❀ 3- The Promise
"Ah! Welcome to our home!"
My mother stood in the front as she greeted the mom and the dad of the new family. My father went ahead and hugged the dad, and I now truly believe that they were close friends from awhile back.
"Oh my... who is this girl here?" The mother greeted me, and I faked a smile and bowed. She gasped, and turned and looked at my mom. "I didn't know your daughter was so pretty!"
It sure felt nice to be complimented, and I couldn't help but feel the love.
"Thank you..." I say, bowing. She smiled warmly at me, and squeezed my hand.
"She is very kind, I could tell very well."
I'm kind? Let me just laugh at what she said at the,"I could tell very well" part.
"She is." My mom said shortly, while giving me this look and I made a face before turning back to smile at the lady who smiled back at me.
"Well my dear, you can call me Mrs. Kim. And your name?"
"Hyeri." I answered.
"That's a very lovely name." She commented.
"Well, I would like you to meet my son." She said, and moved out of the way to reveal him standing a little awkwardly near outside my door steps.
He looked up first at my parents and bowed, but when he looked up at me, his eyes widened a little, but he ducked a bow.
"Introduce yourself, honey." His mother said to him, and he walked inside the house.
"My name is Kim T-Taehyung." He stuttered a little.
I wanted to just roll my eyes, but my mother nudged my side.
"I heard that he was going to the same school as her." His mother said, and I looked at him, and he lowered his head. Did he tell his parents about me? Oh geez.
"Ah really?" My mother said in a surprised tone. "What year is your son in?"
"In year 3." His mother replied.
"My daughter is in year 3 too! Do you two share any classes?" My mother pointed at me, then to him. I shook my head no but he shook his head yes.
"Ah you do?" My mom said, a little confused.
I sighed, letting him answer. "Yes Mrs. Lee."
"My son is actually a year younger than his grade level." Mrs. Kim explained, and he touched rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly as his mother began to brag about him.
I watched him, and he met my eyes a couple times before he would look away, like he always did every single time. I smirked, and looked away.
Soon, my mother invited the family into the dining room where the food was already set. When Mrs. Kim came in, she smiled as she smelled the food.
"It smells so good in here! I'm excited for the food you have prepared for us."
"Yes! Thankfully, my daughter helped me prepare it." My mother said as she headed into the kitchen, leaving me, Mrs. Kim, my father and Mr. Kim, who were heavily engrossed in a conversation to notice we were about to sit down.
"Why don't you sit in front of each other? You know, to get to know each other better." Mrs. Kim said, and nudged him on the side.
I watched as he nodded, and walked to the other side of the table, and sat down in the chair directly in front of me.
We said nothing.
While in the middle of eating, his father turned our way, seeing how we weren't talking to each other at all. "Sorry about my son. He tends to get very quiet when he's around a girl-"
"Appa!" He said in embarrassment, interrupting his dad.
The whole table lit up in laughter, except for the two of us.
"Come on, Taehyung-ah... Say something to her." His mother said, pressing him on.
I saw how he was in a very awkward and embarrassed state, so I felt like I needed to intervene.
But right when I was about to open my mouth, he looked up at me in the eyes and spoke.
"I was just telling you what I liked best on you."
My mother, and his mother turned their heads our way, not knowing what that meant, but I on the other hand, knew exactly what he meant.
About my hair and how he said earlier how he preferred long hair on me.
I grabbed my glass of water, and drank it while I stared at him, and placed it back on the table. I think he had some courage to keep on staring back at me like he wasn't scared of me or something.
"Well I don't want you too." I said sternly, and cocked my head to the side.
"Kids, what are you two talking about?" My mother asked first, staring at the two of us. His mother was staring at us also, not knowing what was going on.
"Something that is not important." I say, and he scoffed.
"Anyways, I think I lost my appetite. Please excuse me from the table." I say while I got up, and walked towards the front door, and walked out with everyone staring at me.
I walked outside in the night, and took my phone out and began to text Yura about the kid who came to my house for dinner. She texted back asking why he was there, and I told her how my dad was friends with his dad and all that.
The front door opened, and I turned to see him walking out of the door, and I groaned and put my phone back into my pocket, and began to walk off before he gets to me.
"Hyeri, wait up,"He called me back, but I kept on walking.
He jogged up towards me, and reached out and grabbed my shoulder.
I stopped, and turned around, facing him.
"Sorry, your mom told me to come tell you to come back." He said, looking back at me with some sort of expression like he was worried as he placed his hand on my shoulder.
I didn't care about that though. I shrugged my shoulder from under his hand, and looked back at him my eyes filled with daggers.
"Don't touch me ."
He was taken aback, and he took a step away from me.
"Sorry..." He just said, but he still looked at me with that same worried expression.
"You have nothing to be sorry about." I say shortly and fixed my shirt, feeling the cold night breeze against my skin. "besides, you didn't have to come out here to get me. You can go back. Or just go home. Either way I don't care what you do."
He didn't say anything to what I said, but his eyes were down where my arms were. I looked down and saw there were goosebumps all over my arms.
He began to take off the jacket he was wearing, and offered it to me.
"I see that you're cold.. you should take it" He said softly.
"I don't want it." I say, looking at it, and then back at him. "Did you not just hear what I just said earlier? I told you to go back home."
After a moment of just staring at me without saying anything, he took a step forward, and placed his jacket around my shoulders, and I looked at him with wide eyes.
"I could tell you are feeling cold, so you need it." He said in an even softer voice.
I just scoffed. "I didn't ask for it."
"But you need it."
He said, and I frowned at him.
"Will you stop looking at me like that? It's really weird." I say, but yet he kept on staring at me.
"Stop it..." I commanded him.
When he still didn't listen, I just sighed.
I took out my phone, and took a picture of myself in front of him. I showed it to him, and pointed at it."Do you want it? You can keep it as your lock screen wallpaper on your phone."
He just stared back at me with that blank expression of his.
"Oh? So you don't want it? I'll guess I'll put my phone back in my pocket then." I say, and began to put my phone back into my pocket when he began to mumble something.
I sighed, "right about time... what did you just say?" I asked him, having fun with this.
"I don't want it." He said.
"Um okay? Then why do you keep on staring at me without saying anything?"
"Because I like you."
He simply stated as he shrugged his shoulders.
What? Did I just hear him wrong?
"Um... why?" I asked as I crossed my arms together. I figured that he did, by the way he keeps on looking at me with that lovey dovey expression in his eyes, but I was a little surprised how quick his confession was.
"Because I like it when you smile, It makes you look cuter."
"When did you see me smile?" I asked him, and he twisted his mouth a little.
"This morning... when you were talking to your friends in the schoolyard."
"I see. But, why do you think I look cute when I smile?" I say, raising my eyebrows.
"Because..." He started, and I could tell he was getting flustered by my question back at him.
"B-because I think when you smile, you look better when you don't smile."
The look in his eyes were very sincere and truthful, so I couldn't laugh at this situation much.
"Well, whatever that meant but um... sucks for you but I think you should like another girl instead of me." I said, and his eyes widened.
"Why?" He asks innocently.
I gave him a long look before answering.
"Because I don't think I'm that type of girl who you should like." I said, lowering my voice as I took several steps towards him.
"I don't smile very often."
He shrugged. "But I'm not going to say sorry that I like you though."
"Whatever you say, like me all you want. But it's you who's going to keep on getting the heartbreak. Just warning you." I say to him, and winked.
"I'm up for the challenge." He said with determination in his voice as he put his hand up in the air.
"I'll do my best to win your heart."
"What is this?" I say, covering my mouth with my hand as I looked at his hand. What is he doing? He couldn't be serious right?
"I promise I will fight for you, and make you my girlfriend." He said like he was a soldier swearing on his life to protect and love his country as he got down on one knee, and placed a hand out.
I looked down on him, as many thoughts ran around in my head. Like the main one.
What is he doing?
"I already told you though. I won't like you. But whatever you say. You can try as hard as you want. You'll not win." I say without much of a care, and also put my hand out, and we shook hands.
He pulled my hand towards his lips, but I pulled my hand back.
"Don't you dare even try that,"
I say to him, and for the first time since I've met him, a smile appeared on his lips.
