No one's POV
There once lived a man named Garrett who lived in a smaller town deep in the forest. He was an older man, so everyone in town had started calling him Old Man Garrett. Since the town had so much forestry, years ago he had started a logging company in the town. Over the years he had worked his way up, and was now the boss.
One day he bought a large plot of land on the outside of the town. The reason he bought this land was to log was because he wanted a extra route out of town, and obviously the only way to get that was to take down some trees, that way the town could pave a road. A few days before the logging started he wanted to inspect the land, just to make sure there were no problems at hand. That was the day he found what looked like an old church house.
The old man decided that it was for the best to tear the old place down, and went back to tell his men to tear it down in the next few days. Garrett had to go back and inspect the rest of the land and try to see what else stopped him from logging. Though as he found the old building again he felt that he should at least take a look at what this place was. He started waking up the cracked stone steps to the church.
He opened the doors that were hanging low from the hinges. He was greeted with scenery just like every other old building, cracked walls, rotted floorboards, and no pews? The old man looked in, confused... why were there no pews. If it were a church you have to have seats. He cautiously stepped in, making sure to not step on a rotted board. Slowly he searched the place, having a bad feeling rise in him.
As he wondered around he felt the feeling intensify, as he soon heard voices. They started out quiet, but they intensified quickly. He was now hearing screaming all around him, he fell to his knees no longer able to stand with all the pressure on his ears.
Then everything... stopped.
The terrorized old man looked up finding creatures standing around him. The faces were all different, every one of them were different, but there was one thing they all had in common. And that was the bloody faces. No matter who you looked at, all of them had blood on them. Whether it be a little or a lot, it was definitely there.
In Garrett's moment of terror he stuttered out the question that had been wondering in his mind.
"W-who are you? A-a-and what a-are you here?" He could barely be heard and the creatures just stared.
It seemed like forever as the creatures just stared at the frightened old man, he was afraid of what they were going to do to him. Finally the creatures decided to talk.
"We are those who have lived in this place for as long as we can remember." It was a taller creature, being seen as a man, with more blood than the rest on his face. "We had nowhere else to go, therefore we took shelter in this place, and must stay here forever."
The Old Man finally collected his thoughts and did the only choice he had. He talked to them. For hours he ask the creatures questions. Though in the end he had to tell these creatures what was going to happen to this building.
"I have to tear down this place, I'm afraid you're going to have to find another place to live." Garrett feared their answer and it was as ferocious as he thought it would be.
"You can not tear down this place! There is no where else for us to go! Though I guess it's in your best interest to know the consequences."
"The consequences? What do you mean?" Old Man Garrett ask as his eyebrows curled up in confusion.
"It's a curse. Come here." The creatures floated over to the far end of the building and pointed to a door. They walked in together and they found stairs leading up. Garrett followed the creatures up the stairs and beheld the gruesome sight before him. The walls where full of bloody writing. This is what it said...
"This place is full of those who have sinned. It shall be cursed to the end of its days, for the sins of its people are too great. If anyone dares put a hand to destroy this house, they shall be stuck down by the hand of God immediately."
"If you decide to tear this place down, those who dare to destroy it, die immediately. But it's up to you, Garrett." The man said.
"Well, my men have been ordered to take this place down tomorrow. I'll order them off, thank you for warning me." Garrett spoke with sadness. It was taking away his money, for he had already payed for all equipment to be hauled here tomorrow, hopefully he could get some money back.
Garrett left quickly after that and traveled back to his company and ordered a meeting immediately. He told his men what had to be done and like he expected, they were angry. Marcus, his right hand man spoke up for the group.
"If we don't tear the old place down, it's going to interfere with our work. You told us 3 days ago to take it down, we already ordered all the equipment. We can't change that now. We're just loosing money." Yet Garrett knew this, but he had no other choice, he couldn't let his men die.
"Marcus, don't you think I know that. Listen, there is a curse, these creatures led me to a wall that had the curse on. Listen up." He explained every detail of his day and his men ended up believing him after he showed a picture of the wall. They weren't happy, but they agreed to not tear the place down.
In the next few weeks the logging had started, but as the men promised, they never tore down the old building. Everyday since that day, Old Man Garrett went to see the creatures until the day he died. All the creatures had found that they were still cared for, and their blood stained faces disappeared and their happy smiles filled their faces.
Yet the Old Man was right. The curse was real, but there were certain things that were later pointed out. It wasn't a church, nowhere close. It was the exact opposite, it was a jailhouse, for those who had committed murder. If you look out back you can still see the structure of the Gallows, but no one payed any attention to them. All the creatures were killers, hanged for their crime. They were cursed by a preacher that wanted them to stay earthbound, wallowing in their sins. For years they had tried to break the curse they had put on themselves, but it wasn't until Garrett came and broke it that they were finally free. They were all finally able to Rest In Peace, as was the old man, even though he never knew he set free the spirits of the most wanted killers.
