It was about a race of aliens called the Lerit who communicated by pricking each other with the long spines on their tails. One day, they made contact with a species they had never heard of before—the humans. Humans did not seem to have tails, so the Lerit assumed they were unable to communicate. They also made many seemingly-random sounds. The Lerit were a little offended—noise-making was a taboo exercise in their culture—but let it pass. They then tried poking the humans in order to interact with them, but it just made them leak red liquid and make louder noises. Finally, the Lerit gave up trying to communicate. Humans, they concluded, were just way too sensitive.
