Eighteen: Disruption
The next day at work, Anna was terribly distracted. She'd given the wrong lesson to her first class, and she'd forgotten to make copies of an assignment for another class. Now she sat staring at her lunch without eating.
Hoseok cleared his throat. "Anna? You okay? You look out of sorts."
She shrugged. "I...I'm okay."
"Well, you don't look okay. You're pale, and your eyes look tired and watery. Are you feeling sick? Maybe you should go home."
She looked into her friend's worried face. "No. Home is the last place I should be right now."
He raised an eyebrow. "Huh? You're sure you're not sick? Yoongi's out with a bad cold. Maybe you're catching it, too."
"No." She sighed. "It's not a cold. I just...I didn't get any sleep last night."
"Oh, God. Don't tell me Seokjin snuck into your bed."
"Hobi, no!" she exclaimed, scowling at him. "Why...would you say that?"
He exhaled. "Anna, I've seen the way he looks at you. I've told you before. He's definitely interested, but you should be careful."
"I know I should be careful. He...kissed me."
Hoseok's eyebrows shot up. "You see! I told you."
She shook her head. "I don't know if he's really interested. He was drinking. And he admitted that he's nervous about the awards show and seeing Norma King again."
"So, he kissed you? Why was that a reason to kiss you?"
Anna shrugged. "I don't really know. I think he was just not thinking straight."
"Or thinking with his brain," her friend added. "Are you sure you're safe with him?"
"Of course I am." She shot him a look. "He's my oldest friend. He'd never hurt me."
"Not sober he wouldn't. You said he was drunk."
She sighed. "I said he'd been drinking."
Hoseok stared at her for a while. "Anna, you're just making excuses for him. If he was drinking, and he made a pass at you, I think you should be concerned." He looked down at his lunch. "You don't have to take my advice, but hear me out. If he went all out with that kiss, then you need to make him explain himself before things get out of control. But if he just gave you a quick kiss, then apologized, maybe he did just lose his head for a moment. Then it's okay."
She wouldn't meet his gaze because she knew it was more than a quick kiss.
"That look tells me that it was not quite an innocent kiss. Oh, boy." He shook his head and took a spoonful of his food.
"He apologized."
"Mm-hm." He finished chewing his food. "But it's still bothering you. I'd say Mr. Kim Seokjin will keep disrupting your life if you don't lay down some ground rules, starting with no boom boom."
"Shh," she hissed at him, glancing around the faculty lounge. She ignored his grin, but she knew he was right. She'd let too many things slide, and she didn't want Jin to think that she was an available bed buddy. Not when his heart belonged to another woman. Hoseok was right. They had to reestablish the boundaries of their friendship before things got out of control.
