•Sixty-Nine
So sorry that it's long! ><
He found himself standing alone under the dark blue, night sky. The sounds of a bustling city rang thorugh his ears with a cold breeze sweeping through his red flannel and white shirt causing the young man to lightly shiver at the feeling.
He stares blankly at the scenery before him, his doe eyes watching the bright lights of towers sparkle in the night. The view was breaththaking, it was like staring at bright, dazzling stars.
Jungkook wondered how he was able to gaze at such a view though. He blinks once before looking down at his feet. He realizes he was atop a building while hundreds of feet above ground.
He stood atop a thin layer of concrete, one misstep he would surely fall. Yet, that thought didn't bother him as much.
With a small smile he raises his arms until they made a horizontal line and began to walk slowly, placing one foot in front of the other. He stops until he reaches the edge of the building and drops his arms with a sigh.
Jungkook's mind was free from dark thoughts. His heart was calm with no pain being inflicted upon it. He felt whole again like he was his normal self once more. Breathing became easy, it was wonderful for the young man to take in a deep breath without wincing.
A warm smile spreads across Jungkook's rosy lips with a strong euphoric feeling. He closes his eyes spreading his arms wide enjoying this incredible sensation. It was amazing, not once did this emotion rush through his veins so incredibly as it did now.
In Jungkook's mind he wondered why he felt this happy. Maybe it was because the nice, cool breeze brushing through his hair. Or maybe it was the sparkling city lights surrounding him. Or maybe it was the simple fact that he could breathe.
Slowly he opens his eyes admiring the city once more. He wishes to share this wonderful feeling with someone. He didn't mind standing here alone, but there was part of him that craved for someone's presence beside him.
He glances over his shoulder gazing at the flat rooftop of the building hoping to see all his friends there silently watching him with smiling faces. He was hoping to see you. But the rooftop was dark and empty, there were no signs of anyone he knew.
Disappointed, a small frown replaces his smile and he turns back to the scenery.
No matter, he thinks. It's just simply nice to stand here and admire the view.
But as time slowly passes his mind starts wandering to you. He wondered what you were up to and why weren't you here with him. Surely, he didn't come here all on his own, you had to tag along.
As hard as he tried he couldn't remember how he got here nor why was he here. It seemed strange to end up atop a building with no memory of how.
Where were you?? Why weren't you here with him? His strong euphoric feeling disappears from his veins as it becomes replaced with an emotion of panic.
He suddenly felt like a helpless child lost in a crowd. The urge to have you beside him overwhelms his heart making him feel a small twinge of pain in his chest. He turns around and starts to scan the rooftop hoping his mind was playing tricks on him.
Unfortunately, it wasn't. You were truly not here.
"Jisun," he calls in a wavering tone.
"Jisun? Are you here?" He shouts once more earning him yet another wave of silence.
Fear layers his eyes with his need to see you growing stronger with each passing second. Frantically he shoves his hands into his pockets intending to grab his phone. But his fingertips graze against something thin and flimsy.
He pulls out his left hand and sees a piece of paper between his fingertips. Curious, he unfolds the paper and sees your handwriting. Only two words were written in blank ink.
I'm sorry.
Jungkook stares at the words for a long moment wondering what they meant. What were you sorry for?
He turns back to city and stares with troubled eyes as he holds the small piece of paper tightly.
Were you sorry because you weren't here with him?
\/\/\/\/\/
Jungkook's eyelids slowly flutter open releasing him from the happy yet troubling dream. He stares up at the white ceiling with a blurry vision. He blinks a few times processing his thoughts as he attempts to sort between dream and reality.
When he realizes he was now back in reality a small frown forms on his lips. He was back in the hospital room, alone on his bed. He tries to move and found it harder than before.
A low groan emits from his lips when a strong stabbing pain shoots through his entire body. He quickly places a hand over his chest with a small grimace upon his face.
Damn, he curses. Why the hell does it hurt this bad?
He hears the door across the room softly slide open as if whoever was opening it was afraid of disturbing him. He glances to the door and sees Jimin enter wearing his over-sized black sweater with his hands stuffed in its pockets.
A deep frown was spread across his plump lips, his eyes downturned to the floor. His cheeks gleamed in the light, they were wet from the tears that had flowed freely minutes ago. Jungkook raises a brow in concern not understanding why Jimin looked upset.
He notices that his friend's features were pale and emotionless like someone sucked the life out of him. What could have caused him such agony?
"Jimin?" Jungkook calls in a raspy voice.
Instantly Jimin's head raises revealing his bloodshot eyes. Jungkook's eyes widen in shock and he quickly attempts to get out of bed hoping to reach his hurting friend.
"Jungkook, please don't do that." Jimin warns as he quickly makes his way to Jungkook's side. He gently helps him into a sitting postion instead ignoring Jungkook's worried stare.
"What's wrong?" He questions with a frown.
Jimin doesn't answer immediately with his attention on fixing Jungkook's sheets. "How do you feel, Kook?" He asks dodging Jungkook's question.
Jungkook frowns wondering why he wouldn't answer him. "Hurting more than before," he admits softly taking his eyes off his friend.
Jimin nods solemnly, "You should get some rest."
Jungkook glances at Jimin's side before looking to his right at the empty chair beside his bed. He wondered where you were, you never left his side before. It was odd for him to only see Jimin here without you sitting by his side.
He pondered at the idea of you possibly going to get something to eat or use the restroom but despite those thoughts his desire to see you was strong. He wondered if it was due to the dream he had. He looks back at Jimin with a raised brow.
"Hey, where's Jisun?"
Jimin's body stiffens at the sound of your name and averts his gaze. Jungkook awaits patiently for an answer and cocks his head with a frown.
"Jimin?" He questions.
Jimin shakes his head while taking in a deep breath. Slowly he glances to Jungkook with a slack expression, his eyes layered with sadness. He doesn't answer him and takes out a folded piece of paper from his pants pocket.
Jungkook stares at it in questioning as he grabs the paper. "What's this?" He inquires with a frown.
"Read it," Jimin instructs gently.
Jungkook shifts his stare from Jimin to the paper multiple times hoping to understand what was going on. But he was puzzled as ever with a sense of Deja Vu filling his mind. Warily he unfolds the paper and begins to read.
Jungkook,
This is difficult for me to write but there was no other way you could get the explanation you deserve.
I'm sure the transplant was a success. I mean, why else would you be reading this?
I can imagine you furrowing your eyebrows in confusion at what you just read and you're not seeing things. You read it correctly.
You had a successful lung transplant.
I know in the past Dr. Chen had told you there were no donors present with the same lungs but he was mistaken. There was one person. And I am proud to say it was me.
I couldn't stand the idea of watching you die, Jungkook. When you went into shock I was sure my life was coming to an end because there was a chance you wouldn't be part of it anymore. And it pained me more than anything to see you die without reaching the dreams you believed in since we were children.
I had to do something. I couldn't sit around and watch you helplessly. So, I checked my file and found out you and I were a match.
Amazing, isn't it? Who would've thought you and I who spent our entire lives together would have the same lungs?
It was a chance I had to take, it was the only way you would live on, Jungkook.
It was too much for his mind, his thoughts start to swirl endlessly making it impossible to process what he just read. Jungkook's gaze becomes unfocused with his heart beating violently against his chest. He didn't understand. A transplant?
He throat begins to clamp tightly with his lips becoming chapped and dry. Gradually, he glances up at Jimin with his expression blank and his eyes dull.
"I--I don't understand . . ." he murmurs.
"Jisun, gave you her lungs," Jimin answers in a soft tone unable to look into his friend's devasted gaze. "She sacrificed her life for you."
Jungkook wordlessly stares at Jimin feeling his body going cold with a dull ache spreading over him. It had seem like a part of him was ripped ruthlessly apart.
There had to be mistake. There was no way you would've done this and if you did then you wouldn't have been this stupid to give him both your lungs.
"This is a mistake . . ." Jungkook breathes with a shake of his head.
"But . . . it isn't," Jimin murmurs weakly. "Jungkook, she--"
A loud shattering noise pierces Jimin's ears causing him to wince. Jungkook had grabbed the flower vase beside him and threw it as hard as he could at the wall across from him.
"NO, SHE DIDN'T!!" Jungkook yells angrily with his nostrils flaring.
He stares at the shattered pieces of the vase that littered the floor as well as the white chrysanthemum flowers he gave you. He didn't speak for a while allowing the anger inside him dwindle into nothing but a small ember in his heart. He was sure his heart shattered along with the vase for there was nothing in his chest but a crushing-like sensation.
His bottom lip trembles as he slowly shake his head in denial. "No," he says once more in a hurt tone. "She didn't have to do this."
He drops his head with his shoulders hunched as tears fell endlessly down his cheeks. "She didn't have to . . . She didn't . . ." His voice trails off into a heartbreaking sob.
Jimin listens to his wails and rapid breathing silently willing himself not cry too. He clenches his fists tightly while pinching his lips togehter.
"Jungkook," he starts as gently as he could. "She loves you. She would've done anything for you."
"But why both lungs?" Jungkook agonizes with his entire body shaking violently. "Why couldn't she have given me just one??"
Jimin sighs with a small frown, "She didn't want to, Jungkook." He answers. "She wanted you to be strong and healthy with no setbacks."
Hearing his words made Jungkook sob even more as places his hands over his eyes. The pain all over his body didn't decrease, instead the pain had increased to something intolerble for the young man.
Wails escapes his lips as he sat on the bed crying like a child. He didn't know long he was crying, it felt like hours though. His eyes were dry with no tears running down his face.
Only his hypervenilation was heard throughout the room. His eyes were puffy and red with his cheeks gleaming from his tears. His bottom lip still trembles when he realizes he had crumpled your letter.
He slowly opens it realizing you had wrote some more. He attempts to read the best he could with his blurry vision.
I'm sorry things had to go this way, Kookie. And I'm sorry I won't be there on the days where you need me. But you deserve to live your life.
You deserve to love it all again and reach your dreams. I want you to become a singer like you always wanted and live with passion. And I know you don't like music right now but I know you will soon in the future because that's who you are.
Jungkook, you mean the whole world to me. Without you my life would be without color and I'm grateful I got spend my days with you. I love you too much which was why I did this.
You are my best friend and my soulmate, and I wish every ounce of happiness in the world for you because you deserve it all.
Reach your dreams, Kookie. Never give up on what you love and always do your best.
Always yours,
Jisun
Jimin silently watches Jungkook read the last parts of your letter when something catches his eye. He turns to his right to see a folder upon the bedside table. Gently he picks it up and opens it.
His eyes widen in surprise as he sees what was written on the pages. He couldn't believe what he looking at. Did Jungkook actually write all of this?
He glances up at his friend who still stared at your letter with a small yet sad smile upon his lips.
"Jungkook, did you write all of this?" He asks in surprise.
Jungkook didn't have to look to know what he was talking about and gives him a silent nod. Jimin looks back at it feeling his heart ache.
"Was it for--"
"Yes," Jungkook murmurs while clasping the small picture of you and him hugging each other while grinning at the camera.
"I wrote that song for her."
