"No, I can't shred this yet. What if he needs this childhood memory?"
"He doesn't, Logan. You need to let go."
It was Thomas' twentieth birthday. It was time for him to grow up. No, actually, he was supposed to grow up on eighteenth birthday, but they weren't ready. Because the four of them weren't ready, Thomas had missed the metaphorical train.
"I don't wanna grow up yet."
"Don't think of it as growing up. Think of it as taking on some more responsibilities and becoming independent."
"Can't Thomas just stay a kid?"
"Thomas isn't a kid anymore, but because of you, he'll always be a kid at heart."
"I just wanna go home, Roman. Being young is so much better."
"C'mon, Pat, home is where the heart is. Back me up, Logan."
"I..I don't know, Roman."
"You too, Logan? Think about this logically. If Thomas goes back to being a child, he'll lose all this knowledge he learned. Thomas has always been gaining knowledge cause he's always been growing up. Think of all the things he can learn in the future."
"Wow, you are right. Thank you, Roman, but I must ask, why do you care so much about this? After all, when Thomas grows up, most of his dreams will..."
"I know, Logan, but Thomas will always have more dreams. More goals for him to strive for. Growing up will only expand his horizons."
"You have really thought about this."
"I have. What about you, Virgil? You've been awful quiet."
Virgil finally looked up from the floor where he was standing. He fiddled with his sleeves, thinking, before he said a single word.
"Honestly? I'm petrified. Everyone knows young Thomas, and they think Thomas is still that way, but he's changed. He changed so much, and that disappointment scares me. If Thomas is an adult, that means so many more things to worry about, but I don't mind a few more panic attacks. Roman is right. It's time to let him grow up."
"Ready to grow up?"
They all gave Roman an affirmative nod.
"Welcome to adultery, Thomas!"
"It's adulthood!"
