Inconveniences
There are a lot of things we find odd about the humans on our starship. One in particular is their curious aversion to routine tasks, such as repairing breaches in the hull.
As the captain of the ship, it was my job to interrogate and chastise the offending officers. To my surprise and annoyance, one in particular—the astrophysicist, Professor Vasquez—had flat-out refused to go outside the ship without wearing a peculiar type of clothing she referred to as a "space suit". After demanding to know why we had none of these on board, she proceeded to insist that she could not leave the starship's interior without asphyxiating immediately.
I consulted with our science officer. She informed me that the fear of "asphyxiation" was the same reason why, when building these particular kinds of starships, we were required to have walls surrounding it on all sides, as well as an extraordinarily expensive amount of gasses to fill the ship. Especially if there were humans involved.
"But what IS asphyxiation anyway??" I demanded of the science officer.
"According to my research, it seems to be a variety of death."
"Death? Is that one of those irrational fears humans have too often?"
She nodded slowly. "It seems to prevent the humans from doing their designated duties."
"Well then." I let out a long sigh. "These humans sure seem to be adamant about this, don't they? If we can't get Vasquez to cooperate, we'll have to replace her."
The officer laughed. "Why do we put up with human crewmembers anyway? They're so inadequate."
"Indeed," I replied.
