chapter 5 (4)

Since that fateful day, the eldest brother and the youngest sibling often heard strange echoes in their minds. Unclear whispers repeated over and over, urging them to do something they couldn't understand. Late at night, both would wake up drenched in sweat, shivering, even though the weather was warm. The uneasiness grew, making it impossible to ignore.

After months apart, all six siblings finally gathered. In the heavy atmosphere, the eldest brother decided to share everything—the hidden basement, the terrifying scream, and the haunting visions.

The other siblings were stunned. The fourth child, known for their calm demeanor, raised a question:

"All of this started only after we moved here and became wealthy, didn't it? Maybe this isn't just a coincidence..."

The fifth child, a quick-witted and sharp girl, recalled hearing about a famous spiritualist. Without hesitation, she suggested:

"We should go see her. If anyone can figure this out, it's her."

The six siblings immediately set off to find the spiritualist. Her home was an old, weathered house deep in a shadowy alley. However, upon arrival, her apprentice informed them that the spiritualist was busy with an urgent matter and wouldn't return for another two weeks.

While waiting in the house's courtyard, they tried to remain calm. Suddenly, a man appeared from the distant path. He was dressed in tattered clothes, his face dirty, holding a bottle of wine. As he walked, he sang peculiar phrases.

"Witch... haha... witch..."

He laughed and swayed, his bloodshot eyes staring at them as if delivering a cryptic message.

The youngest sibling shivered:

"This man... there's something wrong with him. Why does he keep saying that word?"

The third child, the bravest among them, stepped forward and asked:

"Who are you? What do you know about... witches?"

The man only laughed louder, his voice echoing eerily:

"You'll know soon... all of you will know... the witch!"

Then he disappeared into the darkness, leaving behind a chilling silence.

When the spiritualist's apprentice informed them that she would be busy for two more weeks, the siblings had no choice but to return home. On their way back, the man's words kept replaying in their minds.

"Witch... Was he trying to warn us about something? Or were those just the ramblings of a madman?"

However, deep down, each of them felt that what they had experienced was no coincidence. They began to realize that their family's sudden wealth and the recent misfortunes were likely connected to a terrible secret.
