◌ Thirty Eight ◌
It instantly became chaotic the second Ryan hit the floor.
"Shoot!" Brendon yelled, rushing down the stairs. "It's his PTSD again!"
"His what?" Bob asked. Bob was the only one who hadn't heard of Ryan's condition yet. Everyone else already witnessed it happen.
"He has milk PTSD. The effects of it are different every time. Sometimes he cries uncontrollably, other times he screams. Sometimes he tries to run away, other times he faints. Now quick, there is no time to lose! Grab me a bowl of cool water and a towel!" Brendon commanded.
Zero time was wasted. Everyone rushed around trying to help out and bring things to Ryan and Brendon. Ryan was still out cold and on top of that, Helena was still crying. Joe was rocking her to sleep on the couch near Ryan's body and looking visibly stressed out.
"Here's the towel." Patrick said, handing Brendon a clean hand towel. "Sorry it's a little big."
"That's fine." Brendon murmured as he grabbed the towel. He dunked it in the water and placed the towel over Ryan's forehead. Unfortunately the towel was too big and it covered Ryan's eyes. If Brendon was the one who had passed out, the towel would have fit just right on his giant forehead. He was not in his right mind.
Over on the couch, Joe sat with the baby. He was sweating up a storm.
"Joe why are you so nervous?" Dallon asked.
"I'm not good with kids!" he exclaimed.
"I'll take her." Andy said as he sat down next to Joe. "Go relax and cool off. I think Brendon's all set with assistance."
Joe nodded and went outside to take a few deep breaths.
Suddenly Ryan screamed. "I'VE GONE BLIND!"
"He came to! He came to! He's back with us!" Brendon said excitedly. He glanced at the towel covering Ryan's eyes. "It's okay baby it's just a towel on your eyes. Shhh you're okay." He removed the towel and propped Ryan's head on his lap and smiling down at him. He was pretty sure that he did not follow proper steps to help Ryan when he passed out but whatever he did worked. Ryan gave Brendon a weak smile back.
"Did I faint again?" Ryan asked, his voice hoarse.
"Yes but you're okay now. Everything is going to be fine." Brendon whispered.
"Um guys?" Patrick asked. "I'm sorry to cut that short but um... I think Helena's diaper needs to be changed..."
"Not again..." Andy groaned.
"Oh come on, Andy! You weren't even one of the people who changed her diaper last time!" Joe called out, remembering when he, Ryan, Brendon , and Mikey had to change it.
"Yeah!" Brendon chimed in. "I think the four of us shouldn't have to do it this time."
"Fine. Deal. I'll do it." Patrick offered, knowing he would regret this later.
"I will help also. As long as Andy helps too." Ray said, smirking at Andy.
Andy rolled his eyes "Fine."
"I'll help too." Bob offered.
The four of them gathered around the changing table. Actually, it wasn't really a changing table. Their old, makeshift table was being used for a new purpose this time so Ray stepped up to the plate. Andy covered his back with a towel as Patrick got down on his hands and knees. Helena was placed atop the towel on Ray and they changed her like that. Bob did his best to soothe Helena and remove of her old diaper. Frank was asleep and unable to give anybody clothespins, although it was not nearly as bad as the first time.
"Ray! Stop arching your back! The table isn't even!" Andy said.
"Sorry!" Ray said annoyed before fixing his position.
"Ray! You're doing it again!" Bob yelled out.
"Helena is sliding down your back, you know!" Andy snapped.
"Ah, sorry!"
"Ray! Stop that! You're doing it again!" Patrick said, exhausted.
It went on like this for another twelve minutes. Finally Helena was changed and they put her back into her sleeper before laying her down in her crib. That didn't stop her from whining.
"Pacify her!" Brendon yelled out, getting annoyed. "She's getting on my nerves. She'll wake everyone else up."
"Ew." Ryan said. "That just has... bad vibes whatever you just said."
Somebody grabbed her pacifier and placed it in Helena's mouth. It quickly got her to stop crying and minutes later she was fast asleep. Eventually the guys made their way back to their bedrooms and tried to get back to sleep.

8:00 A.M.

After her diaper was changed, Helena miraculously managed to fall asleep. She didn't wake up until around 7:45 when she was hungry for some food. That problem was solved pretty quickly and now it was up to the guys to make their own breakfast out of the few food remains they had left.
Gerard had been nervous the night before that he wouldn't make it to sleep. Not only because of Helena but because of Bob, who roomed with Gerard last night. Bob was originally going to sleep on the couch but everyone was little nervous that Bob might try to sabotage them and wake up Helena or kidnap her or something. Whatever it was, they didn't want to risk it so he offered to take Bob. Although Gerard found out later on that Bob snuck back down to help watch Helena with Dallon and Mikey. Last night Bob was not annoying at all and didn't bother Gerard. Well except for the one time he asked where the bathrooms were. Other than that he was fine. He slept on the floor with a few blankets and pillow.
Breakfast consisted of a few coconut pieces and coconut milk or water. That's how low on food they were. Some people resorted to eat Helena's baby food but the majority were too disgusted to even open the jars. Gerard enjoyed a nice meal of Ham and Ham Gravy while Brendon had some Prune baby food. Ray had some Rice and Lentil Dinner.
Dallon brought over his coconut chunks on his plate next to Mikey. "Hey Mikey!"
"Hey Dallon. We need to have a rematch on that last game of Connect Four. There's a good chance I let you win..."
"No you did not!" Dallon yelled. "I won fair and square. Plus, you can't just let someone win!"
"Yes you can! I gave up a perfect spot to let you win!" Mikey said laughing.
When the two of them were assigned to watch Helena overnight, they first started the night talking. The two realized they had a lot more in common than they thought. They shared an interest in music, movies, books, and even politics. They talked quietly in the dark living room for hours. At around 2:00 A.M Dallon suggested they play Connect Four together. They played until they both accidentally fell asleep next to Helena.
Mikey stopped laughing and got serious for a few moments. "Hey I had a lot of fun with you last night. Thanks for making such a dreaded task so fun."
"You too Mikey. We can play Connect Four again soon."
At the breakfast table the group discussed what they should do with Helena after they finished eating. "Guys we only have a few more hours with her. She leaves at 11:30." Pete said.
"Don't remind me. I'm going to miss her so much." Mikey said, his eyes watering. Dallon patted him on the back and gave him a hug.
"She hasn't left the house much. Or at all, really. We should bring her outside- let her see the water." Pete said.
"Good idea Pete." Gerard said. "And she can play in the sand too."
Helena was on the floor near Joe and Mikey's seats, scooting around on her butt. She couldn't move very far but she seemed to be slowly inching toward Ray. Her yellow sundress was hiking up on her so Ray scooped her up and readjusted it before setting her back down on the floor.
"Alright so all of us should go and get changed, maybe shower for those of us who haven't yet and then we can go outside with Helena." Frank said. "Let's all meet here by 8:30. A half hour sounds good, right?"
Ryan hurried up to his room and locked his door before changing. After he finished he planned on going downstairs to discuss coffee mugs with Ray (they had a large debate yesterday) but he realized he needed to check in with Brendon first.
After rapping on Brendon's door Ryan entered the room and stared at the floor. "Hey Bren. You said we could talk today, right?"
"Oh uh, yeah Ryan. Let's just do it after we take Helena outside."
"Yeah that's what I meant. I mean, I didn't want to talk now, I wanted us to talk after that. Or when she leaves. Um, either works for me." He quickly stopped talking, realizing he only made things more awkward.
"Okay then, sounds good."
"Bye." Ryan said before rushing out of Brendon's room and back to his own to hide in shame.

Outside

"Brendon, Helena can't swim she's a baby." Gerard screamed in fear.
"Wait I thought all babies were born knowing how to swim." Brendon yelled from the ocean. "It's an instinct!"
Gerard would have face palmed had there been time. He was too busy running to save Helena who was rapidly drowning.
"No Brendon! That's a myth! Now save her, she's going to die!"
