Cry On My Shoulder

A boy stares blankly at the white paint on the brick wall. He let out a sigh. First day as a sophomore and he couldn't hate it more. "Rene..." The boy looked up, his golden eyes shining brightly. "Yes Mrs.Paker?" the boy said.

Mrs.Paker glared at the boy, whose name was Rene, before looking back down at her clipboard. "Brooke." There was silence. "Brooke." The teacher repeated, then looked up."Brooke Seradalf?"

"H-here!" A girls voice called out. Rene turned around to look at a girl with strange colored hair. She had a pair of rectangular glasses on, her polo was a purple light blue, and she wore shorts.

Rene noted how the girl next to her wasn't paying any attention to her. Everyone around her were silent as well. Rene wondered why. Mrs.Paker nodded, then proceeded to call out the next name.

Rene looked over to the boy next to him. He had dirty blonde hair and was wearing a black polo."Hey, what's with her?" he asked. The boy looked over at Brooke. "Oh, her? Yeah, she's strange. Didn't talk to anyone but her friends for like, forever up till last year."

Rene frowned."Why?" The boy shrugged."No one knows." the boy answered. Rene was about to open his mouth when a book came crashing down on his desk."If you were paying attention, Rene, you would know exactly what we're doing now."

Rene looked startled at his teacher, who glared at him before ordering everyone to stuff those in their bags. Rene did as he was told. Just as he did so, the school bell rung, indicating that it was time to eat.

He, and the rest of the class, rushed towards the door, forgetting whatever the teacher was going to say. While walking towards the cafeteria, Rene looked for Brooke. She was nowhere to be found.

He looked behind himself and found her due to her strange white hair. She was all the way down the hall. She was carrying a bag, pencils, and a notebook. Rene thought what she was doing with all that stuff.

He slowed down his pace till he was next to her."Hey." He said. The girl looked over, but only briefly. "My names Rene." He said. "Brooke." Brooke said softly, gripping her stuff hard.

Rene smiled. "What a nice name!" He said."Thank you..." Brooke responded. This, is going nowhere. Rene looked at what she was holding."Oh! You draw?" He asked. Brooke nodded her head.

"Can I see what you have?" He asked. Brooke nodded, then handed him her book. Rene blinked in confusion, then opened the book. There were rough sketches of anime looking people.

When he was done, he handed the book back to Brooke, who took it back with haste."They're cute." He said. Brooke nodded her head, saying thank you. Rene looked the other way. What's wrong with this girl?

They walked into lunch. Rene got in line, but saw Brooke walk towards a empty table. He decided to skip lunch and talk to her. He sat down across from her. She was looking down at her drawing book. She then grabbed her bag and opened it.

Rene looked puzzled as he saw her pull out a tablet."I thought devices weren't allowed at lunch." He said. Brooke looked up. She smiled."They didn't say anything about tablets. Only phones." She said.

Rene looked at her. She's clever. Rene and her sat in silence. "So...Whatcha looking at?" He asked. Silence took over Brooke. Rene frowned. He got up and moved next to her. He leaned over her device.

She was on a chat. She was talking to someone. From what he could gather, Brooke was shaming herself. And the person she was talking to was fed up with her and left the chat.

"Who's this person Brooke?" Rene asked, but all Brooke did was cover her mouth as tears began to form in her silver blue eyes."I'm terrible..." was all she could whisper.

Rene saw that she was about to cry and make a scene. He grabbed her and pulled her into a hug. He rubbed her back."Your not terrible." He said reassuring. "But you hardly know me! And my terrible personality!" Brooke cried.

Rene held her closer."Look, we might have just met, but I can already tell you are amazing. And you'll do great things when you grow up. So what if one person gets on your nerves? I'll beat them up cause your awesome from what I can tell."

There was silence from Brooke. Only sniffles and silenced cries. People began to walk towards them. They asked if she was alright and such. This only made her cry louder.

Rene broke the hug and grasped her shoulders. He gave her a warming smile."See? Your not that terrible if people care about you so much to ask you what's the matter!" he said. Brooke only stared at him, then began to tear up.

She began to cry. And people around her came up and began to hug her. Telling her that whatever she's going through, she can tell them. Telling her thst she was safe. Telling her all thar she needed to hear.

That she has a shoulder to lean on. A shoulder to cry on. A shoulder to depend on. And that shoulder are true friends.
