Police
My job is hard. I struggle every day because telling families that their mother, father, daughter or son is dead feels like someone is smashing my heart into tiny little pieces. I wonder if I can go on and keep doing my job. Then, reality hits me. If I didn't do my job, no one would be able to bring those families the justice and closure they deserve. Although, this time it was different. It wasn't like the other times I had to deliver the news. This time, I had to deliver it to my own family. This is what happened.
I got a call from the office saying there was a murder on the A40 and that it was urgent. It took me half an hour to arrive. There were reporters surrounding the crime scene and police officers talking to what I suppose are witnesses. I walked over to the yellow and black striped tape and saw the medical examiner looking down at the road and my colleagues taking photos of the victim. "What have we got Aaron?" Aaron was a tall person with a good, muscular and strong built. He had light brown hair that slowly moved around in the light breeze that was starting to come. He had emerald green eyes that sparkled in the sunlight. I had known him for years and was the first person that I had trusted at the police squad. Anyway, back to my story. "We have a victim named Lewis Swell, age 21 and had no siblings, but just parents. He wasn't in a relationship and from what I have found out so far, was a very likeable person at work." When Aaron said Lewis Swell, my body froze and so did my heart. I knew that name and I wished that when I looked at the body, I was wrong. If Aaron was right, then my cousin was just murdered! "Cheryl will tell the details over near the van." I looked at Aaron and said, "Thanks. Keep looking into him for me please." Aaron nodded and I walked over to Cheryl. I looked at the body she was standing over and I was shocked.
The body wasn't intact, but instead was torn apart. The arms, legs, head and the rest of the body was all torn apart from each other and was spread across the road for everyone to see. "Do we know what the cause of death was apart from everything being torn apart and how do we know it is Lewis Swell?" I asked, but I soon got the answer. Cheryl held up a head and showed it to me. The head was covered in blood, but you could still tell what the person looked like. My heart sank and my vision started to get clouded as tears started to gather in my eyes. "It was a good guess, but you were wrong. The cause of death was actually a slit around the throat," she pointed to where the throat was cut and then carried on explaining, "After that, the killer cut off the body parts and spread-ed them out. There was no finger prints so whoever this is, is a pro and very skilled." I nodded and walked away. Starting my car engine, I started to think of how I was going to break the news to my family. After a while, I arrived at Lewis's parents' house. I knocked on the door and it opened. They smiled at me, but I couldn't smile back. I just didn't have it in me anymore. "I have some bad news. It's about Lewis." Soon, the smile from his mother's face faded away and she turned around hugging her husband. She burst into tears and fell to the ground, still holding onto her husband. It hurt me to see her like this and knowing I couldn't help her, made me furious. On that day, I promised her that I would bring justice to her son and that whoever did kill Lewis would die the most painful way possible. Mo one mess with my family and gets to live!
