•Thirty-Two
"What? Why?" Jungkook asks in confusion.
"Because we can!" Yoongi exclaims.
"But there's nothing to interrogate!" Jungkook says with wide eyes. What could he have done for them to interrogate him like he was suspect of some sort? He's innocent!
"Just cooperate and things will go smoothly, Kook," Namjoon warns within the dark. "Look," Jungkook starts feeling sweat form on his temple.
"If it's about that time where Yoongi thought he didn't bring enough boxers during our camping trip then that's not true. He did bring enough, I just took the rest!"
He felt a bit at ease after saying those words. He didn't realize how relieving it takes some weight off his chest. Yoongi stares at him, processing his words. He blinks a few times before clearing his throat.
"Wait, you took my boxers?" He questions in disbelief. "You're the reason why I went commando for a week?!"
Jungkook quickly averts his eyes feeling a bit nervous now. "W-well I didn't bring enough so--"
"So you took mine? Do you not know how uncomfortable it is to wear pants and nothing else?!" Yoongi shouts with anger flaring in his eyes.
"But it was only for that week!" Jungkook defends. "I made sure to wash them before giving it back to you."
"I could be wearing the boxers that you borrowed!" Yoongi shudders, "Disgusting!" He suddenly disappears from the light with a shake of his head.
"I'm sorry, Yoongi I just needed boxers! I thought you wouldn't mind!" Jungkook shouts to the darkness. He hears sighs around him before the lights suddenly turn on.
He then realized they were all in a kitchen, but it wasn't just any kitchen. It was Jin and Namjoon's. He sees his friends standing before him with disappointed expressions.
"What?" Jungkook asks.
Hoseok lets out a sigh, "Well, I didn't see that coming."
"Neither did I." Jin agrees with a frown. In fact, everything could've gone smoothly if Jungkook never said a word. Suddenly feeling self-conscious and embarrassed Jungkook accusingly glares at them with his cheeks puffed out.
"Don't judge me! I had no choice!" He shouts while turning his head to the side. "I just needed boxers!"
"Okay, okay no one's judging you, Kook," Namjoon says calmly. "Don't feel embarrassed."
Jungkook crosses his arms feeling his cheeks heat up. "Whatever. What's with this whole interrogation thing anyway?"
Jin lets out a sigh, "We just have questions to ask you. Well, they do." He gestures to the rest of the guys. Jungkook raises a brow in questioning.
"Okay. . .? What is it?"
Hoseok's face suddenly becomes stern as he crosses his arms. "Is there anything that you're keeping from us?"
"No, there isn't," Jungkook answers instantly.
"Really? Nothing at all?"
"Yes. Why are you looking at me like that?"
"Because," Yoongi begins as he circles around Jungkook like a predator who's about to pounce on its prey. "You can be lying to us right now."
"Lying about what exactly?" Jungkook questions.
"Oh, I don't know. Why don't you enlighten us, hm?" Yoongi says firmly. Jungkook looks at him flabbergasted and throws his hands in the air.
"How am I supposed to when I don't know what you're talking about?!" He exclaims. He has no idea what they're getting at. And frankly, it was starting to get annoying. Can't they just cut to the chase?
He hears Namjoon sigh and looks at him. "We want to know if we can see the girl you claim to like." He says finally. Jungkook blinks before looking to the side.
"Why?" He asks slowly.
"Because we don't believe you," Hoseok states. Jungkook slowly looks at him, "Excuse me? Did you just say you don't believe me?"
"Yeah, he did." Yoongi answers.
Jungkook scoffs, "This is stupid. Why in the world would I lie about something like this? She is real and I'm not some weird creep that'll make up a girl to fit in."
"We didn't say that you are one, Jungkook," Jin jumps in.
"But you're implying it!" Jungkook snaps. "She is real and I'm telling the truth!"
"Then why can't we see her?" Hoseok questions.
"Because I don't want to show you."
"Why not?"
"I just said that I don't want to! It's my business!"
"Is it because it's Jisun?" Yoongi asks loudly.
The kitchen suddenly became silent, letting the question float in the air. Everyone has their eyes firmly on their friend in the chair. They watch as his expression turn from shock to dark. His eyes narrow and he looks down at his hands that rested on his lap.
"No," he finally answers. "It's not."
Yoongi rolls his eyes, "You're such a liar, Jungkook. Just come out with it already."
"We already know you like her," Hoseok adds. Jungkook looks up with a glare at the two. "What makes you think I do?" He asks lowly.
He had a bad feeling about this. A part of him doesn't want to know how they figured it out. He just prayed that he wasn't being obvious before whenever he was around her.
"Jin told us," Namjoon informs.
Jungkook lets that all sink in. He felt betrayed, humiliated. His blood began to boil as red hot anger began to run through his veins. He stands up with such force causing the chair to fall over.
"You told them!?" He yells. God he couldn't believe him, he was the only one he trusted with this forbidden secret of his. Now everyone knows.
"Technically I didn't say anything, Taehyung did. I just confirmed it." Jin says simply ignoring Jungkook's anger. He could handle it, he knew he would get upset about this.
Jungkook curses Taehyung loudly as he stomps his foot. He should've known, Taehyung was nothing but a two-sided backstabber.
"We were bound to find out sooner or later, Kook." Namjoon points out. "You make things pretty obvious."
Jungkook's cheeks flare as he chews the inside of his cheek. He refuses to speak, it'll only make matters worse. His friends stare at him for what seemed like hours before hearing Namjoon letting out a sigh.
"So, are you still going to refuse and say you don't have feelings for her or are you going to be mature and own up to it?"
Jungkook still doesn't answer and narrows his eyes. How can he still refuse? They were on to him and if Taehyung already said it and Jin confirmed it then there's no way he can still act dumb and say no. He clenches his fists tightly feeling his cheeks become heated once more.
"Yes," he confesses. "I do like her."
The silence was laid between all of them. He could feel their blank stares even though he didn't look. He wondered if they were judging him silently or feeling ashamed to have a friend like him. Suddenly he felt an arm around his shoulders pulling him closer.
"Ah, we knew it, Kook!" Hoseok grins happily. "You're so cute!"
Jungkook blinks in surprise with his mouth agape. Yoongi's tight and stern expression slowly melts as a slight smile appears on his face.
"You know, I was ready to pummel the truth out of you." He jokes.
"What?" Jungkook breathes.
He couldn't believe it, they weren't mad. He never expected them to act like this. Let alone they seem to be fine with his feelings.
"Why are you guys smiling?" Jungkook asks in confusion. "Aren't you mad?"
Namjoon chuckles with his arms crossed, "Now why would we be mad?" With everyone's eyes on Jungkook, he felt self-conscious and quickly looks down while pushing his pointer fingers together in a nervous motion.
"Because I'm her best friend and all. . .so I thought maybe you'll find it weird or something," he mumbles softly. His greatest fear was them finding out. He knew it would happen but he didn't realize it would be now.
He had no idea how to explain himself let alone knowing how to act like he wasn't ashamed of himself. But they were acting in a way that he never anticipated, so he had no clue what to do.
"I don't find it weird," he hears Jin say thoughtfully. "If anything, I find it to be the most adorable thing ever."
Jungkook shoots up his head and sees Jin giving him a grin with his head tilted. "Yeah, me too!" Hoseok chimes in and tightens his arm around Jungkook's shoulders.
"I mean, at first I was surprised but after thinking about it I understand why you would like her."
Jungkook raises a brow, "You do?"
He nods, "Of course! She's funny, smart, caring, kind, beautiful than any girl we met, and she's awesome to have around!" He exclaims.
Still, a frown forms on Jungkook's face. "But aren't you guys afraid that I might do something? Aren't you afraid that I might hurt her like Taehyung?"
When the guys don't answer and give him a frown instead, he got his answer. He heaves a heavy sigh and droops his head. He knew it. They were wary about his secret.
Then he feels a hand gently grabbing his own. He looks up to see Namjoon staring at him with gentle eyes. "Let's talk in the living room," he says softly.
Jungkook allows himself to be lead into the living room and be seated on a couch. They all situate themselves comfortably around their young friend but with Jin at his side. They awaited their conversation to begin. Being a natural at taking the lead Namjoon decides to speak up first.
"Jungkook, we know you won't hurt her. We trust you completely but we're naturally wary about the idea of you and Jisun possibly dating."
"It's not because we don't want you to," Jin adds quickly while placing an assuring hand on Jungkook's knee. "It's because of him, Jungkook. We don't want to go through that again."
"You know how it almost tore our friendship apart," Hoseok mumbles with a frown.
Jungkook knew all too well, he wouldn't forget how he stood by Jisun's side during it all. He wouldn't forget how he yelled at Taehyung with so much hate and disappointment yet he didn't do anything and laughed instead. He understood their wariness, he would feel the same.
"I'm not him," Jungkook says softly. "I'll never be him."
"We know, Kook. But we're just saying, if this goes further then you have to promise us that she won't get hurt." Yoongi tells him.
Jungkook couldn't help but scoff at that. "That's a stupid promise to make when it won't go anywhere."
Jin begins to frown, he didn't forget the conversation they had back at Hanok. "You still don't want to do anything about Taehyung?" He asks.
"What do I do exactly, Jin?" Jungkook questions back with a look. "They're a match made in heaven. She's beautiful beyond compare and he's attractive as any man can get. They've always been a perfect match since high school. I told you, she doesn't like me like that. I'll just be in the way."
"If they're such a perfect match then why are they not together anymore?" Namjoon questions with his arms crossed.
Jungkook doesn't answer and bites the inside of his cheek instead. Touché.
"And how do you know how she feels? Did she tell you?"
"No," Jungkook mumbles.
"Exactly, so you have a chance. You just need to tell her." Jungkook stares at his friend before shaking his head with a scoff.
"I'm not telling her."
"Why not?" Hoseok pries. "I'm sure you liked her for a long time, right?"
Jungkook contemplated for a moment. He knew he didn't just like you, he loves you. You were everything to him and a reason why he thought he had a meaning in this world.
He honestly doesn't know when he started to develop these feelings. It could've been when you were about to leave Korea, or when he started high school, or long before that. He wasn't sure but he knew he felt this way for a long time.
"Yes, I have but I still won't do it," Jungkook says firmly. "I already told Jin this and I'll tell you all the same; I give up."
His friends seem to be disappointed by his answer and begin to shake their heads. Jin looks at him in concern, was he the only who could see the lies through his eyes?
He knew Jungkook didn't want to but he was forcing himself to. He doesn't know why and wishes Jungkook could for once tell them his troubles. It would make things a bit easier on their end.
"Jungkook, you don't have to give up," Jin says. "We'll help you and--"
"No, Jin! I already said I won't do it!" Jungkook snaps suddenly feeling angry. Jin jumps in surprise at the volume of Jungkook's voice but doesn't retract his hand from Jungkook's knee. He simply stares at him with a frown.
"She has Taehyung and she's happy, end of the story. Now stop bothering me about my feelings and drop it already!" Jungkook shouts.
An uneasy tension clouds the air around them all as Jungkook's friend suddenly feels as if they somehow crossed a line. They looked at each other one by one in wariness.
Jungkook couldn't take this anymore, he needed to get out of here and get some air. He quickly stands up and makes it for the door.
"H-hey, where you going??" He hears Yoongi shout for him. "To get some fresh air!" He shouts back before slamming the door behind him.
The guys let out a tired sigh and relax their tense bodies. This didn't go the way they planned it. "Well, that sucked." Hoseok's grumbles with his arms crossed.
"Tell me about it. Jungkook didn't like how we breached subject on him telling Jisun his feelings." Yoongi states.
They all sit in silence as they playback the conversation they had minutes ago. They didn't feel bad for making Jungkook upset, he just overreacted that's all.
"He wants to tell her, you know," Jin mumbles in thought.
"He just said he doesn't want to," Namjoon replies with a flat look. "He said he'd given up."
Jin straightens his back with his arms crossed. "He's only just saying that because he thinks he doesn't have a chance. But deep down he really wants Jisun to know his true feelings." He says.
That must be the reason why Jungkook said all that. It makes sense. He thinks Taehyung is better suited for you.
Yoongi pushes out his bottom lip in thought until he quickly snaps his fingers. "Then we just show him that he definitely does have a chance," He suggests. "Then he can tell her."
The rest of them think for a moment. They each slowly nod their head in agreement, grateful that Yoongi for once thought of something smart and clever. Slowly, a mischievous smirk appears on Namjoon's lips.
"I have the perfect plan for this operation."
