Lily ran ahead of Francis, giggling. "You can't catch me!" She exclaimed, sticking her tongue out at him. Francis' eyes narrowed, running faster. Lily shrieked, turning around and bolting towards the tree house. "I'm gonna win~!" She teased, jumping onto the rope ladder and starting to climb. She was about to reach the top when she felt something tug on her foot, making her lose her grip.

Everything seemed to slow down as she fell, twisting in the air. She glimpsed Francis as she fell, surprise and concern all over his face as he let go of her ankle. She closed her eyes afterwards, preparing herself for the impact.

She hit the ground, feeling a rock hit the middle of her spine. She heard a CRACK as her body flopped to the ground. She laid there for a few seconds.

Then the pain kicked in.

She cried out, calling for her parents. Tears streamed down her face as she called more times. Her eyes were still closed, but she felt her father's strong grip feeling her arms and legs, checking for injuries. She was dimly aware of her body being put on a stretcher as the paramedics escorted her to the ambulance, people assuring her that it was going to be okay. She opened her eyes for a few seconds, just long enough to see Francis' anguished, tear-streaked face as the doors closed to the ambulance.

Lily woke up later in the hospital. She heard unfamiliar voices speaking.
"We don't know how she's going to function." One voice said. "She's only 8 years old." Another voice continued. "But we do know that she is going to be paralyzed for the rest of her life."

It was at that moment the Lily realized she couldn't feel her legs. Gasping, she opened her eyes. She was in a hospital room, surrounded with medical equipment. Two doctors and her parents were in her room. They were looking towards her with surprise and concern all over their faces.

  "My legs!" Lily screamed. "I can't feel my legs!" The doctors rushed over, hushing her. Her parents come over as well, patting her arm and kissing her on the head. Lily cried, covering her face, mumbling "my legs" over and over until she passed out from exhaustion.

  When she woke up again, her parents and the doctors were gone. She sat up in her bed, looking around. It took her a few minutes to realize that Francis was hunched over, whimpering in the corner. He must've heard her sit up, because his head shot up, his hand immediately reaching up and wiping tears from his face. "Hey Lily." He said, smiling weakly. "Hey Francis." Lily answered back. They sat there awkwardly for a few minutes, before he walked up and sat on the edge of her bed.

  "So," he said sadly. "I heard you were paralyzed.."
 

 "Yeah.." Lily answered, taking the blanket off  to show him her useless legs. He looked at them for a few minutes before breaking down into tears. "Francis!" Lily exclaimed. "What's wrong?" He looked up at her, whimpering. "It's all my fault!" He screamed. "I pulled your ankle! I made you fall!" His face contorted in anger. "I RUINED YOUR LIFE!" He jumped off the bed, about to walk out of the room. He was opening the door when a shoe came flying past his face. He turned around to see Lily, barefoot, holding her other shoe. "You did NOT ruin my life!" Lily screamed. "Do NOT blame yourself!"

Francis closed the door softly. He walked over to her, wrapping his arms around her and pulling her close. "I'm sorry..." He said. "I just hate to see you like this."
Lily hugged him back, smiling. "Well," She said, "You know what they say!" Francis pulled away from her. "Don't do it." He warned. She giggled. "But Francis! You know how egg-celent my puns are. Telling me to stop will just egg me on." Francis facepalmed. "Stop. Please."
"C'mon Francis! Donut glaze over this situation."
Francis smirked. "How I like to spend my time is nacho business."
