What Lies Beyond
The box. The door. The crumbling brick. It begged me to enter. As I walked through the viridian fields on a dreary mid autumn day, I stumbled upon this building. The building with a box that could be seen through the window, the light blue paint of the door was worn and chipped, and the bricks that made up the house where in no better condition. As I sat there I wondered. What was in the box? I approached the door and tried the handle, only to have it open as if inviting me inside. I stepped through the door way, into what I could only assume was a house.
The house itself was dead inside, the furniture had been covered in cloth, the paint and glass all but crumbled underfoot. And yet despite how dead it was, there was an aroma of liveliness. I could hear people talking and moving around, a baby cried in the corner invisible to the naked eye. I could feel people brushing beside me some walking, others dancing. I could smell food and booze, fresh cookies straight out of the oven. But then there was the box. Covered in dust, surely it must of been here for years, and yet it looked pretty and shiny and... new.
I approached the box, it had purple wrapping paper with lovely yellow stars scattered here and there. I felt like the box was talking to me saying things like 'Open me!' or 'Don't you wanna know what's inside?' It sounded like a little girls voice echoing in my head. I neatly undid the wrapping paper to reveal a ornamental black box, it had a brilliant red gem encrusted on the lock. I clicked the gemstone in and the box opened as the door closed. A bright light encompassed my vision and suddenly the house was restored. I saw people, tonnes of people dancing or talking, some sitting while others stood. I could see people at a bar in the house gathered 'round for a drink, while more people where crowded in the kitchen cooking various things.
"Hello, where did you come from?" I heard a little girls voice say, the same voice from the box. She stood there patiently, fiddling with a ribbon in her hair, awaiting my answer.
"I can't say for certain, not until to long ago this house was empty, where did the door go?" I asked the little girl, She just giggled.
"There is no door here, that's why I was confused as to how you got here." She paused for a moment before speaking again, "My name is Pandora, what's your name?" She asked.
"Nice to meet you Pandora, my name is Felix. So whats going on here?" I asked her, the only response I got was her giggling while repeating my name over and over again. "I said what's going on here." She stopped giggling.
"Today is my birthday, friends and family alike have gathered here to celebrate." I looked around and spotted a bunch of brightly wrapped gifts laying neatly stacked on a table off to the side. "And you're in luck!" She giggled "We're just about to open presents!"
"Pandora, sweetie!" An elderly woman's voice sprang. "Gift time!" Pandora led me over to where all of the gifts where scattered and told me to stay there. I'll admit I was a little bit scared, but also kind of excited. Pandora picked up a couple gifts and opened them, some where dolls, others where dresses, as well as some art supplies scattered here and there. Then came the last present. In front of Pandora stood a small gift that was wrapped in a sparkly purple with a lovely star pattern, the same one from before. Now I was panicking, was I sent back in time? None of this made sense. Pandora opened the gift to reveal the same black box from before, but now the gem was blue.
"It's lovely!" Pandora exclaimed. "This is my box! Pandora's Box!" That's when the realisation hit me. I was trapped in the Box of Demons, I was trapped in Pandora's Box. I saw Pandora click the box open, at the same time all the party-goers started screaming and screeching. One by one the patron where sucked into the little black box, I felt myself getting sucked in to. The last thing I heard before the eclipsing darkness was Pandora's voice saying "I'll see you all next year!"

I awoke in the same party room, how much time has gone by. Instead of being angry I accepted my fate and joined a group of men and women for drinks. As I surveyed my new home, I saw gifts wrapped up on a table, same as last year. Before I went to take a swig of my brink I heard her voice again.
"My name is Pandora, what's your name?" She asked some woman standing at the door... Here we go again.
