Twenty-Two: What He Needs
Norma stopped in front of the beautiful young girl. Her eyes noted that the girl's spectacular figure could not be hidden even in her modest, non-designer gown. The vivid blue color of her dress made her skin glow like porcelain, and she noted how much male attention the girl was receiving even though she was oblivious to it. A finger of jealousy crawled up Norma's neck. There was no way Seokjin hadn't fucked her. They were both young and wildly attractive, living in close proximity. He might even fancy himself in love with this little girl. That's why he had to come back to her and away from this little temptress.
"Hello, my dear," she said.
Anna looked up in surprise. She put her phone down and stared at the actress.
"M-Miss King?"
Norma grinned. "Yes. And you are...Seokjin's date."
"My name is Anna," the younger woman replied. "Anna Lane. It is a pleasure to meet you, Miss King. I am honored...in spite of the unacceptable way you treated Seokjin."
"I suppose there's a compliment in there," Norma said.
"Yes, there was," Anna replied. "I admire your work on the screen but not in real life."
"Straight to the point. I like it. It's so refreshing to know where one stands with another person, isn't it?" Norma asked but didn't wait for a reply. "So I will do you the same favor. I know that my dear Seokjin considers you a very good friend. He told me how kind you've been to him."
"He did?" Anna asked, again surprised. Jin still spoke to Norma?
"Of course, my dear. My little treasure tells me everything. He says you like looking at the stars at night. I guess wishing on something." She paused with a cold grin. "He's so grateful for your hospitality during these difficult times, but he won't be imposing on you any longer." She paused and stared into the younger woman's eyes. "You see, he's moving in with me."
Anna blinked a few times then inhaled. "Is he? I wasn't aware. What does your husband say?"
Norma's grin faded momentarily. This girl was not a pushover. "My soon-to-be ex-husband will have no say in the matter, so you needn't worry. Seokjin is at a point in his career where he needs someone to champion him, someone with the influence to advance his opportunities."
Anna's chin went up. "Well, I imagine since your husband is a big-time producer, Seokjin might be better off moving in with him, don't you think?"
Norma's grin disappeared altogether. "Aren't we clever?"
"Maybe one of us is."
"Miss...Lane, is it? What exactly do you do? Are you in the business?"
Anna let out a little laugh. "You must know very well I'm not. I'm a teacher, actually. Seokjin and I studied together before he was famously scouted getting off a bus. I encouraged him to give it a shot, and look what happened."
"But you've done all you can for him. A teacher, no matter how great a friend, cannot give him what he needs. Now he needs a more experienced guiding hand."
"Experienced hand is right," Anna muttered.
Norma didn't hear over the din of the chatter. "He needs me now. I'm glad he has your friendship, but he honestly cannot be hanging out with a teacher and living in a tiny apartment. He doesn't need to look up at stars. He is a star. He needs to be around those who will help his career." Her eyes became icy. "What he needs is what a woman like me can provide---both in public and in private."
Anna felt her throat seize up painfully. It always came down to sex. Norma's sexual experience had very easily won Seokjin over time and time again. "It is entirely up to him."
Norma's smile returned. "Oh, yes, my dear. It is entirely up to my little treasure." She looked Anna up and down. "Now, if you'll excuse me, I'll be leaving. I imagine you should be, too. There's a time limit to Cinderella moments, isn't there?" Without another word, she turned and walked away.
