Upsetting a Dragon
Main OC: Arthur Monroe
Side OC: Miles Everbleed, Harrison Walsh
I hate writing in first person but since that's how I wrote Arthur's last piece and I had planned to describe something else, I wrote it in first person again.
This scene happened before Arthur's other story.
"Hey, Arthur!" I heard Miles call as he jogged over, the raid must have gone well if he wasn't barking orders at every person in sight.
"Hey," I said back, "Everything go well?"
"Yeah, everything was fine, just a few minor injuries, less than we planned for actually," he said and I glanced at the faint smile on his lips, it must have really gone almost perfectly if he was smiling about it, "You know, it might have gone even better if you had come along."
"No. Miles, not this again," I sighed at the topic he always brought up, "You know I don't fight. It's just...it's not what I do."
"I know," he muttered in reply, "But you're a dragon shifter. You can't deny that small battles, at the least, would go a lot better for us if you were in them."
"I know, Miles, and I'm sorry, but I'm still not fighting."
"Yeah, go ahead, just keep sitting comfortably in camp," Harrison spoke up as he walked over, the two of us never really got along and he was worse than Miles when it came to my decision to not fight, "Just let the rest of us sacrifice our lives out there."
"C'mon, Harrison," Miles sighed, "That's too far. Leave him alone."
"Or what? Is he gonna tell me about his feelings? Oh, I'm so scared," Harrison scowled.
"You'll deal with me if you don't leave him alone," Miles said.
Harrison only rolled his eyes at the threat, "Back off, Everbleed."
I could see Miles' anger suddenly well up at the comment. Everbleed may only be his last name, but it attached him to his father, and it must be hard to run a rebellion when your father is the Emperor.
"It doesn't matter what you say," I spoke up before Miles could start another fight, "I'm not going to fight."
"So, I should do more than just talk then, huh?" Harrison turned his attention back to me and suddenly gave me a hard shove, making me take a few steps back so I wouldn't fall over, "Well, I'm not the only one who should be taking action around here."
"Harrison- "
"Shoving me isn't going to change my mind," I interrupted Miles.
"Fine," Harrison growled, his fists clenched before he brought one up and landed a painful punch on my cheek.
I winced at the impact and stepped back again, my eyes widening slightly as I gently placed a hand on my cheek.
"Join the fighting, you coward," Harrison said.
I couldn't contain the anger I felt after that. I'd been hurt before, but to have someone on my side who I had hoped I could trust come up and take a swing at me had suddenly pushed me over the edge.
"You want me to fight?" I growled, "Fine. I'll started fighting."
Harrison seemed proud of himself for a moment before my own fist came up at his jaw, sending him staggering backwards. He huffed at the hit and ran at me, tackling me to the ground.
I didn't do a lot of training, so I knew I wasn't going to win this fight. Not in this form at least, so I suffered a second punch on the other cheek before I shifted into my dragon form. The sound of my shift had gotten louder when I got older, and you could hear a few cracks as my bones changed shape and size, and the green and red scales grew out.
Harrison was shoved off when I took on my dragon form and I stood from where I had been lying after being knocked down. I towered over everyone while in this form and I swung my tail to keep back the crowd that had formed around us, even pushing Miles back.
I looked down at Harrison and he sunk back in fear, but I didn't care that he was helpless against me in that moment. Instead of thinking any of it through, I sucked in as my throat heated up, and then released a breath of fire on him.
His screams pulled me out of my rage, and I snapped my jaw closed. I froze where I stood as Miles called the others to help Harrison, who was clearly barely hanging on after I'd burned him so severely.
I could see Miles stepping closer to me out of the corner of my eye as I watched them take Harrison away, but I couldn't let him too close. Not after what I had just done. I couldn't let any of them get too close, so I moved my gaze up and launched myself into the sky, flying away from the camp so I couldn't harm anyone else.
