Warning:May have some Undertale spoilers.I also wrote this while listening to Salt-N-Pepa so this may be weird.

I don't get why this ship is so controversial.Some people love it,and others hate it with a burning passion.Like,it's a goat lady and small skeleton from a video game,we need to calm down.But you know,fandoms,because HOW DARE YOU WANT TWO CHARACTERS TO GET TOGETHER WHEN I DON'T WANT THEM TO,JEESUS.I'm honestly okay with this,but let's get into the Soriel.

As most of you know,Soriel is a ship between Sans and Toriel from the game Undertale.Why do people ship it?A mixture of headcanon and canon.Sans mentions telling jokes to a lady behind a door,and at the end of the pacifist route it's confirmed that that lady was Toriel.If you check around Toriel's house,you can find Toriel's diary,filled with jokes.Obviously she puts effort into these conversations.The fact that they had never seen eachother and established such a connection is definitely something.

Another thing is when you hang out with Sans,he tells you that the lady behind the door suddenly told him to mercy any human that comes by.And that if she hadn't told him that then,well,you'd be dead where you stand.He does claim that he's joking,but I'm sure he was telling the truth.Think about that.He made a promise to someone he doesn't know,against something he doesn't want to do.They obviously have a strong connection.

We find out that Toriel has divorced the king,Asgore,after he killed multiple humans.Most likely,he's not getting a second chance.Now that Toriel and Sans know eachother in person,they can strengthen their relationship even farther.Many fans see Sans as a brotherly,fatherly,uncle type to Frisk.And since Toriel's most likely adopting Frisk,their relationship would make sense.Overall the ship is very cute,I mean,have you seen the art.

Okay,time to get into the negatives.As I said,Sans and Toriel barely know eachother and when you think about,don't have much in common.Literally just jokes.Sure,they know about eachother's lives,but they don't have many established interests.Some anti shippers say that they just see them as cute friends and have a purely platonic relationship and are tired of all the Soriel junk,which makes sense.I personally don't think Sans would want to be in a relationship,given his lazy nature.Toriel may not want to get into a commited relationship either,possibly scared of another breakup,and probably too old to do much (Yes,I called goat mama old,fight me.)Who knows,maybe Toriel will eventually forgive Asgore and raise Frisk.I can totally see Toriel and Sans as platonic friends.

In conclusion,Soriel is possible,has alot of proof,but most of their relationship is fanmade or headcanon.I honestly can't see how you can hate this ship,but I can see how it's annoying.
