Mount Eagleyed

Death.

Let's be honest, that's what we are all scared of.

It's like getting on a train, not knowing where it's taking you, the only thought in your mind is that you will never come back.

A oneway ticket, that's what what it was.

And if you ever got one of these tickets, you had two options.

The common one is to enjoy the ride. To never come back.

But the other option, the rarer option, is to jump, and wake up.

“Mum! I'm going for a walk with Tom!” Richard shouted, waiting or his mother to answer.

“Okay! Take care!”

He then headed outside the house, waiting for his friend to come and pick him up.

Once the red car appeared in the distance, he went towards the door, climbing into the passenger's seat.

“Heya, Tom!” He said, happy to see his friend after months of being apart because of the distance between the universities.

“Hi, Richard,” Tom smiled, starting the car.

They ended up deciding to go to the Eagleyed Mount, a small mountain that was known for the eagles that had lived there for centuries, and the great views you got at the top.

“So, what are you going to do this summer?” Richard asked, walking in front of Tom on the winding path to the top where a stone eagle stood.

“I'm probably going to go to Africa with my girlfriend, since she's volunteering to help the people there,” Tom looked deep in thought, a soft smile on his lips.

“Wow, hope you have a nice time,” Richard replied, unaware of the lack of attention his friend was giving him.

Around half an hour later, they had nearly arrived at the top of the mountain.

The sights were really good that day, the sun was shining and the mist that usually floated around the mountains in spring had disappeared, leaving in view all the trees and a couple of small towns. Long rivers crossed the sight, going towards the sea, it's water glistering under the bright light of the sun.

As they walked in silence, both in their own thought, Richard put his foot in a hole near the edge, the leaves from the last fall hiding it from sight.

That was when Richard received the ticket. That was the moment he got on the train.

Without warning, the floor crumbled underneath him.

The train started, the wheels turned and the whistle blowing.

He was falling, his arms flaying around, a scream caught in his throat from fear as his friend yelling in panic.

It was gaining speed, the views from Earth passing so fast it was a blur.

Each second that passed he got closer to the floor, and still he did not scream. Instead, his body had gone limp from the overwhelming fear he was feeling, his mind no longer in contact with his body.

The train continued picking up speed, the images passing across the window as a mist of thousands of different colours, nothing making sense anymore.

His body made impact.

The lifeless carcass slid down the slope, stopping as the first wails of hysterical cries left Tom’s throat.

The train was now out of sight. It had left this world, taking Richard with him, no way for him to come back.
