Nineteen: Longing

Anna came home to an empty apartment. Seokjin must be out with friends or at auditions. She sank her body into the couch with relief. At least they didn't have to make awkward conversation about...The Kiss. She'd been thinking of nothing else except that kiss that Jin had given her. She wanted to believe that it meant more than a drunken impulse, but it probably didn't. He'd been drinking, and he was upset about Norma or whatever. She shouldn't read any more into it than what it was: an accident.

Her phone buzzed, and she stared at it before answering. "Hi!" It was Taehyung. He wanted to know if she wanted to go over to see a movie with him. He had popcorn, candy, and sodas ready. "Of course," she replied. "Give me fifteen minutes."

She spent the next four hours at Tae's apartment, eating and laughing and having a good time. Most importantly, she was no longer thinking about The Kiss. By the time the movie was over and they'd finished all the food, it was after nine o'clock. She had to work the next day and bid a fond goodbye to her friend.

He offered to walk her the few yards to her front door, and they arrived just as Jin came up the stairs.

Seokjin stood by the front door, his eyes staring at Anna without blinking.

"Hi," she said self-consciously.

"Hello again," Taehyung said with a smile. "Mr. Kim Seokjin, right? I'm sorry I didn't realize that you're the actor Kim Seokjin. My sister loved Dream Lovers, by the way. She said you were excellent in it. I haven't seen it yet, but I will. I'm a Norma King fan."

"Yeah. Who isn't?" Seokjin snapped.

Anna turned to Taehyung. "Well, thanks for walking me home, Tae. I guess I'll see you again soon. Just give me a call."

"Sure. I had a great time." Taehyung glanced at Jin before giving Anna a quick peck on the cheek. "Good night."

He had already walked into his apartment, but Jin and Anna were still standing outside their own door.

"Did you forget your key?" she asked.

Jin made a sound and unlocked the door, waiting until she went in first. He walked after her and let the door slam. "You were with him this whole time?"

She went into the kitchen and came back with a bottle of water. "Uh-huh."

"And?"

She took a sip of water and sat at the table. "And what?" She noticed that he seemed angry.

"Are you dating him?" he asked, standing over her.

Anna looked up at him. He was angry, but why? "No, I'm not dating him although I don't see why that should matter to you."

"Maybe it does." His tone was belligerent, like a child's.

She exhaled, got to her feet, and pushed past him. "You're being weird. I'm going to bed."

He grabbed her arm above the elbow as she tried to walk by. "Wait."

"Jin!" She whirled around. "Let go of me. What is wrong with you?" She pulled her arm away. "Why are you acting this way?"

He put both his hands up to indicate that he wouldn't try to touch her again. "I'm sorry. I just...well, I just don't think you should go out with that guy anymore. I don't trust him."

Her jaw dropped. "What? You don't even know him. Tae is a nice guy. He's my friend, and he's never been disrespectful to me in any way. Not like---" She pressed her lips together.

Seokjin stared at her. "Not like me?"

"I wasn't going to say that." She sighed. "Look. Let's not have this conversation right now. I'm not sure what's going on with you, but you're in a strange mood. You were rude to Tae, and now you're bordering on being rude to me. We should just go to bed."

He gave her a longing gaze, his mind racing with possibilities. He hoped she would read his emotions in his eyes.

She gasped when she realized how it sounded. "I didn't mean go to bed like that."

"I haven't been drinking," he said suddenly.

Anna's brow furrowed in confusion at his words. "Jin, I'm really tired, and I'm not sure I understand anything you're saying. I have a few things to do before I can go to sleep, so we can talk tomorrow, okay?" She nodded at him and went into her room.

He stood and stared at her door for a few minutes. She was his friend, but he didn't want to be friends. He wanted more. He knew he wanted more.
