Chapter Seven: Thank God

♢♡Jonathan♡♢

"Brock! Brock! Have you seen Evan?!" I gasp as I shove through the crowd, grabbing Brock's shoulders as Brian looks between us. "I-I thought he was with you!" Brock stammers out, so I shoulder him out of the way and look around the sea of people. You think being tall would help in situations like this!

I look back and forth, I don't even know the guy but he isn't here and that isn't okay! He's just so cute and nervous but I- fuck! I jump on top of a staircase to address the crowd. "IS ANY FAMILY MISSING?!" I shout. Everyone looks at each other but no one raises their hand. "HAS ANYONE SEEN EVAN?!"

No one raises their hand.

"Fuck." I mutter, jumping down. I grip my knife and start heading towards Tyler. "Ty, Craig, do you know anywhere else we can go to hide?" I ask, noticing how shaken up a very bloody Craig is. "Uh, the mall, maybe? The parking lot already has a fence a-and the glass is all bullet proof" Tyler spits out, trying to calm Craig down at the same time.

"Craig, dude, are you okay?" I ask, patting his shoulder. Craig flinches and nods, pressing himself against Tyler. "W-Worried about Ev-van. Th-That and I-I was almost b-bit" Craig stutters, clinging onto Tyler's shirt. "Well, I'm sure Evan is fine. He has a gun, right? He'll find us, and we'll find him. It'll be fine" I smile, and Craig nods a little.

I sigh and head towards the front of the group, waving my arms for a moment before shouting. "ALRIGHT EVERYONE! WE'RE GOING TO HEAD TOWARDS THE MALL AND SET UP THERE! WEAK AND CHILDREN IN THE MIDDLE PLEASE!" I instruct, walking backwards. The group quickly shifts into that exact formation.

Someone who was infected lied and came in. They spread the virus and we had to evacuate. We moved five blocks away before settling and regrouping to get away from the walkers, no one has been bit so far. Just, so many people are scared. We'll have to go slow if we're going to stay in the group, I don't want a single person left behind.

I'm just really worried about Evan.

♢♡Time Skip♡♢

Honestly, these people would never survive in the army. To be fair, we have a lot of children and we had to keep them in the middle. There was one point where we had to turn around because we had ran into a horde of walkers. The entire time I was thinking where Evan was, if he's okay.

"Hold up!" The entire group comes to halt when two stranger's stand in the middle of the road. "Is anyone here called Tyler? Craig? Jon?" The short one asks, slowly lowering a crossbow. Tyler drags Craig to the front, nodding rapidly. The tall ones hand reaches for a gun on his belt.

"Anyone in this group infected?" He asks in an accent. "David?!" Brian yelps behind me. "I'm going to take that as a no" He grins as Brian runs forwards and hugs him. 'David' chuckles and pats Brian's back before pushing him back a step. They talk in hushed tones as the shorter rolls his eyes and waves for our attention.

"We have a safe zone! It's big enough for everyone! If you're infected, tell us, we have an area where we can treat you! If you're not infected, stay in line!" He demands before turning around and marching off. I chase after him, walking next to him. "I'm Jon, who are you?" I ask in a rush, it feels like my tongue is burning.

"Lui. I'm a runner for a group of people" He says, loading his crossbow with one hand. "I'm not going to hurt you, plus I know that trick. I was in the army too" I scoff, pulling out my seals knife and showing it to him. "Respect" Lui giggles, stuffing his free hand in his pocket. "Who told you our names?" I ask, praying it was Evan.

"This guy we found. Was real freaked out, wouldn't stop rambling. I picked out the names he said the most and yeah" Lui shrugs, licking his lips. "Did you get his name?" I gulp, praying he did. "Uh, yeah. I think it was Evan? He was stuttering to much to really tell" Lui hums, turning down the street. Thank fucking god.
