May 13,

This day will always hold a special sheen,

Not the day I was born,

But the day I was reborn.

Two years ago exactly,

Scared and hesitantly,

I took the step the most important

Up to present.

Clicking on the orange rectangle

Like a gamble,

I chose

To turn my life around and see where it goes.

At the time, I didn't realize

What was the prize.

I had just started to grow and learned

With a shy nerd,

Dropping my armor

For a boy named Alex Carter,

And discovering

The thrill and the peace of writing.

I hadn't met a sinful

Futuristic couple,

Who would teach me

To fight and put myself first slowly.

I had yet to know sparkles

And a devious dimple

To learn to ease up on lists

(I'm still working on this!)

Most importantly,

I didn't think it would save me

When I couldn't breathe,

Stuck in darkness with all doors sealed.

No window has opened yet,

But through the cracks and nets,

Have passed rays of sunshine

With a light almost divine.

It didn't happen overnight,

Like the words I write.

But you gave me a reason to keep up,

To get up

Every morning.

Looking forward to the red dots, dings,

And messages

That bring a spark behind my glasses,

A smile on my face,

Warmth in my chest, light in my days.

And today, that's my reason to celebrate

This date,

Honor these two years aloud

And everyone I've found:

Precious friends, sisters in heart,

Even if we're apart,

Family and inspirations,

All these connections,

Inexplicable,

But full of love and unbreakable.

Myself lastly.

So Happy Birthday to the new me.
