Thirty-Two: Plans

Seokjin knocked once on the door then let himself in. Anna was at her makeup table laughing with Sally.

"Hey, Anna," he said as a greeting. He dropped himself down on the small couch in the trailer.

"Hi, Jin," she replied, then nodded at Sally as a sign of dismissal.

"Any plans for tonight?" he asked casually after the young girl had left. He fiddled with the cap on his head, trying to appear disinterested, but his eyes betrayed him as he stared longingly at her.

Anna put down her hair brush and turned to look at him. "It's nice to finish early, no? I see you're already dressed to go home. It's been such a hectic week. I was also thinking of just going straight home, but then Jimin invited me to try out his new favorite diner. He promised we wouldn't stay long."

"J-Jimin? Park Jimin?" Seokjin asked. Jimin was the young actor playing his brother in the movie. He remembered that the delicate-featured young man was so excited to meet Anna. He had caught Jimin staring at her during rehearsals. He felt his shoulders tense.

She laughed. "Of course. How many Jimins are working on the movie? We thought about inviting you, but he said you probably had plans with Norma. How is she, by the way?"

"Fine," he said through clenched teeth. "Norma and I are, uh, fine."

"Well, why don't you join us? You can bring Norma."

He sighed. "I don't think Norma King is a diner type of woman."

She smiled. "I guess not. Besides, she probably wouldn't want to hang around with me."

"Why would you say that?" he asked, concerned that talk had already gotten back to her about Norma's insane jealousy.

Anna shrugged. "I-I don't know. Last time we talked I got the impression that she didn't like me at all. And I did take her part in this movie."

Seokjin sprawled back on the couch. "Don't worry about that. It's not as if you personally had her fired. It was out of your control. Still, I don't think we'll be able to join you. And Jimin."

"All right." She stood up. "Anyway, I'll see you tomorrow. Then we're getting a blessed day off after that. Got any plans for that day?"

His frown disappeared thinking she was about to invite him out. "Well--"

"What am I saying?" she interrupted him. "Of course you probably have plans. Sam invited me out to his home for a beach party. He said a lot of the cast and crew will be there. Sort of sounds like fun, like a '60's beach movie or something. Are you going?"

"Sam? Carson?" Seokjin tried not to let his disappointment show. Samuel Carson, their director, had a well-known reputation for womanizing. He had no doubt what Sam Carson was really after. "Uh, no, probably not. But shouldn't you rest on your day off? I mean, being out in the sun can't be good for you?"

"He said if I got too tired or too hot, I could rest inside his house," she said as she moved around gathering up her things.

"I'm sure he did," he muttered, knowing exactly what Sam Carson's intentions were even if she did not. How could she not see it?

"Or I might just skip the beach party," she added. "Taehyung invited me to Catalina Island on one of his photo shoots."

"Oh," Seokjin frowned. Not this again. "Catalina. Sounds like a date."

Anna chuckled. "No, silly. He's taking photographs of some new resort out there, and he thought I'd like to check it out. They told him he could stay over in one of the suites."

He sat up. "You're...staying with him?"

"Of course not," she replied. "We have work the next day, remember?"

He pulled himself to his feet. "Well, it all sounds great. For you. I guess I'll get going. See you tomorrow. Don't let Jimin keep you out too late." He gave her a tight-lipped smile and hurried out of the trailer.
