" Daddy!" A four year old azure hedgehog yelled as tears fell from his emerald eyes

Their house had collapsed on top of his father as the flames took hold of the building

The azure hedgehog was picked up by a violet hedgehog as she ran from a pack of robots

" ahh, it's ok, Mummy's going to get you somewhere safe " the female hedgehog said softly to the crying hedgehog in her arms

They both heard a gun shot and a body drop to the ground, the mother turned to look and tears fell, her brother in law had been shot in the head and now lays lifeless on the ground

The person who caused this all had a sick and twisted grin as he held a gun in his hand and looked towards the mother and the child

" baby I need you to run and hide " a female voice coughed out blood as she held her stomach, tears in her eyes

The small blue hedgehog nodded with tears in his eyes as he then ran towards the old bridge, that was above a raging river

He was half way across when the ropes began to snap, he looked up and gasped in fear as the person who had caused this to happen floated in front of me

" good bye rat " with that the ropes snapped and I plummeted into the water, my head hit a rock and I was knocked out

a red echidna walked by the rushing river, it was filled with debries, rope and wood

The echidna just thought the old bridge from farther down the river had finally fallen apart

But that's when he noticed one of the ends of the rope, I was cut, it had not frayed apart

"Someone must have taken it down" he mumbled to himself, but that's when he felt the chaos energy surrounding the area flared

He followed the trail, until he heard voices

"Get help Fleetway!" A voice snapped, when the echidna looked from behind a tree he saw two golden figures

"No need to find help... it's already here" 'Fleetway' stated as he turned towards the Echidna, who only gasped and jumped back in surprise

That's when there was the sound of coughing and gagging, that caught the the echidna's attention, a small blue hedgehog who looked only to be four was unconscious in one of the golden hedgehogs arms

"A Guardian...I thought they were all dead" the one with the small child in his arms stated

"Well I guess he's the last one" the other stated

"How do you kn-" "We've met your kind, the guardians from the past, we had thought they all had been wiped out, but seems we were wrong..." One of them had said

"But please...help him, he is too young and we can not stay like this any longer..." The other frowned

"Ok" the echidna nodded, he didn't understand why...but he felt as if he had to do this...not for himself or for those two, but for the small child....

"Thank you..." The one with the small hedgehog said, tears in his eyes as he stood up and walked towards the Echidna and carefully placed the unconscious hedgehog in his arms

"May I know who you both are?" The echidna asked

"No...but you will know one day, but we can tell you this, if you harm him...break his trust...or abandon him, it will be the last thing you will ever do" the golden hedgehog with the hipnotic eyes growled lowly

The echidna nodded, afraid of what may happen if any of that happen

The echidna walked into the small clay hut, the small child in his right arm and a hoverboard in his left

He placed the hoverboard besides a small table and the small blue hedgehog onto a bed made of dry grass and fabric

The echidna had bandaged his wounds and used herbal medicines to clear his lungs from the water

After a few days the hedgehog woke up in pain, he sat up but whimpered in pain, he looked around

But began to panic when he realised he had no idea where he was, but panicked more when he saw the echidna walk into the small hut made of clay, grass and sticks

"Ahh it's ok... I'm not going to hurt you" the echidna said softly with a frown

But it did not calm the frightened hedgehog, the echidna sighed and placed a basket of fruits by the hedgehog and sat on the other side of the room

The small one didn't take his eyes off the echidna, but sniffed the fruit and took a small bite, have a eyes widened and he ate more of the fruit

"You like that? You can have as much as you want" the echidna smiled slightly

"O-ok.........t-tha-ank y-you" the child spoke, but in a scratchy voice, which made the echidna frown

"What's your name?" ".....M-mau-uri-ice...." "Well, I'm Knuckles....what happened to you?" "......." "You don't have to tell me...rest ok?" "O-ok"

Knuckles watched over Maurice as he ate, and then slept, changing the bandages carefully

The two were alone on the island in the sky, though Maurice did not speak much

"Knuckles?" Maurice asked

"Yeah?" Knuckles replied as he looked at the hedgehog

"...do you...know where Stony Fields are?" Maurice frowned, Knuckles blinked

"Yeah....why do you ask?" "Can we go there....please?" "I guess, but why?" "....my parents....and my uncle....I..." Knuckles frowned as he looked at the small hedgehog, tears falling from his eyes, he knew enough

"Their gone.... aren't they?" He asked quietly, Maurice only nodded as he curled up

"Ok....let's go" Knuckles then stood up from his spot by the ancient stone stairs and waited for Maurice

"You won't leave me.....will you?" Maurice asked quietly, scared and sad

"Never" Knuckles smiled, it was true

"Promise?" Maurice asked quietly

"Promise" Knuckles smiled
