and father I think. I am an only child, since my older sister mysteriously disappeared a few years back.

Mr. Linden was definitely right. The book was cursed. I should have never bought the book and just left it in that wicked shop.

I thought these things as I disappeared into a vortex, still covered in the ivy vines.

And with that, the books snapped close, and laid on my bed like nothing had ever happened.
