The World Through The Puddle

Running through the rain was always Scarlett's favourite thing to do. The rain gave her peace that no one else could give her. Her soaking black hair stuck to her face, which was a mixture of both sweat and rain. There were only a few people on the streets, but they were all running into their houses as cars drove past them, splashing water in their faces.

Turning a corner, Scarlett was running through a dark alley. Her footsteps echoed through the alley and bounced off the brick walls. She could hear the sounds of people in their apartments with their families, laughing and watching TV. Splashes of water hit her black leggings as she carried on running through the puddles. The alley was about to end, but something stopped Scarlett from ever reaching the street at the end of the alley. As her foot pounded a puddle, her whole body fell through the puddle.

Her body fell onto soft green grass that felt like her bed. Looking up, she saw a world that was not her own. A colossal castle stood before her with white walls that were as bright as the sun shining down on the building. Small windows were scattered across the walls in an asymmetric pattern. A long stone bridge joined to the castle and stood over a river of water with a waterfall at the end. At the entrance, muscular guards stood with swords in their hands and paced around the entrance. Small wooden buildings surrounded the castle ground, and people walked around with baskets of food in their arms. The tree's surrounded the village and walls of the castle. Some had purple leaves, while others had light red leaves which were like nothing Scarlett had ever seen before.  Scarlett instantly knew that this wasn't just a castle but a kingdom.

How did she get here?

That thought was interrupted by a crowd of people walking towards her, followed by huge gasps. Scarlett's eyes went wide, and her cheeks went bright red. More guards walked towards her with swords gripped tightly in their hands. People from the village were stood around, watching what was about to happen. A tall man stepped through the crowd and looked Scarlett up and down, almost as if he was studying her. His sword was bigger than the other's, and his blonde hair brushed against his face with the slight gust of wind. Standing up and brushing the dirt off her legs, she looked back at the man, refusing to feel scared.

"Who are you?" He demanded, drawing his sword out and pointing it at Scarlett.

"My name is Scarlet. What is this place?" Her voice slightly cracked as she was surrounded by strangers with no idea where she was or how to get back home. The man nodded at two other guards who grabbed Scarlett by the arm.

"Let me go!" Scarlett demanded as now she was angrier than scared, but the two guards ignored her demands. Walking behind the tall man, she noticed a scar on the back of his neck which was shaped in a circle. People stared and whispered about her as she unwillingly walked towards the castle. As the man led them into the castle grounds, Scarlett knew no one would save her. No one but herself.
