The shadow

We all get that bad feeling when something is going to go terribly wrong, I just really wished I could be one to avoid it.

It all started the night before the appearance. I used to share a room with my sister who I have a 2 year age difference with, she used to spend her weekends and free days in our grandma's house so when her classes were cancelled it was no different. I hated going out and just spending nights in anyone else's house even if it was family so, I stayed at mine. Besides, my classes were not cancelled .

I went to sleep that night just like any other time following my face wash routine, but this time I had a feeling in the pit of my stomach as if something was going to go terribly wrong. I, of course tried my hardest to ignore it, shaking it off as just maybe my period coming along or maybe waking up late for school, anything besides addressing what I knew was coming...

That night was darker and colder than usual, just like the nights before when some random appearance would haunt me. I woke up at 12 AM and focused on anything like the walls or floor just to ignore what could possibly be watching me from the shadows or windows while making my way to the kitchen to grab some sleeping pills.

To give you an idea of what I was dealing with, my house was in a lonely hill with tall windows that looked out into our backyard which had large trees and bushes— perfect for anybody to lurk from without being noticed. We lives 10 minutes away from the neighboring houses. If anything were to happen in my house nobody could possibly hear us, not even hear our dogs barking for help if needed.

As I made my way to the kitchen without looking through the windows, I felt chills run down my body for no apparent reason which only confirmed what I knew was coming. With this in mind, I ended up running into the kitchen, downing my sleeping pills and running back to my room making sure to close my door shut behind me. It took about 5 minutes for me to fall asleep with my head spinning knowing what was to come.

My body jerked me up, making me aware of the danger I was currently in. As I opened my eyes I saw a tall figure standing in the end of my bed, watching me very carefully or at least that's what I assumed as this shadow had no face, but its body followed my movements. I thought I was dreaming or maybe my vision was just playing tricks on me as I had only just woken up, but as I stood up, feeling the cold air around me, I knew that it wasn't just my imagination and that this in fact, would be the end of me. Just as I was passing by this shadow, it attacked me and consumed my body.

I still get chills to this day telling this story, even from my grave.
